This bike is for sale on ebay and has hardly turned a wheel if the seller is to be believed.
I don't own a Wisper but recently there has been a number of new members of the forum asking which bike to buy and I don't think anyone should disregard Wisper machines, especially if there's a saving involved.

These are well-regarded bikes and the support provided by the company is exceptionally good as can be witnessed from many previous posts in this forum. So, anyone vacillating over which budget/medium price range bike might wish to consider this machine if it can be had for somewhere close to the starting bid price.

Nice, but!
With the 'off road' button fitted, it could be a couple or three years old, so I wonder what state the battery is in if its only done less than 20 miles in total and not been charged for since! Nice bike though.

That's a fair point Eaglerider but the longer I have my ebike, the more I'm inclined to think two to three years isn't all that much on good quality batteries.

My battery dates back to 2007 and still carries me over 20 miles using a mix of low/high power and no power at all when I can manage. I'm sure others can attest to battery performance lasting much longer than a couple of years but yes, I agree that it's probably the major consideration when purchasing a second-hand bike as most other parts can be sourced fairly cheaply.

I'd probably bid for that one except I got myself a second ebike just a few weeks ago and my other half would probably be a smidgin annoyed if I added another bike to the collection around the shed, the house and the garden! I think a clearance of some stock would be in my interest.

Absolutely. I hope to make my battery last for years and years by excessive mollycoddling, and regular stroking!!

My concerns would be around a bike that has done only 15 miles over say two years, has not been owned by an enthusiast, and as such has likely been left unattended. I don't think even a Wisper battery would survive 2 years without a charge.

instinctively I did not like the add, no real info just cut and past brochure stuff...I would stay clear of this one. if interested ask for serial number and David of Wisper will check it for you...If you don't get the serial number you know you were right to ask!

Indalo,
What size is the battery you refer to please
5 years seems very good!
8Ah Mike as fitted to early model Panasonic crank drives on Gazelle Easygliders. It's still showing 4 lights, (80%) on the press and hold test. After a couple of deep discharge/recharge cycles when I first got the bike, I have just used it and charged it ever since. Sometimes I'm down to 1 lamp after 15 miles over hills with headwinds; sometimes 4 lights remaining on 4 or 5 miles. I can't complain.

Panasonic's lithium batteries on their units have always performed extremely well, in part due to the sophisticated software control of the current demands, in part due to the drive through the gears maintaining optimum efficiency. Both assist in giving long battery life. It wouldn't be possible to mimic this type of control for a hub motor's battery in any area with hills, since the motor subjects the battery to intermittent high demands when speeds drop on climbs.
