Are e-bikes with an off-road switch legal to ride on UK roads under 15.5mph?
In a good way? You mean with a pedestrian? I wont be on any pavements etc so hopefully unlikely. With a car Id like to think the default wasn't that it was my fault, im still slower and bit more fragile that them lol

So ive been thinking about this a lot too and morality/legality aside I have a few questions: Someone cant tell the wattage of a motor just by looking at it right? Are we saying the police would have to take it apart to tell? Even 250w ebikes have to be restricted so a restriction on a more powerful motor doesn't seem like a big deal, what the law "seems" to say is that its not an easy process to de-restrict any ebike. Is the policeman really going to count how many clicks it takes on the lcd? Im just getting my head around the power rating issue and "nominal" ratings - ie a 250w can put out more than that at depending on the load required and voltage x amps from the battery? IE motor size is a bit blurry anyway? Honestly I have no desire to break the law but at the same time my takeaway from multiple posts here seems to be, dont ride like an idiot, stay off pavements and dont weave in and out of traffic at 30mph and you should be ok. Disclaimer: im talking myself into a 500w bike I really like the look of

Ebay seller ' Electric Bike Conversions ' seem to be doing well :)
Seems bit low, what size is the battery? Conflicting reports worrying, responded fast to my sales inquiry though. Still thinking about their main 500w bike but £730 is a lot to send to an "unknown" company

Has anyone bought one of their full bikes yet? Im taking a serious look at their 500w mountain bike http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dynamic-MTX650-Superior-500w-Superfast-New-Electric-Mountain-Bike-/111807692662?hash=item1a0841ff76:g:2OAAAOSw9N1Vu5xh Looks like good value, decent size battery too.

250w vs 500w
Cool, thanks for the recommendation! Did you need to buy the lcd/Led monitor to de-restrict it?

250w vs 500w
Id say around £700 total I see cyclotricity do a 250 kit for around £200, wonder if it can be de-restricted? I know they do it for their 500 duel.

250w vs 500w
hmm wasnt aware I needed to be looking at torque, what should I be looking for? (not all items list it). Is it a big deal?

250w vs 500w
oh right, was just posting 1000w as example - im only going for 250w (or maybe 500) . Think id be in a ditch within a week on a 1000w lol

250w vs 500w
Haven't bought a battery yet, but standard 36v - 10ah should do the job?

250w vs 500w
Yes I think ill be getting a DD. The bpm 250 looks out of my price range tbh. Was looking at this on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/26-Ebike-Cycling-Electric-Bicycle-Conversion-Kit-250W-36V-Hub-Motor-Front-Wheel-/400504711080?hash=item5d3ff0e7a8:g:YxUAAOSwd4tT8c3i . Good price at £130 but says max speed is 25 km/h - doesn't mention if its limited or that really is max (there is no LCD comp). C

250w vs 500w
Was thinking that myself, there are 1000w FWD kits on ebay, surely the front wheel will be mostly spinning on the ground with that kind of power?

250w vs 500w
Was originally thinking about a cyclotricity but they have a wait time till after xmas. Now im thinking a front wheel drive kit off ebay (cant face RWD complexity) / 10ah bottle battery / and cheap(ish) mountain bike from halfords. Looking at around £500 so far which seems like a bargain, or too good to be true lol!

250w vs 500w
Hi, ebike newbie here and legalities aside im torn beside a 250w and 500w motor. Originally the 500 appealed for the extra speed/power but as I was driving the car at 20 yesterday I thought "I really dont need to be doing any more than 20mph on a bicycle", ill be using it for a 16 mile round trip to work. So my question is how hard is it to get an ebike from 15mph to 20mph, given flat ground and reasonably fit rider? I ask because I read on another post here that going from 15 to 20 is not same as 0mph to 5mph, wind resistance etc? Any advice appreciated. Thanks C
