  1. Thanks Nealh. I feel I have a long day ahead...
  2. I'm attaching a Bafang 8FUN to a SCOTT Aspect 29er. The motor slides in OK, until it hits the middle ridge. I need to take less than 1mm from the inside of the bracket (see pic attached). I've tried grease and the ol' rubber mallet, but alas to no avail. My question is: How much would/have you taken off to fit a Bafang motor? Thanks in advance.
  3. May I ask about your Voodoo build? Im looking at getting a Voodoo Aizan 29er for the missus and it looks like the same frame as your Hoodoo. Did you encounter any prob when fitting your motor? Also, how is the chainline? I'm using a BBO1.
  4. Thanks for the info cannon. I've been trying to get dimensions from Halfords, but they're about as welcoming as a fart in a spacesuit. Gawd knows how they manage to sell any bikes in this plandemic! If anyone else knows stuff, please post!
  5. I posted a thread a while ago as to how I built up a bike using an 8FUN Bafang motor. https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/convert-a-kona-cinder-cone-to-an-electric-bike-please-help.19901/page-5 Alas, the Missus wants to ride off road now and I was wondering if anyone had fitted an 8FUN to one of these? https://www.halfords.com/bikes/mountain-bikes/voodoo-aizan-29er-mountain-bike---16in-18in-20in-frames-445307.html Thanks in advance!
  6. Yes, thanks Neil and thanks to Michael for help with the motor also. I wouldn't rate the Eastway as a good bike for conversion though, as it is pretty skittish in its original form, never mind fitting a motor to it! The tyres have been changed to something a bit wider to soak up potholes and the SRAM X5 rear mech is now in the bin. It didn't work properly before the Bafang was fitted, and it sure as hell didn't want to play when the motor was fitted! It crunched into gear with a vengeance, and slipped and jumped around all over the shop. Then it got a slight knock and only worked in five of the ten sprockets available (which is understandable). Alas, it's at the lower end of the SRAM range, but it's now history on this bike! I can see why rear suspension is best for a pedelec now, or maybe I'll get a suspension post for future use!
  7. OK, it's been a while since I started this thread, but I managed to get the missus on the bike and both handled Alpe d'Huez with ease! The battery had only used one bar by the time She had reached the top. I was quite taken aback by the amount of electric bikes I saw in the mountains in France and the 46 chainring was perfect for the Alps. I must admit, 'twas funny seeing the missus speeding past all these club riders with ease (me included!) There was a lot of MTB's with Bosch motors attached and there seemed to be a lot of interest in electric bikes at the Decathlons that we visited throughout France on our travels. It's a matter of time before they are the norm... The only issue I had, is the Bafang brake sensors are utter PANTS!!! They keep failing and I have to send them back. They keep sending me new sensors, but when I get time I'll try the original Bafang levers with the sensors enclosed as a part of the unit. Anyhow, I would like to thank all whom helped me on this forum, but especially Nealh and mfj197 for their help getting mobile! Thanks again all! Much appreciated!!!
  8. Took a trip to Evans and picked up a 42 chainring, bolts and spacers. Got home and had a go at fitting to bike. Even with mounting the chainring on the inside of the bracket (with no spacers attached) it was actually further from the frame than before! Back to Evans to get my money back and the 46 wins I'm hoping the chain will bed in and run a bit smoother in the lower gears. Like, yeah?
  9. Hi Michael, The chainline is on quite a bit of an angle from the 46 to the 28. Hence, I'm trying to limit it. The rear derailleur isn't aligning properly, and I think that moving the front 46 towards the frame may help. If all else fails; it's the 46!
  10. Hmmm, possibly... I'll give it a bash. I'll let you know, thanks!
  11. Actually... I've just tried to fit the bracket and it seems the chainring bolts hit the motor! It throws the chainline so far out of sync with the rear mech, that it only works on the top three gears on the rear sprockets. As you can see by the pictures, even if I mount the chainring bolts on the inside of the bracket (which is not the correct way) there is still not enough room as the bolt would hit the motor. Any ideas?
  12. Ha! I took the bike for a wee hill climb the other day, and I was surprised at how well it climbed on the 46 ring. Does anyone want to buy a Bafang 130 BCD Chain Ring adapter - brand new and unused? Sensible offers please!
  13. Bloody 'ell Dave! Have a bit of finesse will you?
  14. Sorry for the late reply (too busy!) but you pointed me in the direction of buying one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131539008608?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I've not had a chance to put it on the bike yet and I'm sticking a 39 tooth ring on it. I'll let you know the outcome. Thanks again everyone!
  15. Hi, Has anyone got a 44 tooth Bafang 8fun chainring knocking about (new would be nice) as the missus needs it for our holiday. I can Paypal the seller immediately I've left it a bit late (as usual!) Thanks in advance! Scott
  16. Hi Neal, Thanks for the info, but the grease worked! Speak later, mega busy!!! Thanks all!
  17. Thanks, but I don't have a dremel, but I'll try the grease option. Back online in 10 mins...
  18. OK, been a long time without posting (sorry - been sooooooo busy!) but I've finally got a BBS01 for the Eastway. I've removed the BB on the bike, but I've encountered a problem whilst trying to fit the 8FUN. It will go so far in, but seems to stop when it hits the opposite side thread I tried it from the other side (yes, I know it only goes one way) and again, it stops when it hits the far-side thread. The cable guide underneath the frame has been filed down and the 8FUN doesn't touch it. There are no burs, or bumpy bits inside the BB shell (see pics attached). Any ideas? edit: it originally had a 68mm shell in it.
  19. Does anyone know the best place for a cheap battery for the BBS01?
  20. Thanks for the info Michael. Keep me posted, and Good Luck!
  21. Thanks Michael. I'm probably going to get the 350w motor. Have you built that bike yet??? If Nealh is reading this, then my apologies for not getting over to his house and seeing his bike. I'm just flat out with work at the moment. Not enough hours in the day...
