  1. (about 60+ Km) I guess I can toss my bike. Maybe we could apply more downforce to the head. (other than a club) Humans Could Run 40 mph, in Theory - Yahoo! News
  2. This is what's offered at the Walmart (down the street from me) Walmart.com: I-Zip 2008 EZ Go Hybrid Electric Bicycle: Bikes, Scooters & Skates It's lead acid, but I'm not sure what similarities it may have with the other I-zip. Probably shape mostly. I've looked at it off and on, but it's only offered if I order it online from them, so I don't know what it looks like in person. It rains even less here than California. I would probably still at least wrap the wiring in a plastic sheeting and seal it off with zip ties if I owned one though.
  3. Ha, yes, that would be a fair description too. So, when I open it up it will either be fractured gear works or a tiny shed inside.
  4. Well, I'm down to the motor gears as the problem. The noise has increased to constant noisyrattley clunking -- parts slowly scrambling like eggs? And it's all kinds of unevenness rolling it backwards. Don't know as I'll get to it until February. I guess I'll be one of the few whose battery outlasted the new motor! In retrospect it might fit the symptoms. It begin with doing nothing but taking off, and as I said, I thought something broke and shot off from the bike at the time, but it could have been all internal and I was just fooled by a sound echo or something. So, is there any way other than fatigue that the gears can get misaligned internally and cause a early failure?
  5. Not true. Not true! Magazine > Image > Okay, maybe
  6. I agree you can go too far. But in both directions of over-control and under rather than just one way. Giving someone power to do something without checks and balances is no good whether investment bankers or government. Without law you can take on thugs by yourself -- with too much, the law officer may be clubbing you on the head for little reason.
  7. "Get into banking" Hah, that probably is the lesson! My biggest problem with too much deregulation -- as it seems (at least over in the U.S.), is not that it doesn't fail as the free marketers insist is the natural order to keep things in balance, but that it can (and has) failed massively pulling a whole bunch of people down a 1000 foot hole with it, to which it is difficult to crawl back out. This is like keeping the population immunitized from disease by letting plagues take their natural course and kill off a few million people. Yes, it works, I can't argue with that. But I don't prefer these wild swings of balance. Just keep things nudging left and right like balancing a bicycle!. You don't want to ride weaving wildly across the road back and forth, leaving as much to the natural order as possible by not steering much. Well, at least not me. A large vehicle will soon end my troubles following that course!
  8. A 5 connector is in a tiny plastic box on my bike on the fork along with 3 other wires that look like they are connected together with male female leads. I could not pull these 3 leads apart easily though, so I did not press to seperate them, and left them as is, for now. If I should need to check these too by disconnecting though, i'll go back and do it. I did disconnect the 5 way and reconnect. No difference though, after putting it back togther. It all seems really tight and in good condition in the box, as far as I can tell. I wanted to ask if I should be seeing a flashing LED code at start up? I get a steady light still when I turn it on. Also, is there any sure method for a diagnosing a broken gear besides disassembly? thanks! (I have not stripped the insulation away from the multiple small wires yet. I suppose I may reach the point of doing that if I don't find the fault soon)
  9. ...I think I meant to say it is constantly correcting, or not perfect usually -- not exactly what I put there. EDIT: as far as understanding complex things, I have to share a favorite quote I pulled from article about IBM building a computer model said to be smarter than a cat (some accomplishment eh?) ( i do not defend the truth of the quote, I just enjoy it)
  10. Also, I consider Flecc an expert in my not professional opinion, but that's because his indepth knowledge can be tested regularly (by me!)
  11. As a layman, non-scientist, non-expert, and not really able to comprehend the full complexity of the issue though I do keep reading more to understand more, I would argue from a logical viewpoint (as a non-expert) the most logical thing I can do (for the meantime) is concur with the larger group of experts over the smaller group. If this means, indeed, that my belief is akin to the belief that the Earth is flat or the Heavens revolve around the Earth, so be it. Science is always self-correcting, but generally, doesn't one go with the *"Expert" consensus if one has nothing better? And if not, why not? *I say expert with quotes -- I guess my own definition would be, what is your background education; have you studied in the field and what research have you done; can you reel off the counter arguments which you should know thoroughly as well as details of the researchers who hold various different opinions. For that matter, I expect you have probably worked with and debated other experts in your field of study, and have you footnoted all that in your own research that's relevant to the subject? ~ By the way, E-bike seemed like a good idea for practical means, that was my primary reason
  12. Hi Flecc, after looking at your wiring diagram: dagnostics ...and then looking at the bike, and the amount of insulation and number of connecting ties they added, I thought it might be best to come back and ask in what general location will I find the "five way connector" before I start cutting anything loose. Or perhaps, that is, it should be between what and what on the diagram? With the bike upside down, I don't see an obvious 5 way connector. EDIT:Okay, maybe I do see it if it's under the battery case -- but I'll wait till you respond just to make sure, because it still looks like I have to cut a bunch of stuff loose first. Thanks. (Hope I don't sound like too much of an idiot)
  13. Thanks Flecc. I'll start a look, and hope for anything but the last one of course.
  14. That started tonight. It definitely only occurs under power, not just when the wheel is spinning. I can't really tell anything different power-wise, just the noise. I've looked at it, and just can't see anything at all. Although, when I first took off tonight, it almost sounded like something shot off the bike. Looked around and couldn't find any parts, but that doesn't mean I didn't lose something, as I was in a busy parking lot at night, and really couldn't look thoroughly. I saw one thread about a hall sensor? What other things could it be, and what should I do, do you think? (I'm around 2500 miles on the motor give or take)
  15. I suppose if I had to guess, I will likely not see another 1000 miles on it, unless I absolutely baby it. 500 hundred maybe, would probably be more like it, I'm betting. And maybe not that.
  16. My Ezee Torq battery (10ah) has 2200 miles and 6 months on it. It's showing the effects now. I'm not really sure how fast it's going to deteriorate at this point or when it will really be pointless to continue with it. At the moment it's not really affecting my rides, I just am noticing the capacity is less and it needs charging sooner for the same distances. I have no idea how many charges it has taken. The NiMh on my Giant I made careful records, but then that one was almost always fully discharged and charged fully its whole life whereas this one rarely has experience full charges (maybe 12 times total). Er, about $1 (U.S.) per 5 miles of usage so far. but that's not counting electricity. This wouldn't put me off buying another, though i would like it all to be cheaper, for sure!

I shouldn't complain about poor conditions, as at least I don't have to put up with this: Cycling in Chinese city is anything but leisurely - Yahoo! News
  18. I don't know how many charges I have on my Ezee Li-poly, but I've racked up 1821.9 miles so far. (probably closer to 1900 as I've forgotten to attach my odometer every once in awhile)
  19. One of my disc brakes on the Torq 2 will lock up after sitting inside. There is an extreme temp outside/inside difference, which is the only thing I can come up with as to why it happens. It snaps loose everytime with a good squeeze, so far, so no problems. Just a bit of curiousity. Otherwise, the one big difference between these and what I'm used to, is these maintain their usefulness much longer without adjustment. Well, and they grab pretty hard too.
  20. Thanks James, the first one of those links I looked at, looked like the same equipment (whether it was exactly or not), and I was able to figure it out. (the adjustments up top near the control). Sometimes I might think of things like looking up the company online , but not this time, I guess.
  21. Hey! Well, I'm just over 800 miles now, and have put off derailleur adjustment, 'cause I couldn't find the info they sent me. (I figured it show up by now, but I don't know what black hole it disapeared into -- perhaps it went out with box packing is all I can think of.) Anyway, it's to the point that I can't let it go any longer. I see high low adjustment screws, but what is throwing me off is there is no simple barrel adjuster on this Shimano Nexave rapid rise derailleur, that I can see. I got a feeling it's going to be something easy??? Er, I tried to find something on youtube, but didn't see any things except more familiar derailleur adjustments featured. Help!
  22. I have 408 miles with my new Torq 2, and no flats. So maybe I'm due. Heck, though, I've used plain old tires and tubes here, and lucky to get a week on them. So, there's that.
  23. Even though I haven't done this myself, I figured it was pretty common removing broken key from lock - Google Search Something there will probably work for you. (hopefully)
  24. You must of conditioned your lungs!
  25. isoprophyl (rubbing) alcohol, canned air or air compressor, and a screwdriver works pretty good for getting off handle grips without damaging them so you can use them again.
