  1. your picture would suggest why
  2. I do appreciate an elite component, but its not necessary for the kind of thing i want to do. Its more a bike i can use for commuting during the week and do some trails at the weekend. I wont be doing 5ft jumps on it. Dont think i'll see air forks in my budget. As long as they lock out for road use i'll be fine. I've mainly been looking at hard tails, but when i saw rear suspension for a similar price i was intrigued. Doing a conversion is an intriguing prospect. How does a 8-9yr old 'good' bike compare with a brand new budget bike nowadays? I've not really seen kits for under £500 and they are never as neat as integrated units. If there are any out there though i'd love to know.
  3. Not sure if you or the forum put that advert up for £850 shocks, but im pretty sure i dont need those
  4. How is it for rattles if you are running on something like a rough gravel trail?
  5. This looks really cheap for a e-mtb with rear suspension. I know its never going to be a Haibike, but wondered if anyone had seen anything from this company and how the quality was. Looking for something to do light forest work for around £1k . https://www.argentobike.it/en/prodotto/performance-pro/ thanks.
  6. Has anyone used the Woosh Zephyr off-road? Its a full suspension folder which would be great for moving around in a car. My current 'full suspension' e-mtb is great on road, but take it off-road and its components rattle like a spanner in a washing machine. I've had to pack out the battery with foam tape. Not looking for a downhill bike, but would like something i can blast along forest trails that isnt going to rattle and clang.
  7. If i was driving then it would definitely be cheaper. Parking charges are terrible. About £8/day here or a day return for about £3/day on the bus, but they are inconvenient. Motorbike parking however is free and it probably costs about 20p in petrol. I (sadly) worked out my break-even point when i first bought it and it worked out at around 1200 miles, but i've since bought a new saddle, a rear tyre and some lights which will add a few more on. Its going to need a new set of cogs on the back at some point too and possibly a brake disc.
  8. I'm sort of on the fence if the e-bike actually saves me money, but its certainly better exercise. The purchase cost and inevitable battery replacement costs are still very high. I've got a little commuting 125cc that does 120MPG, parts cost buttons for it and it cost less than most e-bikes to purchase.
  9. I changed mine to a maddison flux. Best £20 i've spent as the stock saddle was evil.
  10. I bought my E-bike as an alternative to using a motorbike to commute. I'd never considered cycling in the past as i didn't want to turn up to work all sweaty and have to deal with changes of clothes etc. When i bought my first e-bike it was a gamble, i thought it might not be for me or i'd only use it in fair weather ,but i couldn't of been more wrong. I've only missed about two days all winter so far and although you definitely still get a great cardio workout , you can dial it back if you overheat and let the motor do some work. Once you hit town they are also fantastic when you are stopping and starting all the time and you don't need to be going through the gears all the time. If i cycle for leisure though, i still take a normal bike. I wouldn't say its 'more fun' , but if i have no time constraints on where i need to be then i don't really feel the need for the e-bike. I think they both have their place and both are definitely still fun.
  11. Nope, if you go the start of the thread there is a picture. Its the folder with the battery hidden in the frame.
  12. Just taken delivery of the Tornado and first impressions are really good. Seems a solid built little machine and has quite a bit of torque. Great headlight on it too. Only negative so far is the charge point and lock for the battery are in a right PITA location and they don't have a cover so i'm a bit worried water will get in over time.
  13. Is the battery in the frame on the tornado?
  14. looks like there is maybe access to bolts from the rear.. http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb78/fl_x/ebike_zpsy3bisz85.jpg
  15. I will check tonight, but i've a feeling it might be riveted. The cover in front of it doesnt seem to have anything to unbolt, so i'd guess the pedal and crank will need removed to get at it. Will need to look whats needed for that. Plenty of motorbike tools, not so much for bicycles.
  16. Better a few more teeth on the front then than a few less on the back?
  17. haha no, not quite. It does require a lot of effort and perseverance keeping it anywhere near 20mph though. If i'm going to change the sprockets/chain i'd ideally like to increase the gearing at the same time. gears 1-4 are never used and 6 spins out too early.
  18. Will probably have to replace it at some point. Its not slipping or anything. do you think it will snap the chain? They only have 6mths of use on them so not a great lifespan.
  19. thats the one.
  20. other than it being a shimano set i don't know much more. Its likely one of the budget end ones
  21. 5th gear is looking a little bit twisted too, but nowhere near as bad as 6th. The rest are fine, but its fairly rare i'll ever drop into 4th.
  22. Everything seems pretty well aligned and there are no odd noises or rubbing. I thought that too. its got a lot of torque, but the stress on the sprocket is due to me pedalling not the motor.
  23. No, its a rear hub motor. I'm the mid motor part
  24. Hi, Its a Liberty Stealth, which i believe is a U.S version of the ProRider e-voyager with some minor tweaks like disc brakes.
  25. I don't think my smallest sprocket is surviving the torque of my motor very well. Is this common on e-bikes? http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb78/fl_x/cog_zpsqanclngu.jpg
