  1. At last, mobility restored :. The new battery is connected to two of the jumble of wires sprouting from the controller (?). The black wire to the black terminal and the red wire, oh, you're there before me. Twist the throttle and the wheel goes round. Just like a real motor bike. The lights don't work and the application of the brakes doesn't disconnect power so riding isn't quite as idiot proof as I'd like... still, the wheels go round again. Pedalling motivates the motor as well. Quite pleased with myself. Juicy Lucy takes to the Cheshire lanes again.
  2. Back on the road at last! Juicy rides again! Due to the unlimited kindness and support of the Juicy Bike team we're back in action. The new battery now sits on a new baseplate and the new wires meet the old wiring via a new connector. The lights don't work and the handlebar display keeps its dark secrets but the wheels go round and the bike makes joyful progress. Battery lights will be obtained and anxious glances will be cast at the charge indicator on the top of the battery (anxious because I'm colour blind) but we're under weigh again. Bob Wales would be proud. We can't Womble round sub-Saharan Africa anymore but Cheshire is almost as welcoming, or it will be, post-plague. Thanks to all who helped - buy Juicy!
  3. J and I have had Juicy Dutch bikes for about ten years. Trouble-free, sturdy, lovely bikes - the Daimlers of the bicycle world! J has a balance problem and passed her bike on to a neice, I am having a spot of trouble matching a new battery to mine but expect they'll clear this up and I'll have a few more years exploring the Cheshire lanes and coffee shops! (J now has a trike, not a Juicy but purchased from Bob.) Hope Bob has a great retirement = best job I've ever had! Tom
  4. Juicy Bikes every time! I've been a happy customer since Adam was a lad, and it's been a good experience. At the moment I'm having problems getting a new battery to propel my Dutch step-through but I'm convinced I'll soon be back on the road! Best wishes to Bob and the rest of the team.
  5. Sunlight is a great help. On closer examination the trike appears to be a Batribike (Batritrike?) with front wheel drive and pedal drive to the nearside rear wheel. This may be the cause of the difficulty steering the thing? The front wheel and handlebars have a tilting facility, supposed to help steer the beast on a chosen course. Limited help. as my frequent encounters with the kerbstones in the Close bear witness ... help, bright ideas needed :-(
  6. Thank you, I'll try this!
  7. Thanks, flecc. A change to FWD wouldn't help?
  8. I'm trying to change from 2 wheels to three. Total failure. New steed is a sit-up-and-beg, 20" wheel, tilting steering column, nearside rear wheel drive. I can't master steering the thing. Steering in a straight line is near impossible, as, sadly, is going to right or left in anything like a controlled manner. Perhaps the problem is with the one-sided rear wheel drive? Would changing to front wheel drive be a simple solution? I've managed two wheels for 70 years! Help, please. 36v10amp power.
  9. I'm having difficulty steering a trike, The motor is in the rear near-side wheel and the steering has a mind of its owm. Would changing the motor to the front wheel solve this problem? I realise there may be some loss of power on steep hills but I can live with that. The trike has a tilting steering column which can be locked into place. I'd love to be able to steer round gentle left and right-hand bends (going in a straight line would be good too ...) Many thanks for advice. Thought - maybe the ability to steer anything at 85 is a factor! Fingers crossed
  10. If it's any help, we've been delighted with our Juicy bikes. They're about 10 years old, look as good as new. They have been neglected for a couple of years and Juicy Bikes came out, checked them over, tested the batteries and brakes, pronounced them fit to ride and wished us well. I was expecting a recommendation to buy new batteries but it wasn't even suggested. Brilliant service - beat that, Rolls Royce!
  11. Being 84 is brilliant! I've slowed down a bit, have to keep taking the tablets, still have stupid grin as I eBike along the Cheshire lanes. Stately Dutch Juicy bike for longer rides, folding Gallego (?) Woosh bike to stow in the back of the car, and an unpowered Brompton to play with on very short trips! :-)
  12. I've been absent for a couple of years. Managed to breathe life into one of the stored batteries and now able to venture to local Co-op for the odd bottle of Pinot and a bag of wholegrain bread flour. Life at 84 looks promising again and the eBike will certainly feature in the next book! Greetings to all and may the eWind be forever at your back!
  13. Drat. Thank you. I will have to meddle with small screwdrivers and a magnifing glass … :-)
  14. Having resurrected the ebike with a few local 2 mile runs the battery has died - must be 6 or 7 years old and neglected for the last couple of years. So, buy a new battery. Problem: how do I decide the polarity (hope that's the correct word) of the bike? I have a faded memory of having changed the setting of the thing the battery plugs into for some long forgotten reason. How do I determine what the state is (and what would happen if I install a new battery with opposite polarity? At the age of 84.25yrs and rarely trusted with sharp tools during that time ... Help!
  15. I too am 84, and determined to wear out as many pairs of slippers as I yet can! Come on, peps, the slipper industry needs you!
  16. Trying to return to e-biking after a period of ill-health we find ourselves lumbered with two dead batteries - one won't charge and the other will charge but only functions downhill for a mile ... so, need 36v 8ah two prong battery. I've noticed an add on Ebay for GreenCell batteries, £150 each. Can anyone please advise about this company (or any other?). It must be at least 8 years since I last bought a bike battery! Many thanks, and best wishes for sunny cycling.
  17. Membership lapsed when J, my partner, became unable to cycle. However, with her prompting, I dusted the cobwebs off my ebikes (a stately classic Juicy Bike and a foldable Gallego by Woosh). A little fettling and they leapt into life. The batteries seem to have survived - I kept them topped up - and the Gallego now lives in the car and the Juicy is back on stand-by for runs to the paper shop (and the off licence). Don't you just love a wicker handlebar basket? Greetings to all, may the ebike silly grin decorate your faces for many moons to come! Tom
  18. Hi

brindledog replied to Coffee's topic in Introduce Yourself!
Welcome - friends will soon get used to the silly grin on your face (all pedelecers have it). The Gallego folds up quite well, once you've mastered the sequence and utter the correct spell. It takes off with a woosh which can be a little un-nerving on loose gravel. The clip which holds the rear frame in place has just fallen off my bike so it's like wrestling with a demonic octopus until I get a replacement … enjoy the miles and the smiles :-)
  19. J has a trike. A few years ago, she suddenly lost all hearing in her left ear. Her sense of balance was destroyed at the same time, and her cycling career ended. She had cycled for fifty years and was devastated by this lose. She bought a trike and has had the greatest difficulty adapting to 3 wheels. Steering was the main problem; I wonder if, having biked for so long, where steering is largely done by balance, the conversion is so difficult? Following a fall off the trike, which happened during a sharp left turn, she gave up for twelve miserable months. Today we tried again - a long way from other traffic - with mixed results. Hope your mum has fewer difficulties - best wishes. Tom
