First e Bike finally complete!
Just thought I would post an update after 3 days of riding. Batteries are amazing for cheap knock off's at £30 each so definitely an option if you need a cost effective solution. Motor pulls well and is not at all noisey. It's great that you can just leave it in the middle gear and adjust power assist to your own effort. Obviously I can't predict any long term outcomes but this bike blows new e mtb's out of the water for half the price!

First e Bike finally complete!
I fitted a Leckie bling ring 42 tooth with the stock 10 speed cassette. One problem I had was the original chain was too short and pulled the derailleur out of its ideal position. Everything now works really well, going into all gears without fear of losing the chain. The Leckie is expensive but well worth the money.

Will look into that soundwave, cheers.

First e Bike finally complete!
Due to budget constraints I'm currently using two 18v 6ah drill batteries strapped together powering the bbs02 motor. I have a short but very hilly commute so not too bothered about range. I really want to keep the batteries centrally mounted on the bike possibly in front of the seatpost. Any suggestions gratefully received.

The rear bag idea is a non starter. It basically dropped onto the wheel under the weight of the batteries when I was negotiating some rough trails. The small full suss frame lacks any space to put batteries centrally. More head scratching i'm afraid.

Sorry some pictures didn't load so have added again, doh!

First e Bike finally complete!
After much frustration, head scratching and numerable distractions my first attempt at an e bike conversion is finally finished, accept for a new bag for the batteries as my current solution failed on my return trip from work today! I have to say that i am very pleased with the way it performes and have attached a few pictures if anyone is interested.

e Day has finally arrived.
This e bike build is turning out to be an expensive business. So far have purchased: 1. New chain ring to improve chain line. 2. New chain because old one was too short. 3. New left crank arm because the stock Bafang one (probably to keep cost down ) has no offset. I sure there will be more no doubt. Haven't even got onto the battery yet!

Build is progressing after a couple of obstacles avoided. Had to remove chain gaurd mounts and reroute rear derailleur cable.

Lurker ready to join the ebike world
I have just started my first kit build and have already had to get the dremmel to my frame. The Bafang motor clashes with the ISCG mounts on my bottom bracket. Lesson 1 check the kit fits your bike!

Am I right in thinking Loctite Blue is only available in the US? Does anyone know what the UK equivalent is.

I think mine will be pretty mediocre by the sound of things. Was tempted to go more power but opted for less weight and less wear & tear. Anyway i am only 9 stone dripping wet!

Not sure how much information to divulge but hopefully my bike will be "adequately" powered to get me around at a "reasonable" speed. Are there any e spies on here?

Hope to be hurtling around Salisbury and the Plain once the machine is up and running. Within the speed limit obviously!

Absolutely brilliant! I was hoping it would be a good idea to post my build on here. Top advice Steve.

Nice one Steve UKLSRA. Does tightening up that amount drive the teeth fully home or does the plate sit off slightly? I did consider filing some very small grooves to help them bite in easier. Ideally a would like the plate to sit totally flush against the BB face.

Thanks for that D8ve, I new that dremmel would come in useful one day! Slightly concerned about tightening the locking ring up to 45Nm to drive the toothed plate into the frame, seems a bit brutal. I'm sure there's a more technical way of doing it.

Before I start to fit my new kit to the bike I thought I would power up the system and check it over. I`ll also be adding some extra Mobil 28 to the final drive. Any other tips before fitting would be much appreciated.

e Day has finally arrived.
After a year of deliberation, indecision, confusion and numerous YouTube videos and forums I plumped for, you guessed it a Bafang 36v BBS02. Not the best but arguably the most popular mid drive on the market. I will be strapping it to my Saracen killyflyer full suspension bike, an overweight tank of a bike that needs more than just my spindly legs to carry it around the trails. I can just hear my mate muttering, " what a whimp". I'm going to carry a battery in my back pack so hopefully he won't know as I fly past him on the climbs.

Just waiting for a few bits and bobs to arrive and oops.....finish the kitchen!! Oh did I forget to mention that my wife is blissfully unaware of my other project. Hope to post progress and pictures in due course.

I don't know anyone personally that thinks owning an e bike or building one is a good thing. I just needed to tell someone that I have just bought a mid drive kit and intend fitting it to my full suspension mountain bike. This forum seemed like the best place to announce my imminent project as it has been a great source of information for me and a place that I may get some encouragement and a positive response. Wish me luck, if you like.
