  1. I don't believe the safe mode story due to power overload. The Suntour system has a flashing mode to warn of strain on the system. Each of the three times it's happened to me I've been stationery or at an easy coast. I'm pretty sure it's a software bug that occurs randomly.
  2. Worth checking the cable under the velcro bit by the motor, these can be loose as they really need to be tightly together as far as the marked line. Likely to be the known cutting out issue which has no fix though and you're unlucky it happened first day!
  3. Little point asking for a replacement, they all do it randomly. Mine is the newer version. Doesn't bother me. I've done 400 miles and it's happened 3 times randomly. Always carry the key with you as sometimes keep switching it on again works but sometimes removing the battery, waiting 30 secs then replacing works.
  4. On a FB group a member of GTECH staff posted that they has sold 70,000. I can also confirm that the claim of 30 miles is probably reasonable (I'm about 100kg and new to cycling and I got 25 miles, someone lighter would get 30 miles on full assist).
  5. I have a Carrera Crossfire with 170 miles on the clock. I can confirm that the new upgraded model has the same 'cut-out' fault. This has happened to me on 2 occasions. 1st time switched itself off twice within a few minutes. 2nd time switched itself off 5 times within a few minutes despite battery removal and replacement. Then it continued fine!! Both times I was in 'eco' on flat road with no strain on the motor or battery. Both times there was no bang / jolt / bump to dislodge the battery. I conclude the fault is RANDOM..... Maybe that's why they can't fix the fault?
  6. I'd be surprised if they discounted as they're selling like hot cakes. p.s. NHS 7.5% discount for NHS staff registered on NHS discounts.
  7. They still have the bike. I was told new one was ordered and would be built and ready to be collected by Monday. Sounds from the knowledgeable people here that a simple hard push of the connector is all that is needed. I had looked at the connector but it was so tied down with cable straps I couldn't move it so presumed it was in place correctly. Dilemma is to either wait until Monday and collect brand new bike or pop in tomorrow and see if my bike is still with them or sent back to warehouse. Hmmmm.....
  8. Crikey. Looks like the shop are replacing a completely fine bike for such a minor fault! I feel bad for them now!!
  9. I did check the connector, seemed very tight. Don't think it would have caused the grating metal noise in the motor if it was a loose cable either. I think it would have stopped the motor (motor continued to work but very horrible sounds for a few minutes).
  10. If only you had a flux capacitor fitted!
  11. Thought I'd share my experience with the Crossfire e-bike so far! Bought my Crossfire from Halfords last weekend and picked it up yesterday. I took advantage of 10% trade-in plus 7.5% NHS discount plus bought just 1 day before £100 price increase on Monday so happy with bargain! Took it home and tested. Initially disappointed that 8th gear didn't work, chain kept slipping. I'm sure this is something easy to fix for keen cyclists. Then after 5 miles test I get E42 message on the display. Switch off and on again and the message disappears but awful rubbing / metal grating noise from motor. This lasts a few minutes but disappears. OK I think, hopefully that's a one off. Few miles later same happens again. Took it back to Halfords this morning, customer service excellent. Of course the bike is working perfectly now. However I'm not really confident in the bike. E42 error is 'motor or motor communication fault' according to the manual. The motor cable is fine so sure if is a damaged motor. The manual says solution for this error is new motor or motor cable! So even though working perfectly today and no proof of the error code or terrible (but intermittent) mechanical noise the manager straight away offered to replace it with a brand new one (sadly not in stock). So 10/10 for customer service but 1/10 confidence in the bike so far as failed with <10 miles on the clock:(..... I'll update when the replacement comes in!
  12. Hi from sunny Northumberland. Long time lurker, decided to join! I'm lucky enough to own two e-bikes (to encourage wife to join me on rides and not leave her far behind!). I'm 46, sedentary job, lack of exercise and wanting to get fit. Love cycling but due to the pain of hills I could never get very far into the country. Now I have a much bigger radius to explore which means I enjoy cycling more. Really feeling the burn in the legs despite electrical assist!
