  1. I have a Rambletta. You can ride on flat hard paths in the forest but not recommended for off road or very bumpy ground (eg mountain bike type terrain). Main thing is while foldable to some extent, it (like most e bikes ) will be very heavy and quite cumbersome - it doesn't hold closed when folded (a bungee cord might help) so lifting it in and out of your car wont be something you will want to do too often , though you will as said, have to compromise due to your needs and budget. For me the folding option is just a nice extra, (I don't drive car) but as a city bike , it's a good ride , in my opinion. You can ride it without power if you really have to, but due to the weight , it's a slower ride (specially with a full panier) . Just use the lowest setting to conserve battery power but makes a difference to the speed. I got a chance last year to visit Whoosh to take a look first before ordering, but that wont be possible now as their shop is closed to visitors. For aftersales , I would choose Whoosh over an anonymous ebay seller any day.
  2. This is a confusing and confused BBC report . Reading it on the UK BBC site , it starts off and mostly covers the US standards with a couple of paragraphs on the UK situation . If I were a prospective UK e biker , I would probably be none the wiser after reading it. Yes, the UK regs are controversial when you get to to detail but I dont think this US centric article helps the novice . /rant over https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-57279844

  4. Anyone seen the Met bragging about stopping illegal motor scooter riders pretty much everywhere in London these days? I doubt it, and they are more obvious.
  5. Some discussion here: https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/discovering-the-joy-of-electric-route-planning-app.38489/
  6. Even the BBC report url link for the guy's company at the time (Alta Supercaps !) now goes to a site promoting dodgy New Age Snake Oil Secret Knowledge type products that will change your like blah blah blah. The whole thing stinks (pun partially intended)
  7. That's deaths, I wonder what the relative risks of serious (eg life changing) injuries are for each mode and are they similar?
  8. It was prompted by over zealous use of Fixed Penalty Notices: The Home Office guidance was re-affirmed in 2014 by the then Cycling Minister Robert Goodwill, who agreed that the police should use discretion in enforcing the law and recommended that the matter be taken up with the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO). ACPO welcomed the renewed guidance, circulated it to all forces, and issued a statement referring to "discretion in taking a reasonable and proportionate approach, with safety being a guiding principle". To summarise, cycling on the pavement is still an offence, but there is clear guidance that the police are supposed to exercise discretion. And finally on pavements, remember that on segregated cycle tracks the pedestrian side remains a footway, so if you cycle into the pedestrian side to pass a pedestrian in the cycle lane you technically commit a pavement cycling offence. There's an anomaly because cyclists have to ride on their side, but pedestrians are only advised to use theirs. https://www.cyclinguk.org/article/whats-legal-and-whats-not-your-bike
  9. Well obviously that signpost was clearly moving towards you faster than you were riding so it was at fault .
  10. Certainly more available common batteries are better to have and replace but with unusual shapes isn't there at least the potential option to get the battery re-celled depending on what is inside?

  12. Lead acid battery anyone? Interesting attachment on the second bike.
