  1. Himo Z20 might be worth you having a look at as well. As I have posted on another thread my neighbours bought a couple earlier in the year and having had a look at them they seem pretty well specced for the money. They've been pleased and have no issues so far .
  2. What about having a look at the Fiido D4S 20" wheel folder at around £700 on Amazon (or better the Fiido D11 although thats just under the £1000). Also there is the Himo Z20 folder at around £800. My neighbours (both in their 60s) bought a couple and have been very pleased with them and have put a far few miles on them. Seem pretty well specced for the money
  3. Have a look at the Ampere Tourer S (looks great in the Teal colour) or if you want a full stepthrough the Ampere Deluxe. We've just bought the Tourer and Tourer S from the EcoBikeCo and had great service from Jarred. Seem to be good spec bikes for the money. Weigh around 22kg incl battery so not too heavy for Hybrid with front fork suspension, full mudguards and rear rack. The standard model has a 10.6 amp hour battery and costs around £1250. We went for the bigger 16ah ones to give us longer (or be lazy and use more assist lol) plus the LCD controller upgrade (cost £1450). Haven't given them a full run out yet due to weather and illness but I'm happy with my Tourer so far based on a quick 4 mile trip (at an average of 12mph...far quicker than I'd have done it on my manual bike).
  4. Just had email saying that NCM Moscow in both black and white are back in stock if anyone's been waiting
  5. Fitted the Doobacks at the weekend...certainly makes a big difference being able to see a decently wide view behind me. Very pleased with them so thanks for the heads up Pentium (or whatever you seem to be being called now....what did i miss???)
  6. For a bit of info my neighbours have just bought themselves a couple of Himo Z20's (they got them via Amazon in case of any issues). They are very pleased with them and find them comfortable, especially as the 20" wheels and fairly wide chunky tyres help minimise the bumps in the roads. Their main concern is the weight ((20/21kg) as they are too heavy for the wife to manhandle when folded which could limit some of their intended uses. I had a quick look over them yesterday and they look a decent spec for the money (10ah battery, mech discs, neat internal battery housing, easy folding) and look quite stylish and well made. I suspect, however, that they may not be strictly legal as pedal assist only operates in Eco mode (and assist only up to 15kph) and then you have to use the twist grip throttle to utilise mid and high assist (and no need to turn the pedals). A YouTube review i came across suggests that the battery only lasts 25km using throttle only (which doesn't seem great for a 10ah battery on a 36v system) and the assist even on high topped out at only 20 kph, but it looked as if it was quite hilly so that might have been a factor. My neighbours have only done a couple of flattish 8km rides but said that they only lost 1 of the 5 bars each time so hopefully for their sake that review was inaccurate, otherwise I fear they'll be disappointed with the range.
  7. This thread seems to be getting a bit risqué with me talking about lube and you mentioning washing up liquid helping insertion . Ooooh Matron
  8. Just ordered 2 Dooback2s for our bikes from Fawkes Cycles for £7.65 each. Added in some lube and glueless puncture repair patches, both of which I need anyway, to bring it just over £20 and so qualify for free postage. Hope the mirrors are as good as Pentium says.
  9. Apologies to whoever posted it originally. Still pay it forward is always good
  10. Kendo Nagasaki....now that's a memory. Good ol days of Sat afternoon wrestling with Kent Walton and the pantomime wrestling of Mick McManus, Jackie Pallo, Les Kellett, The Royale Brothers (the only ones that looked like they might be fit enough to be proper wrestlers), Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks.
  11. It does seem that you can take out Bike Insurance as a separate product without having to have their home or buildings products...odd I know. "Choose from our range of independent, specialised covers that you can add to your policy any time. Enjoy a multi-cover discount – the more covers you get, the bigger the discount on your premium. You don’t need to have buildings or contents cover – all our covers are independent and can be bought separately (except gadget cover, which is only available with one of our contents covers)." I'm just curious who's used it and whether it is as good as it seems on the face of it and confirmation that it is definitely a standalone product. https://www.barclays.co.uk/insurance/home-insurance/bike-insurance/ Amongst the cover items are: Worldwide Cover for your Bikes (including electrically assisted ones: Insure your most expensive bike against theft or damage, from £250 up to £5,000, and all others at your address will be covered up to this value. Public Liability Insurance: Protection against significant expense if you have an accident. We’ll pay up to £5 million to cover your legal liabilities if you have to pay damages or claimant’s costs and expenses for: Accidental bodily injury or illness Death Disease Accidental damage to someone's property Replacement bike hire in case theft or damage means you can't use your bike Choose your own excess from £50 to £200 Main condition is following (which is pretty standard I think) Theft, unless the bike is in your immediate possession and control, securely locked to an object that can’t be moved or in a locked building PS Thanks need to go to sneggysteve who flagged this up earlier in this thread and without whom I'd have probably never come across it.
  12. Anybody come across any issues with the Barclays bike insurance. It just seems remarkable value given you can take it out without having a main home policy and that it covers TPL as well. £20 for both our bikes vs £110-130plus with the usual standalone ebike insurers. Just surprised it doesn't come up on sites like MoneySavingExpert and in articles about cheap bike insurance.
  13. Thanks. And the bikes arrived this afternoon so I guess my job tomorrow is setting them up ready for our test ride
  14. Hi Flec Please add me (and my wife) at BH25 5QR (although still not e-bikers quite yet as waiting for them to arrive hopefully in next few days, which would be good seeing as it's warming up next week and the pubs will be open ). Thanks
  15. Now we've ordered ours, I can see that ecobikecompany still have a couple in stock you might want to have a look at the Ampere Tourer with 16ah battery as this should have the range you're looking for and has a pretty good spec for the money.
  16. Just to update. Would have gone with Woosh Santana CD but unfortunately by the time I finished prevaricating they had nothing left. So have plumped for the Ampere Tourer & Tourer S with the 16ah batteries. Just managed to get some of the last ones through Ecobikecompany with LCD display upgrades thrown in for free thanks to the very helpful Jarrad. Should be arriving next week so will post up first impressions once we've tried them out.
  17. Thanks for review. Good to know you're pleased with them. I was looking at these earlier on BikeInn. They are cheaper at £7.99 each there but the £7.49 postage is the downer, unless ordering a few more items at the same time.
  18. Just for info I spoke to Woosh this week and Hatti said they had no stock of anything ( not even Santana CDs ...which by the way they said they are not going to do anymore if I understood it correctly) and all the expected stocks over next 4-5 months is already preordered and taken. Which is a shame as their bikes are very good value.
  19. In the "not too ludicrous" price range the Suntour SP12 NCX at around £52 seems to get a lot of praise from various reviews from differing categories and weights of bike riders that I've seen (no direct experience of it myself though).
  20. Thanks. Ages are 64 (me) and 62 (wife). I can still get on a crossbar bike pref with a slighter lower step over height that my current straight across crossbar , wife prefers a step through or (veryj low trapeze crossbar. Would probably be looking to keep them at 2 to 3 years to see how much we use them and then , finances allowing, might be looking at higher spec ones if we get hooked. Hence why I'm trying to keep budget down but without comprising excessively eg not going for too small a battery / mileage and then regretting not being able to go far enough (given that replacing battery, if even poss, with higher capacity would likely be considerably more expensive than the initial increase of getting the higher capacity battery at outset).
  21. Looking for first ebikes for my wife and me. I'm 6ft (183cm) 75kg, she's 5'6" (168cm) and around 80kg (bit of a guess but I'm not brave enough to ask ). Would like to try and keep cost of each to below £1500. Pref range in order of 40miles plus (no steep hills around here in our part of New Forest) with a mix of country roads and forest / gravel trails. Therefore I've been looking at the following: Apache Matta E6 2020 from Rutland for the wife at £1299. Specs and styling look OK for the money - 36v / 468wh, hydraulic disc brakes, front suspension (admittedly Suntour NEX 63cm), 18" frame, not too heavy 21kg. (No bigger frame/crossbar version of the E6 available for me - Apache Matta E7 2021 has similar specs and 19" or 21" frame but no availability date yet) Ampere Tourer / Tourer S for both of us. Either 10.4ah/375wh at £1249 (prob not big enough battery?) or 16ah/576wh at £1449. Very similar spec to Apache (hydraulic discs, Suntour NEX, 20kg. Might prefer the Ampere Explorer MTB for me...same pricing and spec but with Suntour XCT 100mm forks and slightly lighter at 19kg. Anybody have any experience/knowledge of either of these brands and/or bikes? Also on list are - NCM Milano Plus good specs but price (£1599) and weight (28kg ) are concerns, along with after sales support. Ezego Commute INT 2020. Cheaper at £1199 but only 400wh battery and no suspension. I like styling but wife not so keen on height of crossbar even the sloped one in the 15" frame. Have looked at Woosh (Camino for me, Santana 3 for wife) but lead times are against. Santana CD for both of us is a possibility as in stock and very good value but not sure whether the crank drive would suit (and also they are pretty fugly). Any views /input on these choices (or other suggestions in that budget range..Oxygen possibly?) gratefully received as starting to suffer from analysis paralysis.... Thanks in advice
  22. Anybody got any experience or knowledge of Ampere Tourer/Tourer S (or even Ampere Deluxe) ebikes please? Looking for one for me and one for wife (I'm 6ft 75kg, she's 5'6" and probably (not brave enough to ask!) nearer 80kg) The specs look pretty good to me including hydraulic brakes, front suspension (yes I know it's low end Suntour but hopefully better than none) and fairly lightweight (20 kg quoted). Plus you can get a 16ah battery on the Tourer for £1449 so as it's 36volt thats 576wh so,at say 15wh per mile, that's around 40 miles which is fine. Big plus...they are in stock. The alternatives I've been looking at are the 1) NCM Milano Plus at £1599. 48v and 764wh so better battery/motor, suspension seat posts, better Acera gears and better LCD display but 27kg rather than 20kg so quite a lot heavier 2) Ezego Commute INT @ £1199 but mech disks, no suspension, 36v / 400wh battery so more limited range (plus wife not keen on height or crossbar even the sloped one on the 15" frame). However to me it's a neater design and still only 20kg. Other thoughts include the Oxygen S Cross II Much as the Woosh ones look good the lead times are ruling them out at the moment (unless we both go for Santana CDs which are very good value but not so 'attractive' plus not so sure how the wife would get on with the crank drive ) Any input gratefully received.
  23. Tesco Home Insurance appears to exclude bicycles with any form of motorised assistance from the third party liability section but doesn't seem to exclude those from the optional bicycle cover (and given most e-bikes are over the value that needs to be identified and declared separately then I guess they couldn't wheedle out if so declared). I've been working on the assumption that specialist bike insurance would be a better option anyway as it would have better coverage incl third party and any claim wouldn't incur the home insurance excess and potential reduction in NCDs for several years. What's the views on home insurance vs separate bicycle insurance policy?
  24. Like the look of the INT. Have been looking at the EX as slightly cheaper but I do prefer the clean lines of the integrated battery on the INT. Whats it like over rougher terrain, poor roads etc with not having any suspension?
