  1. Hi Rob I had a problem with the motor my King cutting out and eventually stopping altogether. I spoke to Bob at P&D Cycles in Bletchley who advised checking the connections in the controller, when I looked inside the box one of the connectors had completely come apart. There are five "bullet" type connectors, two for battery power and three for the motor, I pushed mine together with pliers. I would check these first. I hope that this helps.
  2. I have run the battery flat on my King, it has got the equivalent of a Vauxhall fuel guage! I had covered 60 miles when the indicator suddenly dropped from 5 bars to one I then managed another two miles. lost power completely and the display went off. I am unable to give a true indication of the range because I have used it at varying power levels and riding above the cut off speed for a considerable amount of time. Charged it overnight and all seems fine. Hopefully, I will be in a position to give a full review after a couple of weeks of commuting.
  3. The motor seems to have a connector part way along the swinging arm but it is encased in one of those heat shrink rubber protective sleeves and I did not want to cut that off to find out. The reason that I wanted to remove the wheel to replace the tube is that I had not previously encountered double rims and I did not feel confident that I would be able to complete the job sucessfully. Having now changed the tube with the wheel in situ and knowing that it has to be done this way in the future I am sure that I will be able to do it at the roadside should the need arise, hopefully that won't be for a long time yet.
  4. Or vica versa. This one's for you Brian! It's Sunday morning and I have had chance to 'play'. With the main battery switched on and the display active press and hold the "Down" key for approximately 10 seconds. The display will change to a flashing wheel symbol in the bottom left and will indicate either kmh or mph in the top right. Press the down arrow once to change the value and then the "Set" key to keep the change. The KMs that you have already accumulated will now be displayed as miles. To change or amend the circumference figures, press and hold the "Set" key for approximately 10 seconds. The display will change to the wheel size in inches at the top and the circumference in centimetres at the bottom. Use the "Up" & "Down" arrow keys to change the values (the wheel size changes with the circumference) then press "Set" to keep the changes. Happy 'fiddling' fellow Kudos owners.
  5. Hi Alan I used that title more to highlight the lack of rim tape than the inability to disconnect the electrics to the motor although the latter did make the tube change rather difficult! I am a bit out of touch with cycling having only got back into it as recently as 6 months ago but the general consensus around the internet seems to be that rim tape should be used.
  6. I have held off with this post as I have sent a PM to Dave at Kudos but he does not seem to be around at he moment since I have not received a response at the time of writing. On the way home from work on Thursday evening I suffered with my first puncture in over 1000 miles of commuting and of course it was in the rear tyre. It is not the fact that I got a puncture in a new tyre after only 70KMs that has prompted me to post, it could happen at any time. No, what's got my goat is that I could not see a way to completely remove the wheel since I was unable to disconnect the electic cable to the motor, also the tube was holed on the inside where there is no rim tape. I haven't changed a tyre in years and they are different now with the double rim, I had to hope that I did not nick the tube when fitting it with the wheel in situ. I ran insulating tape around the rim as I do not have any tape and all was fine for my Friday commute. I have asked Dave whether it is possible to disconnect the motor to facilitate the removal of the back wheel also if the absence of rim tape is normal or an oversight in this instance. I wanted to share my experience with other owners who may want to check their own bikes and take any remedial action that they feel necessary. I hope that this information helps somebody else and prevents an unwelcome flat.
  7. Hi, I am 6ft 1in and I asked Dave at Kudos the same question a few weeks ago. I have my saddle set to 42 inches from the ground, he set the saddle at this height (as I have now) and he informed me that there was still plenty of seat tube left in the frame for safety. I think that if I am perfectly honest a larger frame would have suited me better as the bars would probably be higher. This one is OK but I am considering fitting a stem riser at some stage. I have also cracked the problem of limited assistance, it has 5 power levels and I was only using 3 as quoted in the handbook. My ride home this evening was great, I was able to maintain 24.5 kmh quite easily despite the persistant headwind. BTW I weight just over 90 Kg. I hope that this helps.
  8. Lunchtime, and my new bike has arrived at work. OK, lets get it out of the box and start the unwrapping and assembly process. First objective find the charger and keys, get the battery off the bike and charge it ready for the 6.5 mile ride home. Ah, have an issue with charging, the mains lead has a continental plug and no sign of a UK three pin lead. It is not a standard kettle fitting so I could not nick one from one of the computers that were not being used. I did however, manage to fing a spare lead and "borrow" the plug, cut the continental plug off the new lead and fit the three pin plug. Yeh, charger working. The bike was well packaged with all vunerable parts protected. Assembly required the handle bars, peddles an front wheel to be fitted and the seat to be set at the required height. Front whl wa easily sorted using the quick release skewer. handle bars next, oh another issue none of the supplied allen keys fit the hex bolts on the stem. Luckily, there is one the correct size in the tool kit at work, problem solved. Once I had the front brake cable in the right place the handle bars went straight on. Peddles next, easy, tightened with on of the supplied spanners and I even remembered "left hand thread left side". Next adjust the seat and inflate the tyres (keep a pump in my bag) quick check over everything else and then a short ride around the warehouse. It feels great to ride unpowered so much better than my £100 full suspension MTB but I have to go back to work. Home time, quick read of the instructions, fit the battery and off we go. It would not be fair to give an opinion on the merits or otherwise at this early stage since I have never ridden an E-bike before but unpowered it is easier to ride than my old bike. I did feel that it was not giving me any assistance at all and I arrived home soaked in sweat as usual. I then took it out this evening and discovered that it was my riding style that was at fault and not the bike, Phew! I am used to peddling hard, getting up to speed as fast as possible and then working hard to maintain that speed. What I need to do is to peddle less vigorously in a higher gear and let the motor do some of the work. I fully intend to use this bike for my daily commute which includes a couple of moderate hills and several stretches where I am often subjected to head winds. I will use it for a few weeks and then post an update.
  9. I too have ordered a King, it should arrive Friday or Monday. I hope that it is Monday, wouldn't want to be enjoying myself on my first e-bike over the weekend lol.
  10. I think that would look great Dave...............when can I get one? Seriously, I think that steel blue would look good.
  11. Looks like this is the gents version priced at £599.99 plus £25 carriage. Edit: May have been a bit too quick off the mark......the description states ladies step through frame!
  12. We trialed DHL for three months over last Christmas and noticed a considerable increase in damages compared to City Link. When we questioned this we were told that it was due to items "falling off of the end of conveyor belts at the hub". Northampton's main hub is Hatfield but some consignments were routed through both Hatfield and the Midlands.
  13. I work for a company that ships in excess of 100 consignments a day by parcel carrier. The products include cleaning chemicals, paper products and glassware. Protective packaging is paramount as there seems to be an accepted inevitability that damage will occur when using parcel carriers. The company that we use is City Link, not the cheapest but they are reliable and damage is minimal. City Link use a cage system to transfer parcels between depots whereas others such as DHL and UPS "handball" the items on and off the trunking trailers thus increasing the handling and the likelyhood of damage. There are other factors to take into consideration such as response to queries (City Link are not very good at this) local depot proximity and Island/Highland charges. At the end of the day they all offer a similar service and it may well be that you will need to trial several until you settle upon one that best meets you needs.
  14. They are in the process of switching sites. The new site is not yet ready but this is the link
  15. I have just noticed that the replacement for the Sunlova E-8F26M03S MTB is available to pre-order on ebay. 8FUN BIKE 26M03S There appears to be two main differences between the old model and the new. Water bottle battery instead of little frog reduced from 10ah to 9ah and a 18" frame instead of 21". Make that three main differences the new model is more expensive than the old. The delivery indication is that these bikes will ship soon after 7th May.
