  1. I've had a look. One of the small wires from the charger port does look a little chewed up. I've got a friend who's an electrical engineer who's promised to come over tomorrow afternoon and have a look. I think I've got *just* enough juice to get to work tomorrow. Failing that, have a prayer for me riding shank's pony until I can get it sorted. Thanks for the help!
  2. Thanks, PH001. I don't have a DC voltmeter, but it was also my husband's best guess that I nipped a wire when I popped the case back together. We'll open it up and have a look later. If it is the BMS, I don't think I have the courage to attempt it on my own. We'll see.
  3. I plugged my battery into the charger, the light went straight to green and no charging happened. Zo! Is it the charger, or the battery? If it's the battery, can anybody recommend a refurber? (I looked for a stickied thread on the topic and couldn't find). If it matters: 30 month old Freego. Ridden five days every week, a total of about 13 miles a week. Charged every Sunday. Performance has been fine, nothing unusual lately...except the battery case popped open about a week ago and I snapped it shut again. Thanks for any insights! I tried riding in under my own steam today and I didn't like it. I didn't like it at all.
  4. I got that down fairly early on. Last time I failed, it was for -- I swear I'm not making this up -- being "insufficiently aggressive going into a roundabout."
  5. Actually, 1.3. I walked in but I made my husband pick me up afterwards. And it's unintentional, believe me. I'm an immigrant and I cannot for the life of me pass your flipping practical driving exam, even after forty years of driving and a spotless record.
  6. That is brilliant. You've given me an awful lot to think about...
  7. That's fascinating, Si. Thanks for taking the time to explain. I look forward to following your work. I don't suppose there are videos of you riding that triangular thingie...? It looks decidedly like something the coyote would order from Acme.
  8. I have a massive 2.6 mile daily commute. Yes, yes...I know I could walk that. I did for 18 months. Tiresome in the rainy season. Anyway, welcome. You'll definitely find what you seek in the techy threads.
  9. Oh, man, I am completely captured by the idea of 3D printing. I used to do 3D modeling back in the day and I keep promising myself I'll take time and refresh my skills. I still don't understand how you 3D print metal components (I assume they're metal) that are structurally strong enough to do real work. How much of the 3D work are you doing yourself?
  10. When I were a lass, kids' bikes were always fixies in the States. And I have the knee scars to prove it. I admit, I shuddered a bit when I read your first message (I misinterpreted it to mean a fixie, too). I didn't know there was such a thing as a onesie, though! That's probably for me, for my next bike. I'm way too stupid for gears.
  11. I ordered mine a week before Christmas. It arrived, I put it together...somehow, they left the pedals out of the box! To the seller's credit, they drove a pair out to me that day. After dark. And there was a huge storm next day. I, too, know the feels.
  12. You've got five levels of assistance? The Eagle and the Regency are not the same, then. I only have three. The battery meter will plummet when it's under load; on mine, even a freshly charged battery will drop to one or two bars going up a steep hill. It rebounds on the level to a more accurate measurement. And -- I don't know if it's true, but I'm sure someone here will correct me if it isn't -- the dealer told me either use the throttle or the pedals, but not both at once. Also, never use the throttle from a dead stop, especially not on a hill. It's just too much on the motor.
  13. Amazon sez: 5,449 results for "bicycle smartphone holder"
  14. E-bikes direct! That's over my way! Wasn't there a dealer closer to you? Oh, and welcome...
  15. Cooper replied to Rozovy's topic in Introduce Yourself!
Hi Rozovy. I have the Freego Regency, which I think is just an Eagle with a poncey paint job. Been commuting for just over a month and very happy with it -- though with a 3-mile round trip, my demands are not heavy. I won't weigh in on your other thread as I have no idea what I'm talking about, but I'll be interested to hear how your first service goes. I can't really get back to my dealership for the courtesy service, so I'd like to know what kind of problems turn up for you.
  16. Holy cow, that's the most masculine two-wheeler I've ever seen! It looks like it's welded together with scaffolding pipes and testosterone. Toggle switches: nice touch. Is the OD green original, or did you just decide it needed to look just a touch more milsurp?
  17. Well, look at that. Will it be street legal?
  18. I was at an airshow in Quonset, Rhode Island once, talking on the phone, and I felt this peculiar rumble in my bones, looked up...and a B2 bomber purred over my head. Holy cow, I didn't know they were silent to human ears as well as radar! That bike is one weird mama-jama.
  19. Don't delay too long. It's not good for the battery to go flat and stay flat, assuming the battery is still okay. I'm with Wicky, I'd be pretty nervous about a bike of unknown provenance that came incomplete. Don't know if it's true, but my dealer said they won't sell batteries and chargers to an unfamiliar client without checking the frame number with the police. Awk-werd.
  20. I bought a Freego bike just before Christmas and I was surprised to see the owner's manual has a place for service history stamps in the back, like a car would. In particular, they recommend a first service at six weeks (which they say is free, presumably if you take it back to the dealer you bought it from). How important is this, and what are they checking, exactly? Could a regular bike mechanic do it, or are there aspects of the electrics that need looking over? The manual doesn't say if the checkup affects the warranty, but I bet it would if I ever made a claim. I can't get the bike back to the seller easily. I could get it to a regular bike mechanic nearby, if it's important.
  21. Hi!

Cooper replied to Amped's topic in Introduce Yourself!
March! You must be jumping out of your skin! I had to wait four days for mine to be delivered, and I was practically running in circles yipping by the time it got here. And then, when I'd put it all together, I discovered they'd left out the pedals... Welcome to the forum. New here myself.
  22. Ha! Not if I'm lucky. I wore the full kit on Christmas morning, and my husband kept shouting, "oi! You! Go dig me a hole!" One of these days, I probably will, too.
  23. I have the perfect commute for one of these things, I think. It's 1.3 miles each way -- a mile straight and flat as a table and .3 of very steep hill. I've been walking it every day for two years and pretending I did it because it was awesome for my health. Well, it probably was, but I'm pretty sore and sick of it (we needn't discuss why I don't have a driving license). Just before Christmas, I took delivery of an off-the-shelf e-bike: a Freego Regency. Looks like all the cool kids build theirs from kits, but this will probably be plenty for my modest needs. Also, I thought it looked really keen. I'm loving it so far. It makes me sore in all new places. The weather has been strictly horrible, but I'm experiencing it in 12 minute doses instead of 30 minutes at a time, so it's still a win. And Santa brought me one of those attractive hi-vis waterproof highway worker suits, so it's all good. Hello for now. I do have a few questions, but I'll find an appropriate thread to stick them in.
  24. Sussex police get their bikes from the same dealer I did. In fact, they just took a large shipment of new ones. Hmm...I wonder if they did that to get grandfathered mounts?
