Carrera Crossfire - 2017Cut out issues fixed?
Hi I’m looking st the crossfire carrera as a possible bike. I see that there were issues with cut outs in the net around 2017. Wondering if anyone knows whether the current model has similar issues? Thanks Neil

Ezee Torq for sale £200
Bought a year and a half ago for £330 (second hand) in very good condition. Still in very good condition. The old battery that came on the bike is completely run down now, hence the price but I can include the used battery too for spares etc. Worked flawlessly all the time I used it and never let me down. The only issue is that the front light isn't working. I don't have the same need of it now and need to make some space for house move. Comes with a set of panniers, manual, charger, pump. I am based in Redruth, Cornwall so if you're local you can pick up, but otherwise I will send via parsley freight which will cost you £25. you can email me on neil_butler (@) o2.co.uk for more info.

it works! thanks all. just been out on the bike. it made me realise what a resource this forum is. without it i probably would not have considered buying a second hand e-bike and may have gone for a motorbike instead.

sudden battery death or charger malfunction
ok. after a bit more net digging found that it probably is the fuse and it's safe to take out so i took it out and lo and behold the wire inside the fuse is broken and the continuity test does nothing. will try to find a replacement fuse and report back. fingers crossed!

is the fuse inside the black contraption on the far right with orange wires coming in and out of it? there's an orange plastic thing inside it. is this the fuse?

sudden battery death or charger malfunction
testing the charging socket in pairs on DC200 i get no read out. testing the battery connectors on the bottom of the battery i get a read out of 28.5. doing a continuity test between the charging socket and the bottom of the battery i only get a read out between pin number 1 in charging socket and one of the battery connectors (the one towards the back of the battery). that other thread looks handy. btw, thanks for everyone's help so far! :-)

sudden battery death or charger malfunction
the 41.6V was the reading from the charger with the multimeter on the prongs on the lead; not the battery. the bike was working fine up until this point. I was riding the battery to within it's limits quite frequently though i think. the last time i used it i got about 200 yards up the road (from what i thought was a normal charge) and it cut out. the fault is that the charger charges the battery for about one minute and then stops. the light goes from orange (charging) to green (charged/disconnect). you can tell that it's stopped working because the fan on the charger stops whirring. as far as i can see the wiring looks sound (although I am no expert). i will check again whether there is any life at all on the bike.

sudden battery death or charger malfunction
opened the case up as much as i can without unfixing the wires to the 3 pronged input (can you tell i'm no engineer?!) but i can't see any internal fuse. sounds like it will have to be plan b then...

sudden battery death or charger malfunction
i've done it....tentatively and nervously......and i'm still alive it measured 41.6. that's over 36V. i assume that's within tolerances?

sudden battery death or charger malfunction
the fuses check out ok. i checked the one on the charger too. after about one minute of charging the light goes to green as if it is fully charged (I know it's not!) and the fan on the charger stops whirring.

i didn;t know you could reuse the case. that might save a few bob. my diy skills aren't that hot though....always keen to have a go at things though.

Thanks so much Jerry. i will try the multimeter when I get home. I will also look at the link for a replacement battery when I get home (it is filtered at work for some reason!)

I have a multimeter test kit. never used it before though. good opportunity innit?

well, i unscrewed it and i can see the fuse through the glass tube. if the fuse is blown i assume it would look snapped? i think it looked ok. i will take a closer look at it later though.

sudden battery death or charger malfunction
Hello all I've got an Ezee Torq (great bike btw) which I bought second hand. The battery was a couple of years old when I bought it and I was using it a lot over the summer that I've had it (16 miles a day with a couple of steep cornish cove roads thrown in). One day it suddenly stopped being able to charge. When I plug it in the charging light will come on the charger but then after approx one minute the charged light will display on the charger. Do batteries suffer this sort of sudden death syndrome? or could it perhaps be a problem with my charger? There is still a bit of battery left in it for local trips etc so I want to put off the outrageous £500 replacement cost for a little bit. Any thoughts or help much appreciated. Cheers Neil

UK: worse condition roads in the world?
when you've been on a nepalese bus in the rain and watched as the bus slides ominously towards a cavernous drop...and the locals are so scared they're throwing up out the window.....and the bus is so close to the edge that the vomit is not landing on the road but is dissapearing down the side of the mountain..... that's when you start to think that any sort of tarmac is luxury!

Likely to need a new eZee battery
i bought an ezee torq last month off ebay. i did worry that the battery might be dreadful but as the guy said the battery was approx two years old (bike is from 2006) and has not seen a huge amount of use i took a pop at it. Yesterday I got 14 miles out of it (at reasonably low throttle) in fairly hilly conditions (talking cornwall here). In fact yesterday I got from truro to portreath in 45 minutes. I was stunned and felt bionic! quite good performance but i would like to be able to go both ways without recharging; although recharging in the pub whist reading tolkein wasn;t so bad!) however i didn;t realise that new batteries were quite so expensive when i bought it and had a bit of a shock when i logged on to onbike to get a replacement. prices seem to have shot up since last year when i was first looking for ebikes. the double battery option is quite interesting but i'm not sure if it's a good idea to couple the rack battery with an ageing main battery? once that main battery is run down i would in essence be powering from the rack battery, which is a smaller battery i believe. any thoughts here would be appreciated. it seems like my best option is to make the most of this battery first; i can get most places i need to (only one way though) and nearly all of these are within spitting distance to a train station anyway. and when i've well and truly pummeled it, then buy a new battery. @dbcohen i think if you like the bike and feel comfortable riding it then i reckon that's a more important factor than a few hundred quid here and there as you'll get more use out of it in the long term. i tried out most of the bikes on the market and found that the ezee torq just felt like the right fit to me comfort-wise. With all bikes, over time what with all all the wheel, gear replacements you will at some point think 'hang on why don;t i just buy a new bike?!'. however, you have to remember that the new bike will also run into exactly the same issues in a few years as components fail with wear and tear. And the battery will need replacing in a couple of years too; so you'll be in a similar position to now if battery prices remain this high. And there are more issues than just economics. Old bikes are less likely to be nicked and there's also the environmental issues of disposal and new manufacture.

Wisper 906 Alpino first impressions
so how does a more powerful controller make for a more powerful bike? i would have thought that the power comes only from the battery and motor, with the controller just providng 'instructions'.

both these factors have put me off quite a lot. it's quite a shame really because it's a great ride.

Prices all very similar?
