  1. what you need is something like this, The Ultimate Bike Safe I don't speak German, but I see where they are coming from:) It's actually a promo video for a design company.
  2. Thanks Jerry, that looks like the kind of thing I need. will reduce the bike weight by at least two K
  3. i already have a very good ping 10ah but as I only use 2ah per day i was thinking of a smaller setup
  4. of course it's only 5ah - what was i thinking Is balance everything? from what i read here many people don't even use a BMS and have no problems.
  5. HobbyKing Online R/C Hobby Store : ZIPPY Flightmax 5000mAh 6S1P 20C Excellent value at about £31 each!! So for about £100 (for charger as well) you can have a 10ah 44v battery pack They even have a European warehouse Tell me this is too good to be true
  6. I was offering genuine thanks as I knew people didn't know what to reply with. But if your offering xmas cards, yes please! Also, don't forget my birthday (my wife shares the same date so that will save you money), oh, almost forgot the wedding anniversary as well - do the kids birthdays qualify? very generous of you- cheers Rob
  7. Well thanks for all the help, i saw it had been read many times;) Turns out that what I thought was medium power was in fact my own legs, the pedelec sensor had been knocked out. It proves what we already know, ebikes make you fitter without the drama. rob
  8. A rather strange thing has started to happen with my controller. The setup is like this 8Fun rear motor. A controller - not sure who makes it. 3 way power switch Thumb throttle. If I power on the bike in full power position everything is fine - full power is there. When I switch to low power mode and then try and get full power back again, it only goes to med power? I have to switch to low power, hold the throttle down and then switch to full power which sometimes tricks it into full power again but not all the time! What is going on here?
  9. Interesting idea, I am not 100 percent sure but you would need a motor designed for such a varied output, I think a crank motor would do what you want. From what I understand the controller doesnt limit the speed, its the overall ratios of volts, internal gearing (rpm) and wheel size
  10. Ah flec, that goes without saying. I was sure you could spec a good controller .
  11. Size/shape? Programmable? Power rating? Regeneration? Console/Display?
  12. Big apples eh, I might just give them a go, the travel contacts are not great this time of year what with all the wet leaves and soon ice. cheers
  13. After 800 miles (ish), i am finding my bike to be a bit jarring as I hit speed bumps for over 1.5 miles of my daily commute. I have always been a fan of stiff frame set-ups but that was before I maintained a good average speed. I also went off-road tonight for the first time -what fun, the temptation not to pedal becomes almost too much:) Anyway, I got caught in a bike worn rut that almost got the better of me - at that point I thought suspension would have helped me get out of there - I am correct? My dear old GT is 20 years old now and the efit feels like it is taking a toll on it so I am thinking of replacing it with a good full suspension bike and fitting my kit to it. What do you guys think, recommendations, etc? cheers rob
  14. that's a nice bike, motor is a little on the large size but for those watts it will be. At 7000 euros it should be hand made and blessed with the blood of a 1000 chickens:)
  15. It is very good to see an ebike as chic at last.
  16. It's odd, I didn't mean to turn the post into a cardio based one, but I honestly feel lucky being in a position to use technology to help correct an health issue, effectively!
  17. was that you in the baseball cap today Trevor?
  18. @oldtimer I know where your coming from its like turning up at a earthquake disaster with a dust pan and brush
  19. I'll keep an eye out for you Trevor, most likely on the way home, I ride towards Sunbury. How is the kit? would be good to stop and exchange rides to see how a different bike feels.
  20. for the last 4 months my ebike has replaced my now sorn car. Still have the wife's car for those needy times.
  21. For the start of this journey into ebikes see this post http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/electric-bicycles/6113-my-19-year-old-gt-mb-conversion.html. As you can tell from the subject I am very happy with my results & decisions. About 3 years ago I started having ectopic beats, the SVTs (Supraventricular tachycardia) kind, and this seriously dented my confidence (I was 39 back then). The cardiologist assured me that my heart was in good condition to maintain a working heart rate, so the old bike came out and I started riding to work. On the 4th day, I finished my 5 mile trek into work and my heart doubled in speed, with it being 140bpm at the time, it went up to almost 280bpm (recorded)! Let me tell you that 5 seconds is a long, long time at 280bpm, I honestly thought I was going to die then and there. Again, I went to the Docs but to be honest they didn't give a BROWN LOG, statistically, I don't fit a risk profile and after every test in the 'Beginners Book To Cardiovascular Function' they don't even discuss it anymore. So with them not giving a flying fornication and my own lack of self confidence my health went downhill fast. Anyway, during that period I started looking at ebikes and found the suppliers to be woeful on two fronts; looks and price. Being a relativity young man with image hangups I wanted something that would pass as a normal bike - no cigar! If I were in the ebike business I would go to lengths to hide the technology, but no, the ebike business is into obvious and IMHO this is detrimental for a wider demographic takeup. The only players that like subtle is Cytronex but it's a very expensive trek bike, so I left it for a couple of years to see if things progressed - they didn't - in my opinion the market is much the same as it was back then only prices have got even higher. So I asked here and Phil (I think) advised me to go the DIY route and put me in contact with 'German' Frank for which I am very grateful. back in June I was 15.5 stone (about 98kg), today I am 14.5 stone(92kg), fitter, firmer and feeling much better in myself. There is another stone to drop but I have almost lost the weight of the kit I added to my bike which is utterly brilliant. My car came up for it's MOT and Tax and I decided not to renew it, that coupled with the cost of fuel I have saved about £600 so far (profit!) How is the bike running? I would like to have a negative but honestly can't find anything that you would not adapt to, like pedalec control, it's slow to kick in but a little twist on the throttle when needed works great. Rocket take-off in slow moving traffic was a problem at first but the 3 speed switch works well in this situation. Power wise the motor and battery combination have been perfect with a fully charged battery giving me about 35 mile range (+ a little reserve ), the rear wheel could do with better truing but it works. I think my only negative is the throttle, it worked it's way towards the grip and started sticking - so redesign on that could fix the problem as could making sure it was tight in the first place Do I love my bike? you bet, it's already given me 20 years of service and now thanks to a motor could give me another 20. If you commute through Hampton court I'm the aggressive rider on the blue bike (that doesn't look like an ebike) hand signing the car drivers that get too close Now, lets see how much cold I can handle in the coming months. Rob
  22. I am getting 4 miles per Ah (always pedalling on high power setting-250v motor), so my 10ah battery could carry me 40miles but i think 35 miles is more realistic.
  23. Seems to me that a hub motor could generate a decent amount of power if used on a small wind turbine? On the subject of power generation, why is there a downer for regeneration on ebikes - what are the actual numbers and facts?
  24. I am not sure we live in a police state where anything that could be breaking the law is monitored. There are much bigger fish to fry in terms of monitoring, I could provide some examples but the list would be very long. To me it is very simple - break the law and lose a possible insurance claim. If I fall under a lorry and die with a ebike that travels faster than 15mph +7% my family would loose my life insurances - it's just not worth it.
  25. Hi John, It is worth noting that i have cut most of the original metal ring away, I have not seen the sunlova sensor but would have thought it was the same as mine before the chop? cheers rob
