  1. I think its just one of those "just in case" scenarios. if you are driving and an incident occurs, such as a child running out in front of you, the adrenaline rush would send your blood pressure through the roof. Your heart would be hammering away as if you had run a mile, which doesn't really count as gentle exercise! I started driving after three weeks as I was going crazy indoors. Didn't do me any harm. I might have had problems with pain because I overdid things at first, my first walk was up a hill!
  2. I had a stent put in after an episode such as you described in 2002. I was 44. At first it feels like you'll never get better, as the pain doesn't always go away instantly. I was still getting twinges in the chest up to six months after the stent went in, and at first I was convinced it was blocked, but I had a wonderful cardiologist who explained that this was normal. A few years on and now I can walk up six floors without getting out of breath, can walk for miles and use the bike to get to work everyday. I still occasionaly get trollied on friday nights, and have an excellent quality of life! The occasional fried breakfast is still definitly on the cards, as is all the other naughty behaviour we all indulge in (except smoking!) After a recent MOT including another angiogram, my cardiologist has told me I can expect to make it to a ripe old age, and whatever does kill me, it probably won't be my heart! So lots of gentle exercise at first, follow the exercise program from the physioterrorists at the hospital, and before long you'll feel better than you have done for years, trust me on this! Good luck, and don't get rid of the bike just yet!
  3. My Alien GSII pulls me along at WAY more than 15 mph, and I weigh more than 21 stone!
  4. I think I see the problem. Looks like a small speck of something caught in the chainring.
  5. I actually like the way the pedelec system works on the Alien GSII, the only problem I have is changing up through the gears fast enough to keep up! Time to go the NRG route of a bigger chain set, methinks!
  6. Can't go wrong with a GS II, I've had mine for nearly a week and love it to bits, pulls like a train, even uphill. Only problem so far(apart from the standard squeaky brakes) was a loose stand. According to my cycle computer max speed so far with minimal pedal assist has been 22.4 mph, which is kinda scary if your a 21 stone fifty year old who hasn't ridden a bike for 25 years! For the price its an amazing piece of kit.
  7. Well, pulled the trigger today on the Alien, sent the payment and was amazed at how quickly Jim responded. Even managed to sort out some Alien panniers with him online, very impressed so far Now comes the waiting.........
  8. If global warmings real why am I so chuffin' cold!!!!! :D
  9. Greetings esteemed ones! Right, a bit of history. I have a blocked coronary artery, which means my heart only runs at about 80% efficiency, I'm 6'5" and weigh 138 kilos sopping wet out of the shower, and am fifty years young. Having recently changed jobs I now have a commute of a couple of miles along a towpath to get to work, and I am seriously considering purchasing an Alien gents special II to improve my already improving fitness, get to work a bit faster, and enjoy a few jaunts into the countryside. Is this a reasonable choice of bike? I've seen the website but will it actually be able to haul my not inconsiderable bulk along at a reasonable rate of knots without the bike or me collapsing into a big pile of scrap? Not scared of pedaling! I live in Maidstone and the terrain around here can be a bit lumpy. I really like the look of the bike, and it seems to tick all the boxes, especially with regards to price, as I am on a limited budget, is there anything else comparable out there for a similar cost? I've been hanging around the forum for weeks, but could definitely do with a little advice. Over to you! Steve.
  10. You have the Wisper bug. Resistance is futile!
  11. Right. My piggybank is going to be screaming by February, think i'll treat myself for my birthday!
  12. I'm curious about this too. As one of natures more generously endowed people, (read: Fat!) I also need info on which bike would be able to carry 140 Kgs and a 6'6" frame without collapsing into a big pile of scrap metal after the first mile. The closest I've seen so far was a Power Ranger, rated at 130 Kgs, any other ideas? Steve.
