Kudos Arriba 25MPH ;-)
I have finally bought my new bike, a Kudos Arriba. I was undecided between the Arriba and the Tornado but the hydraulic brakes and torque sensor swung it for me. The one aspect of the bike I did not like was the 15MPH power cut off, whilst I understand the legality of this limit I found it annoying to ride -15MPH was my natural cruising speed and it kept cutting in/out at that speed. I asked the Kudos guys if I could overcome this cutoff and they were very evasive about answers, but the smiles suggested it was possible. I must say that despite much pressure they would not tell me how to do it. I did think about buying a dongle but they don't make one for the Kudos bikes. However, after some button pressing and Internet searching the solution was actually very simple. So, this is how you do it to get the limit up to 40KMH (about 25MPH). Press the "Up & Down" buttons together at the same time until the settings menu appears. Then Press the middle "Mode" button until you get the speed setting (twice for my Arriba). Then Use the "Up" button to raise the speed to maximum 40KMH. Then Press and hold the middle "mode" button to close the settings menu. Voila, your bike is now capable of the new speed that you just set! Actually I ride the bike mostly still about 15-17MPH but the new cutoff speed means that it never cuts in/out.

Has anybody actually asked Kudos if the warranty can be transferred?

sports direct
Shop with great care in Sports Direct, I saw the following on another forum:- Purchased a pair of running trousers in Sports Direct, got home and they are too tight. Took them back but they have no stock of the next size up. I asked for a refund. They said no, that I could only have a credit by way of vouchers. So ok, I will take vouchers and give them as a gift to somebody else to use. Total was £16.99 so I said ok if I give you a further £3.01 can you issue a gift voucher for £20.00? Answer was NOPE!!! SO they wouldn't even allow me to give them MORE money, weirdos! The assistant was rude, abrupt and generally very unhelpful. I had a look on the receipt and it states:- "We are happy to offer an exchange or gift voucher for any unwanted items returned within 28 days of purchase. Items must be returned in their original packaging, in a saleable condition and with receipt". "Refunds will only be offered in accordance with your statutory rights (which remain unaffected)". So am I not allowed a refund or what? I tried to look online but its all legal jargon to me, does anybody here know?

cycle computer apps?
Endomondo | Community based on free GPS tracking of sports available on iPhone, Android & Windows phones. Strava | Running and Cycling GPS Tracker, Performance Analytics, Maps, Clubs and Competition available on iPhone and Android only, no Windows phone app. (a mistake by Strava I think). The only two worth considering.

Kudos Arriba, Changing Cut Off Speed
I am about to buy a Kudos Arriba bike, I tested it at Redbridge and thought it ideal for my use. I remember somebody saying in past postings it is possible to 'hack' into either the king meter display or controller to get rid of the 15mph cut off. 20mph would be ok, but 15mph is my normal riding speed. Is it easy to change the cut off speed?

Is it time to empty Euro bank accounts?
Zebb, I think you mean 101,000 Euros. This whole scenario is very worrying.

Eden Project e-bike event,April20-24
Jackhandy, if you use a smartphone you could install the Strava App. Record the ride data and it will show distance elevation etc. I use this ALL the time and once you start it becomes very addictive. It's totally free, see Strava | Running and Cycling GPS Tracker, Performance Analytics, Maps, Clubs and Competition

Help.....What Tablet.....
If you want a tablet it can only be iPad, I have tried the Android tablets and as others have posted I soon learned my lesson. I know when I use the iPad it works, does what I need it to do. I do also run a laptop, because these devices are not as "well rounded" as the manufacturers will have you believe. They all do certain things better than the other, call it format wars if you like.

Kudos is clearing out our old test bikes on e-bay
Now this does look like a good deal, already met its reserve though (quickly). Does anybody on here have further details about the resin repair mentioned?

Why do so many Ebike sellers have no stock?
Isn't it just so frustrating when you find something you like, you put time into researching what you want to then discover the seller has no stock. And to be advised the stock will still be "months" away is just amazing. If you have no stock, you can't sell it. Simples!

Wisper Battery Failure x 2
An interesting thread posted earlier by Kudos http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/electric-bicycles/10206-voltage-drop-lifepo4-v-limn2o4.html LiFePO4 versus LiMn204 We have a number of bikes in our warehouse that are under test – some have LiFePO4 batteries and some have LiMn2O4 batteries (manganese spinel based lithium-ion polymer or lithium-ion batteries). We have noticed that the 10AH LiFePO4 battery has a sustained voltage up to 30-35 miles and then drops suddenly. Whereas the 14AH and 20AH LiMn2O4 batteries, whilst having a potentially longer range, the fall off of voltage is progressive from O miles and becomes critical at about 35 miles for the 14AH battery and 45 miles for the 20AH battery. These figures are not merely theoretical, if you read reports of Kudos users on Pedelec they all report strong performance from the LiFePO4 battery up to the point when the battery is technically exhausted. However, if you look on my graph the 14AH and 20AH LiMn2O4 batteries start to experience critical voltage drop off at 34 miles and 47 miles respectively – in practice at this point the bike will start to become sluggish to ride in assist mode. Whilst a total mileage of 50 plus miles (14AH) and 80 plus miles (20AH) is potentially possible, the last 16 miles of the 14AH and 30 miles of the 20AH will be unpleasant to ride – someone elsewhere on this forum described it as ‘like riding through treacle’! The LiFePO4 equipped bike never experiences this sluggish riding except in the last few yards before the battery is exhausted. Therefore if you use (2) LiFePO4 batteries you can expect 70 miles of almost full power riding. The effect is exaggerated with storage life – the LiFePO4 on average experiences only 2% drop in capacity in the first year and 3% drop in the second year, whereas the LiMn2O4 battery loses on average 14% capacity in each year. If you move point A and B some 20% back it is now easy to see why this LiMn2O4 type of battery loses working range rapidly after 2 years of usage, coupled with the high cost of replacement I just cannot understand why this battery type is preferred over the LiFePO4 battery. Wear a helmet folks
Otherwise known as a Hitler thread. Whilst here and given the OP subject I must add that the helmet is possibly what saved James Cracknell in that accident.

Kudos Tourer (first week impressions)
For my motorycle hand grips I always use hairspray, yep hairspray. It acts as a lubricant to help fit new grips and when it has dried and set the grip stays on just great. I cant remember the exact brand I used, you might have to try a few if there are any ladies in your household. Or you could just buy some grip glue which is available in motorcycle shops.

My first go at this...does anyone know how to collect food waste on a bike/trike?
What about a vehicle that has been around for many years for this job, an electric milk float.

The bike range question
A very interesting thread this has become, it also raises the question of battery type. Whilst a lot of users here state they have Lithium Ion battery power some of the late bikes are now running LiFePo4 battery power. On paper it appears that the new LifePo4 is better for longevity and the bikes I have been considering mostly have these new batteries. Does anybody have some long term use of the LiFePo4 type and are they really a better choice? Having read a lot of posts about batteries i will be interested to try some bikes with both, its not possible to get a complete picture though because testing a bike is generally a ride around the block. Not a 30 mile battery flattening marathon!

The bike range question
Well Im 12.5 stone 5'10" tall and I would nit say fit, not totally unfit and would be able to ride a good share of the way. Probably only asking the motor to supply some extra torque on the hills. So it sounds tome like I will be ok for the distance. I cant wait to visit the e-bikesdirect open day in a few weeks time.
