  1. Hi Dave, thanks so much for sharing this, I wasn’t able to open the link to the blog but am planning to also do the Velodyssee on an e-bike. I would be camping all the way, what were your experiences with charging or did you stay in accommodation where you could charge ? Thanks loads, Neil
  2. Hi all, as per the title my TSDZ2 has a sporadic fault where it stops allowing me to change the level of assist, and can't switch the VLCD6 off. The motor still works fine but is stuck on the that level of assist. If I turn the battery off and on again its OK and may work fine for a while or may quickly stop allowing me to change again. Any ideas?! Thanks all
  3. Hi all, hope you are well, the rocker switch on my battery is basically shot, I leave it on all the time as if I switch it off it can take 50 attempts of switching on and off to get it on. it’s no problem to just leave it on but slightly concerned that it could fail altogether at some point when I’m riding. I keep a repair kit with me so I’m wondering if it fails can I just cut the two white wires going into the switch and attach them with a connecting block. Should that keep the power flowing?! photo attached of the switch and wires. thanks all Neil
  4. Hi all, the switch on my battery is starting to play up and can take 3-4 times switching on and off before it turns on. couple of questions: - if I just leave it in all the time will the battery deplete much overnight or during the day when not in use, I use it every day for a commute. - can the connection the switch provides continue to degrade even if I just leave it on, I don’t know much about electrics so wondering if the connection the switch provides can still degrade if you aren’t switching it on and off? Is there a danger the bike could die on me when cycling at some point! i hope that all makes sense and any help would be fantastic. many thanks Neil
  5. Hi all, I hope you are well, I've had a TSDZ2 for a few years on an old Trek mountain bike, I use it daily for a 16 mile round trip commute, sometimes pulling a trailer weighing about 20kg. The commute is flat all the way, mainly on a canal path, I'm thinking of changing the donor bike as I would like disc brakes and maybe larger wheels. There are lots of good second hand hybrids out there, a Cannondale quick cx has come up cheap as the crank needs replacing which would obviously be ideal. Couple of questions if people don't mind: 1 - would I notice much difference between 26" and 700c wheels? I currently run fairly skinny tyres on the bike and generally ride at about 20mph all the way. I'm therefore wondering if I would notice any difference in speed, battery consumption or riding experience with bigger wheels? 2 - The Cannondale quick has the cables under the BB as per the attached photo, would I be able to remove the guide and let the cables run between BB and Motor? Any input on either of those would be great, thanks all!
  6. Hi all, I hope you are well, I converted an old MTB with a TSDZ2 some years ago, use it every day and love it etc. I was thinking about upgrading the donor bike to something with disc brakes and maybe 700c wheels. However all recent hybrid bikes seem to have the cables for rear brake and gears going into the downtube at the top then appearing out the bottom and under the bottom bracket. When I did the first conversion and was looking for a donor bike it was an even(ish!) split between bikes with rear cables on the top tube and those that went under bottom bracket so there was some choice regarding bikes you could use. Could this be a problem moving forward in that it seems really hard to get decent bikes to use as a donor without cables running under the BB? I know some people have re-routed them but this seems fairly technical! Any thoughts appreciated Many thanks Neil
  7. richtea and nealth, thanks so much for your input, I put in a new blade fuse holder and its working fine now, thanks again
  8. hi all, my TSDZ2 set up has had an increasingly common issue with losing power, it fixes if I wiggle the wires coming out of the battery mount. On closer inspection the issue is one of the wires that comes out of the blade fuse, because of how the fuse sits the wire comes out a 90 degree angle and is pushed up against the side of the housing, I think I have damaged it when I put the bike on top of the car and tightened the arm to hold it in place on the wire and probably put too much strain on it. I'm wondering how important the blade fuse is, I've never heard of one blowing so wondering if the chances of needing one is slim? If this is the case, or if a need a quick fix to get me home, could I just cut it out and re-join the wires with a connector? Many thanks
  9. Hi all, I was cycling today and the pedal fell off! The thread is completely gone on the crank arm where the pedal screws in, worth noting I have done thousands of miles on the bike and love it so not a complaint about quality. Can I use any crank arm to replace it or does it need to to have a sloght curve in it to clear the motor? Thanks!
  10. Hi all, after browsing the web there seems to be different opinions on the best way to prolong the life of your battery. The two main schools of thought are to either keep it between about 40% & 80% or ensure you always charge to full to 'top off' the batteries. I commute about 16 miles per day on a TSDZ2 using levels 3 and 4, any thoughts on whether I should give a couple of hours charging each day or a full 8 hour charge every 4 or so days? Many thanks Neil
  11. Nealh, the grease worked like a charm ,all fine now, thanks so much for the tip
  12. Thanks Nealh, no I didn't, however I just ordered some red and tacky grease so will try that. thanks again Neil
  13. Hi all, any idea what I could have done wrong when changing the blue gear to mean the motor whines really loudly now?! many thanks Neil
  14. Hi all, I am looking to put a 50t chainring on a tsdz2, will I need a longer chain, I won't need the biggest 3 cogs on the back if that matters? many thanks
  15. Hi all, so I have a TSDZ2 on a mountain bike, 750w, and its all good, love it. I converted the bike so I could put some equipment in a trailer and cycle 7 miles to the beach to go kitesurfing. However I have just got another job which is 8 miles away, mainly flat and I want to cycle the commute. My current set up will cruise along happily at 20mph, however it would be great to get that up to 25mph for the daily commute. I want to stick with the TSDZ2, currently I am at max RPM to get 20mph therefore I am wondering if a road bike would be faster at the same RPM as it has bigger wheels, I saw this table on endless sphere: My maths is poor but I think according to this table, for the same RPM, I would only get about 5% more speed having 700c wheels instead of 26inch, is that right?! Therefore my questions are: 1 - is my maths right or would bigger wheels make more of a difference then 5%? 2 - would changing the front cog from a 42t to a 44t give me 5 more MPH? 3 - would a road bike being any other advantages to speed if at mak rpm? 4 - any other tips or should I just leave 5 mins earlier and stop worrying about it?!
  16. Hi all, I converted a bike using the tongsheng and it was amazing, did what I needed to do which was allow me to cycle 7.5m to the beach with a trailer full of equipment. However my parents came to visit on the weekend on my step dad tried it couldn't believe it, he thought his cycling days were years behind him so he has taken it home! I was planning on ordering another motor and battery immediately and converting another one for me now, however just before I hit buy on paypal I thought is it worth waiting until next year, a few factors at play: 1 - I won't use it much at all over the winter so no problem to wait, is it a waste to have a battery sitting doing nothing over the winter or do they not degrade if not being used and stored in a cool place anyway? 2 - this is the main factor, is there a new chance companies will release new models in 2021 so its worth waiting, any idea if anything is in the pipeline? 3 - A further factor is that I buy from pswpower, currently no tax from Germany to UK, however as the UK leaves the EU I might well be stuck with 20% VAT after 1st Jan 2021 so it might be worth buying now unless something epic could be coming out next year. It is all a bit hypothetical but any thoughts on what you would do in my shoes would be great!
  17. thanks all, the batteries are: http://www.pswpower.com/ven.php?cargo.2017-7m-d4mx http://www.pswpower.com/ven.php?cargo.2018-52-c8sc sad to see the quality of the tsdz2 seems to have dipped, I brought one recently and loved it, however my parents came to visit and my step dad, who thought his cycling years were well behind him, tried it and loved it so I have given that one to him and looking to do another one for me. its so tricky as you find tales of woe with both bafangs and tongsheng, seems to be the luck of the draw as to what you get? thanks again for the advice
  18. Hi folks, I am looking at two batteries for a tsdz2, one has a continous discharge current of 30a and one of 25a, will this effect the power of the motor at all? thanks!
  19. no you can adjust the top speed to 45kph.
  20. amazing, thanks all. Just got back from a ride and went for higher cadence and it made a real difference, thanks so much for the advice, the motor was warm to touch but not hot. Im terms of damage through overheating is the damage done as soon as it hits too high a temperature or does it need to run for a period of time at the high temperature to cause damage?
  21. Again many many thanks to all. Peter is there any indication you can give of when hot becomes too hot! If I can hold my hand on the CASING without risk of burning myself is that OK? About to go now to try higher cadence! Thanks again!
  22. hi all, apologies second post from me in one day! so I have the tongsheng TSDZ2, 48v 500w with a 48v 17.5ah battery. I am using it to pull a kids bike trailer fairly full of watersports equipment, it probably weighs about 25kg in cluding the trailer, I need it on the highest level of assist at all times. If I really push it and do about 20mph on the flat the motor is getting hot, I can touch the outside of the casing but it is bordering on too hot to touch, must be about 40 degrees. I appreciate there is a point at which these motors overheat but wondering what that point is? My usual ride takes about 30mins. Any advice as to whether I am heading for a disaster or if this level of heat is OK would be fantastic. Many thanks Neil
  23. amazing thanks vfr400, it was a 13t so loaded up the trailer and popped to my bike shop who changed the cassette and chain and it is now better, reaching 20 - 22mph with a fully loaded trailder, only concern now is if the motor is gettting too hot, will starrt another thread for that! thanks again, great help, really appreciate your time
  24. amazing thanks, small one is (i think) 12 and front one is 42. thanks!
