  1. When I bought my ebike in December I downloaded the Etube app and have been successfully updating my Shimano E6100 computer. Recently they've updated the app and when I came to bluetooth it to my bike it asks me for a passkey, which I don't know and can't seem to find or guess. I've tried 00000 and 12345 and each time it comes up with an error message - one says "0 cannot be set as the first character in the passkey . Enter in 6 half width numerals". The second only says "enter in 6 half width numerals". I've deleted and re-downloaded the app to make sure it was the most current version. Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so how did you overcome it. Many thanks in advance. Paula
  2. Thanks - my husband has been looking into this and might use my old tyres to trim and put in his as a type of liner.
  3. Hi there. Having suffered two (yes, I know not many compared to some) punctures on my journeys I'd really like to try to make myself as punctureproof as possible as I'm scared to go out on my own just now. The First time I got one was 20 minutes after I'd bought the bike, cycling home from the ,and I got help from the shop to repair it. Second time I was with my husband who repaired it. I'm about to go on a course to teach me how to do this myself but that's not for a couple of weeks. I know people would say go tubeless but I can't afford to buy new wheels and tyres so am thinking of new tyres (Schwalbe Marathon Plus), a Kevlar liner and slime tubes. I think if anything got through that lot I must be the unluckiest person out there. What's your opinion (be nice please). Cheers.
  4. I hope everyone had the Christmas you hoped for - I know I did and got some lovely cycling presents I'm now starting to plan some cycling adventures and one I've been thinking about is the Rhine from source to sea. Has anyone done it and if so how did you transport your bikes to Switzerland? I've just watched a video on YouTube about it and the two cyclists had theirs shipped over by DHL. Have any of you used them or any other company like that before? I've been told that ebikes can't go on planes due to the batteries so ferry or train seem the obvious choice or, as I mentioned above, sending the bikes to the hotel in Switzerland then cycling home on them. Cheers.
  5. Kristin, I bought a new Kalkhoff Endeavour 5.I in August and had problems with the battery discharging all the time so 3 weeks ago the dealer finally replaced it but because my bike had been discontinued I got a considerable upgrade. I now have a Kalkhoff Endeavour 5.S XXL which has a shimano motor and battery and judging by the comments above about an impulse motor, I'm glad I've now got a shimano one. They also come with Bosch motors, which I believe are reputable too. So far, it's performing admirably.
  6. Thanks for your reply. I think what happened was that my friend had his daughter sitting on my bike while we were talking and she had her feet on the pedals and the then switched the bike on. I heard a couple of beeps but thought it was his phone, on reflection it was probably warning me of what had happened. Not realising this, I rode away and it was only when I thought it felt like there was no assistance that I noticed the warning/error code so stopped, switched it off and on and all seems good now. Hopefully it'll not happen again but just in case I emailed a photo of the computer showing the error to the dealer I got the bike from.
  7. Got my new bike on 7 December 2019 and today wondered why I was struggling a bit cycling along the road then noticed the warning and error code WO13. Switched off then back on and seems to be OK now. I've not bluetoothed my phone to the bike yet - what's the benefits in updating the firmware components (I'm not very computer/gadget savvy so don't even know what a firmware component is!!).
  8. I've heard two different versions on how to get the best from the battery on our electric bikes. One (that I actually read in the instruction manual) is that the first time I need to charge it (I only got the bike last Saturday and according to the range meter I only have 13 miles left in it) I should let the battery completely die then charge it up. This is because of battery memory and after that I should do the same thing every 6 months to help prolong the battery range/life. The second is that it doesn't matter about this because they don't have memories so it's irrelevant whether I charge it when it's half used or fully used. What's your views? Paula
  9. My husband and myself only started riding in May this year and I bought a second hand Raleigh Motus ebike with a 400Wh battery. My husband bought a new Kalkhoff Endeavour with a 600Wh battery. We did the Coast and Castles route in August and my battery nearly ran out one day after 45 miles but my husband's had quite a lot left "in the bank" so when we got home I sold my Raleigh and bought a Kalkhoff too. My advise to you would be to decide what sort of riding you want to do - if you think you might want to do long distances then make sure you get a bike with a 500Wh or bigger battery to give you the opportunity to go further without having to think about charging it mid day. As mentioned above, try other local bike shops. We bought ours from Edinburgh Cycle Coop in Newcastle and got really good discounts plus other free goodies (bike locks, helmet, spare tubes to name a few).
  10. Thanks. I'm really looking forward to getting it - can't wait to get back out there. I've been using the Hubster's bike every now and then while he's been away but it's a large frame so a bit uncomfortable after a bit of a while so I haven't used it a lot.
  11. I was told it's a very popular motor on Specialized bikes. Anyhow, I suppose only time will tell. Hopefully I'll have my new bike in the next two weeks.
  12. Any observations on these as an introduction to E Biking? Hi I'm new to this group and have only just found your post. Did you get sorted and did you buy a Kalkhoff? Me and my husband have Kalkhoff bikes but before I bought mine I had a Raleigh Motus which had a Bosch 40 Nm motor and a 400Wh battery and my husband's Kalkhoff has a 70 Nm impulse motor and a600 Wh battery. In August we cycled the Coast and Castles route from Edinburgh to Newcastle and on the first day we covered around 45 miles. My battery was showing only one bar left with 15 miles of quite hilly terrain to cover but my husband's still had almost half a battery left. Because of this I then bought my Kalkhoff Endeavour 5.I move (80Nm motor and 500 Wh battery) but due to the battery discharging every night by around 2 to 3% when not being used, and not being able to be fixed, I'm having it replaced with another Kalkhoff with a shimano motor. I'd be interested to hear what you chose in the end. Paula
  13. Hi, my husband and myself bought Kalkhoff bikes in the summer and due to problems I had with mine I am now having it replaced with a Kalkhoff Endeavour 5S XXL. I was wondering if anyone has had this model of bike and if so what's your views on it. I loved the one that I'm having replaced but they can't replace it with the same model as it's not longer available, so this is the closest spec to it. Many thanks. Paula
