Fears of e-bike fires putting people off buying them
The proportion of rogue/illegal ebikes (or associated chargers) to pukka ones is probably much higher than the proportion for electric cars.

Raleigh Select Six battery options
I'm not sure, I think it should be OK but more experienced other people will soon comment. (It turns out so soon it crossed in the posting time) Whatever, if you DO change it you will almost certainly need a different charger.

I am revamping Woosh website - please take a test ride and comment
Step 1. I suggest Pop off the dust cap, undo the central bolt. Make sure the central rod (?correct term? ?pusher?) of the crank puller is fully unwound, then thread the puller in and wind the central rod against the spindle. The arm walks straight off. ~ ~ ~ I'm not that convinced by the diagrams in fig 1; the mixed perspective would be quite confusing if you didn't already know what was meant.

Another new member
I'm afraid a restricted more powerful motor remains illegal for use on the road. Also illegal for use off road in any publicly accessible place. However, the 250w is the rated continuous power; lots of legal motors can generate peak power of 3 times that or more.

I'm fairly neutral about the new site; basically works fine: I've not tried it on my phone. A few glitches ... On the page https://wooshbikes.co.uk/beta/shop/index.php#, all the bike type items and several others point back to that page itself. Calling the Conversion Kits as 2 products is a little confusing: there are two product types but many products. Not a serious issue. 'Our Bikes' on the top menu row is a dead link https://wooshbikes.co.uk/beta/bikes.php. Probably worth using a web crawler to detect

Will a new ebike eventually become landfill?
Yes, you have a very good point. It is particularly an issue with small niche players with 'advanced' designs. Relatively OK with Bosch as it has such large market share, and a reasonable history of supplying spares (but often at very high price). There is an alternative, which is to go for bikes that use generic Chinese parts. Even if you can't get an exact replacement after a few years you should be able to make some slight modifications and keep it going. These bikes are mostly much cheaper to buy, and much cheaper for spares. However, you need to be competent to work on any issues yourself (with the help for forums such as this); it is quite likely your LBS won't touch such a bike.

Options for buying a new cooker
Does it have a safety cutout? I'd expect to be able to use a match to light the oven and the rings of a cooker that old.

2026 Forum update
Minor forum issue. Post https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/classifieds/listing/1-raleigh-detour-1-electric-hybrid-only-120-miles-36v250w/ is stuck in my 'What's New?' view, despite having opened it a few times. I can easily ignore it, but it will get a bit irritating if it continues for any significant time. On the whole, despite the issues, I am happy with the new Forum; certainly snappier than the old. Thank you Admins.

Which hub motor for a tandem ?
An update on my own post from some time ago. Just under a year ago we downgraded to an Ecosmo. One thing that really pleased us is that it does NOT have the compressed feeling of the Circe; my wife finds it eve a little better than the Viking for that. We bought it 2nd hand with the supplied electric system. That comes at a very high price on a new one, but £500 for a second hand electric one with very low milage seemed reasonable. It has rear wheel hub motor. Like the XF07 on a big wheel it can't do as much at low speeds on hills as we would like, but it is meeting our fairly limited requirements very well. I think both would be challenged in the Peak district. One absolutely necessary change was to replace the 14-28 freewheel with an 11-32 one. That would have applied electric or not. We don't go that fast, but the 14 rear gave an absurdly low top 50" gear, and the low 32 rear (25") was a bit high for comfort on hills.

Connect prorider.
That is standard for many bikes in countries like Denmark and Holland. Common enough in Germany that I think of them in German (Rückbremsen) despite my German being very very rusty. It allows people with relatively little hand strength to get good braking. I hate it, as do most people not brought up on it. It makes it difficult to get the pedals in the right place to start. If you look online you will probably find instructions for disabling it. There are two rear brakes, in the hub (the backbrake one) and the V brakes. The lever will be operating the V-brake
