  1. Thanks, my regular ride which is 20 miles round trip has a couple of good hills and i only really need assistance on the hills. Most of the time i don't use any power.
  2. Thank you both for your replying. I realise now l have looked around that I will need to up my budget. The Woosh Camino looks like a very good deal for the money. Are you likely to be getting any more of the higher capacity batteries?
  3. OK, so I retired last year and I have been riding an old Ailen ebike for the last year or so. I now feel the time is right for a new bike but i have a budget of £1000 max. What do you advise, im 6' 2" tall and use the bike for leasure rides upto 30 miles or so mainly on country lanes and surfaced paths. I look forward to your suggestions.
  4. thanks, it will certainly be worth looking at the motor to see if it's faulty or mot.
  5. I'm told that the gears in the motor are shot, it was worth asking about the compatibility just in case. Thanks for your quick reply.
  6. I have been offered a second hand conversion kit which is complete but has a faulty motor. My question is, the faulty motor has hall sensors, I have a wheel but the motor doesn't have hall sensors can I use that motor?
  7. When you say same basic chemistry, could you mix lithium ion and lithium polymer cells?
  8. I was wondering if it's possible/advisable to run 2 battery packs in parallel to increase the range? As long as the batteries are the same voltage and similar capacity I don't see a problem. Look forward to your feedback.
  9. Thanks that's what i'm looking for.
  10. Hi, Can anyone recommend a controller and display panel for a non sensed hub motor which won't break the bank?
  11. Sorry I don't think I made, myself clear what I want to do is if possible rig up some means of being able to ride without assistance on the level but have assistance on hills without stopping to use the battery switch. Is it possible to do this on an old system?
  12. Hi, I have an old Alien bike which has basic controls, ie no digital display. I don't want to use power all the time but I can't switch on and off other than using the key on the battery. Is there a way to switch power on as required?
  13. My friend fitted a wireless one to his ebike and every time he used the motor it went haywire, when he fitted it to his wife's non electric bike it worked perfectly. I rest my case.
  14. I tried to buy a wired bike computer from my local Halfords. I explained to the lad on the bike repair that I didn't want a wireless one as I thought the magnetic field from the hub motor might interfere with the signal to the head unit. He looked at me like I had gone mad and said " there's a always a magnet on the spokes and that doesn't cause a problem" is it me?
  15. Thanks for the fast reply, will the extra magnets in a 12 disk affect the amount of assistance or not? Garry
  16. Hi. can anyone tell me what effect fitting a magnet disk to the pedal sensor with a different number of magnets would be. The disk fitted has 6 magnets and is pretty battered, most of the replacement disks on e-bay have 8 or 12 magnets. Will the work on my system and if so what difference would it make? Garry
  17. Hi flecc, I have taken your advice and done a range test today, I did a ride which included flat and some good hills and after 20 miles I was done in but the battery was still going strong. I know it's only an indication but the led battery condition display still shows 3 green segments with no load and the 2 amp charger took about 3 hours to do it's job. Thanks for the suggestion I now have confidence in the battery. Garry
  18. Thanks, my job as an auto electrician makes me question anything to do with magnetic fields and indused rf.
  19. Hi, If I fit a bike computer/speedo to the front wheel which has the motor in the hub, will the magnetic field from the motor affect the computer? Garry
  20. Thanks for your help, I'll carry on with the battery I've got until it dies and maybe upgrade to a better bike
  21. Thanks flecc. I don't know which model my bike Is and all the photos I have seen of Alien bikes look very similar. Mine has a 250w front hub motor and the battery is mounted on a rear carrier so I presume it's as it left the factory and is legal? I bought it at what I think was a good price from the widow of an old friend so I don't know it's history other than he bought it about a year ago and he only used it a couple of times. The battery is my main concern, it seems ok but a replacement isn't economical compared to what the bike cost me. Is it possible to test the battery to find out if it's any good?
  22. Hi, I recently retired and was invited by a group of fellow oap's to join them on a regular Thursday morning outing. This was my excuse to buy a second hand e-bike. I can't remember the last time I rode a bike so all this is new to me. Has anyone got any info on the alien electric bike as I know nothing about them?
