Handlebars
I fitted Surly Sunrise bars to my bike to give a more upright riding position. Not exactly Dutch parallel but with a 15 degree sweep angle they are a comfortable bar and come with shims to fit a range of stem sizes.

Tongsheng TSDZ2 review and build tips.
Thanks 76zedfour hopefully loads more will have a go, the only trouble may be getting hold of the kits, which seem to be in short supply. The build, video filming and editing were a great distraction during the lockdown. The bars are surly sunrise and do give a more upright riding position, and the near 15 degree back sweep makes them comfortable for long rides but I fitted them as much for their cowhorn/ bmx retro look as much as anything

Advice Needed for Conversion Kit
You require sufficient clearance around the bottom bracket and chain stays or the motor casing will foul. I had to file away a small area of of the motor casing (1-2 mm In one of the locations where it is raised for the casing screw threads)for it to to fit flush against the frame. It’s possible to fit spacers, but this can affect the chain line, making some gears unusable. Its also possible that the chain ring could foul the chain stays if they flare out soon after leaving the bottom bracket. I studied my possible choices of mountain bike and chose one that had a lot of clearance for the chain ring. Like a lot of people who take on these projects I’m no bike mechanic, but figured how hard can it be. Forums such as this are a great source of help and inspiration.

Advice Needed for Conversion Kit
I would agree with Gavin on the Tongsheng TSZDZ as a great kit. I too chose this kit for the torque controlled pedal assist and the natural feeling it provides. The reliability has yet to be proven as I’ve covered only a hundred or so miles. As stated by others, fitment is hit or miss depending on the size and style of the bikes chain stays. I took a chance and was lucky. Details of my build can be seen @ Good luck with the build. Regards Iain

Where to buy TSDZ2 - and have i got the right items on my list.
I found that I had to add four links to the chain to get the correct length, when using an 11-42 cassette with the standard TSDZ2 42 tooth chainring.

Tongsheng TSDZ2 review and build tips.
Thanks for this excellent resource which I referred to during my own build. I too chose a bike with an 11-42 cassette for my first Ebike project but in my case I do use all the gears. There are some trail sections I can ride up now that I can’t on my whyte carbon hardtail. I’m so impressed with the Tongsheng kit and the pedal assist type drives, I’m already planning my next project. That will be adding the CYC X1 Pro Generation 2 drive to my 10kg Whyte C20 hardtail. Where to buy TSDZ2 - and have i got the right items on my list.
I bought the 48V 12AH TSDZ2 kit with throttle from Woosh and fitted it to a 2020 Kona Mahuna MTB. I didn’t use The brake levers as the Kona has hydraulic brakes, this hasn’t caused any issues in normal use but I understand the concerns regarding a throttle malfunction. In my case the levers came in handY. The motor spacers and securing screws were too short for the width of my bottom bracket, so I used the longer screws from the break levers , and cut down the break adjusters to use as spacers. I also had to get creative with the battery mount, due to small frame size. This meant I could no longer use the battery lock And I had some concerns about the battery bouncing off the electrical contacts. After more than 100 miles and some fairly rough trails I have had no issues and I am loving the conversion. unfortunately I have voided my warranty by removing the speed limit but I’m willing to take my chances and repair / replace component parts as and when required. A video of my build can be seen here; Many thanks to Woosh Bikes for supplying the kit which allowed me to build a quality electric bike at a bargain price
