  1. Two things spring to mind . Is/was the plastic spoke protector secure. Cheaper ones dont secure particually well and can come loose and wedge between the rear sprockets and the hub motor. The effect of this is it jams the freewheel so as you stop pedalling, the cranks stop but the rear sprockets keep rotating when they shouldn't, this causes slack in the chain, a droop, then it will come off when you start pedalling again. Or maybe the freewheel isnt freewheeling very well causing a similar problem . Just possibilities.
  2. A general rule for me on any bike is to ride out against the wind, homeward with a tailwind. If the battery does go, at least you wont have as much resistance. The one thing I have found when pushing a battery to the limit, once I get to say 10% remaining, the rest falls off a cliff and it depletes quite fast, that with an approximately year old Philion battery fitted to a Carrera E bike.
  3. Be interesting to know. I'm a great believer in trying it yourself, I'll have a go at most things, I've yet to find any meaningful documentation on Carerra stuff.

I can only speak for my Crossfire but it does cut out very occasionally...but hardly ever In reality but often it's been associated with a bump in the road which to me means...a loose connections. Where is the $64,000 question ...and can you do anything about it ? (Obviously not, Halfords would have the answer by now if it were possible) Bit of a pointless comment really

  6. Ignore it, it's stupid PC gone mad. Too many folk are too easy to offend and by even considering not wearing, you're pandering to it and giving it credence. If, the big IF, someone says anything, tell em to do one and stop being stupid. If some nutjobs in France wears trousers and offends someone, would you stop wearing trousers ? Not aimed at anyone in particular, just my thoughts in general
  7. 1300 miles on my Crossfire e...and touchwood, it does occasionally cut out, screen goes blank and no assist, I usually just press the 'on' button on the screen (while I'm still rolling) and it re starts....I guess in 1300 miles, it's happened maybe 10 or 20 times, not that often. I've yet to take off the velcro and have a look at the motor connector... maybe in spring I'll give the whole thing a good clean and inspection, I'll be looking at the sensor on the crank as well, give everything a good look over. Been very happy with it and I wished it didnt have this issue nagging in the background...,but then the option is to pay another £500 or so and get a Bosch powered bike. Not an easy choice is it ?
  8. Looking at your final paragraph regarding the charger....you can maybe take some solace in that a fast charger may well shorten the life of a battery compared to a slow one.
  9. I assume you have the Suntour motor system on your crossfuse Kingsknight ? I must have well over 500 miles on my Crossfire, Suntour motor...and while its cut out on some occasions, not very often. Everything else has been brilliant..TBH, even at 1000 miles, if a bike hasn't been abused, everything should be ok, quite capable of many more miles. It does occur to me the poor rep the suntour system has, what sort of life can you expect from it. I've had no regrets buying it...but I didn't know about its apparent weaknesses when I did buy it.
  10. Members of another cycling forum may recognise my user name but just signed up here as now a fairly new ebike user. Formerly very fit roadbike user (fastish 50 mile rides were quite normal) but at about 55 I caught tuberculosis , pneumonia and a few complications through work which took me off the bike for 2 years. My fitness evaporated and I have a damaged lung which impairs my oxygen uptake...which of course iimpacts my ability to rebuild muscle strength. Now 60 and have gradually got some reasonable fitness back but it's hard maintaining mojo. The ebike was really to help my son out commuting for a few months and I'm on the verge of gaining full control of it...and the occasional rides I get on it are a revelation, allowing me to exercise without busting a gut. I mix use of the two bikes, roadie if it's fine weather, ebike if I'm tired or it's just a bit crud out there. I still roadbike and during the summer of hope to get back to 15 mph average rides over 30 miles so the ebike helping me maintain mojo through the winter. Commutings a revelation as well, 14 miles each way is quite comfortable...I'm looking forward to spring no end.
