  1. Or check see if the fan is turning on the charger, if it has one. If it hasn't, feel the charger see if it is hot or cold. Not perfect but quick and easy.
  2. Cant help ya with this one. Think Freud is the man ya need.
  3. When I was young I used to think National Service was wrong. But looking at some of the teenagers coming out of schools my opinion is beginning to change.
  4. Cheers on the halls testing info, but it wasn't the purpose of the comment. shemozzle999 - all's well apocryphal - Had too look that one up.
  5. oops think my mistake in spelling has given me some stars. Was always more into maths and physics than english. Reminds me of a Plato quote. "Knowledge which is acquired under compulsion has no hold on the mind. Therefore do not use compulsion, but let early education be rather a sort of amusement; this will better enable you to find out the natural bent of the child."
  6. "Not mentioning names, there are one or two on here!" sort of personalizes it a bit? not mentioning names leaves the back door open a bit."Don't be sorry" us scots have thick skin. Think its to do with the weather. True i never started the post but I didn't drive it off co**** either. Just don't like good threads getting driven off topic. Nothing worse than going into a thread and seeing it has been driven off co**** like this one which has now got half posts on topic and half off. Though what is good with this one is it has went to more useful info. good post on motor check btw. Maybe you should add how to test the halls sensors. Maybe one of you guys with more knowledge on batteries should put a post up on safety/checking/etc if you feel you have genuine concern. Me pulling out of it was to try get it back on track. On the entertainment side just had a good giggle with the thread on 9000W. "Spill you Ovaltine" couldn't help but laugh.
  7. Think i will pull out this thread keeps going back and forth with regards to me helping someone with a battery. Maybe best to pm next time Rog if you don't agree with something said or done than bring it up in public. Bringing it up in this thread to me has degraded what could have been a good discussion.
  8. Ebike electronics can only go so far due to all we are asking it todo. A wiring diagram isnt much to ask for. As said previous not everyone stays near a dealer nor have they the money to pay them to diagnose a simple fault never mind having to add carrier charges to get it to them. I agree diagnostic systems will be very limited but that with a wiring diagram will give Mr average a good start point for alot of faults. With that info you could ask anyone with some electrical knowledge to help you fix it ie guy next door.
  9. What I get for reading when I should have been in my bed. The joys of having Monday off. Excellent manual and by the looks a good product. Products are usually better when the people involved have a passion for the subject. Quality over money can be a good thing. "The Chinese" was a flippant comment regarding the the mass production of goods and probably alot of circuit boards in bikes. The quality is not always at the forefront of there minds.
  10. I hear you Rog and Muckymits, I do forget sometimes that some people don't understand the basics in using electrical equipment. Once the mistake was made I then advised him to take up the offer from another member to fix it for him. Maybe bit late but well... You are correct though and it is taken on board. Thank you for bringing it up. On the subject of battery faults due to bad solder joints or like the fault I had- nut coming of the kettle plug and rattling about inside the main unit probably shorting out the BMS board, are totally unacceptable. Lets be honest more solder on one and dab of loctite on other. But thats another topic. That was a good example of how a manual should look flecc. I noticed there was no mention regarding the dangers involved with these high output batteries. I would have thought there would be a legal requirement to put a warning in the manual or on the battery? read the wisper one too and it was the same. I know Im off topic but had to reply to my public spanking :o "I will say e Zee has went out of their way to help customers with their technical manual but again people who cant work on a e bike wont buy because there is no dealer support around where they live." Valid point, nearly put me off. I spose you can only advice people with little know how on maintenance to buy the right product for them. Would be nice to have a standard though as there is little excuse not to have a diagnostic feature in all controllers. Right whos going to tell the Chinese!
  11. Cheers flecc. Was hoping the controller diagram was in there too though that was only for progressing my knowledge on how things work electronically. Not much use to the average person plus controllers are not to bad priced to replace till you go up into the higher amps. Some things best kept hidden... everyday a learning day, time for some reading. Hope I didn't offend you shemozzle999. Wasn't put in the best way looking back.
  12. None of that was aimed at you Cyclezee was a response to shemozzle999 post. Cant agree with his argument at all. Makes no sense. I deal with circuit boards there pennies to make these days only real cost would be the redesigning of a circuit board. In my opinion maybe 15 quid extra on a bike is more than enough to deal with the costs of adjusting to give fault diagnostic abilities and thats being on the very expensive side. Atleast these days its standard in most mid range and above bikes and according to flecc a company had the foresight years ago. Nice to see they give the diagrams out too. Wish the rest would follow.
  13. Neptune, don't fall into the trap why should we suffer for other peoples stupidity. Do we ban knives and forkes, sharp pencils, bikes would have to go under that argument.
  14. Could always make it on demand to stave off the people who are not confident in trying themselves. Nanny state comes to mind. you buy a ladder and fall of it-your fault. if you buy a car and get your twanger caught in the exaust-its your fault. If you fall of your bike its-your fault. If you play with a bike and get hurt fixing it its ----your fault. The customer is liable for playing with stuff they have no knowledge about imo. There quick to sell an electric bike to ride on the road and to quote above- "It is more a matter of safety of the customer whose level of competence is unknown" If that was a concern they wouldn't just sell an ebike to anyone without checking peoples riding abilities. But we all know that doesnt happen so back to money and selling replacement parts. Im with neptune. Rant over
  15. Just glad your sorted as I was in the same boat few weeks ago. It can be very frustrating. Alot oh peeps will have learned from this post myself included. Spose thats what the forum is all about. Have fun.
  16. Nice one, fingers crossed. Murphy's law comes to mind.
  17. Tis a nice idea but most bike manufacturers want to sell you the bike first. I recon some batteries are way overpriced but its a touchy topic in my opinion. I remember reading a post by flecc i think (one smart gentleman) about terminals, types, BMS... so its hard to say about the quality of a battery and how much it is worth without going into alot oh detail on its spec/build/amount of charges/guarantee etc. Cant see this one happening tbh. Showing a price only can be deceptive. Though im not an expert just my few pence worth.
  18. Is it possible to add a simple draw board feature for drawing simple diagrams? Currently in a post trying to help a user fault find his bike. I know diagrams can be done by external programs and added as a pic but i recon more peeps would spend time drawing out simple diagrams if it was built into the forum posting thingy http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/electric-bicycles/11223-electric-bike-stopped-working-help-7.html As i said i dont know if it is possible, just a suggestion that could aid in certain situations.
  19. Yeah unfortunately it probably will be i dont know that battery though so i cant say for sure. To be honest maybe you would be best to take Frank up on his kind offer. He could connect a new battery up to it and check it all out with ease. Plus easier to learn when someone is showing you face to face. Learning the hard way can cost money ie charger situation. Please dont take offense, just electronics is a tricky thing at times and its hard to explain fault finding over a forum.
  20. Im trying to keep it as simple as i can. But i understand what your saying looking at some of the posts. A simple draw board ability would make a big difference, nothing complex. Though i suppose it can be done with an external program and added as a pic. Just be handy if it was part of the forum, more people would use it to draw out simple things like cells and meter hook up points etc. Maybe something to suggest in the forum upgrade post, if it is possible to add such a feature.
  21. Hook it up to the battery and see if the light comes on. You can check at the battery connector where bike plugs in for voltage change. Disconnect battery from bike. Get your meter on to check the voltage at the battery terminals you plug the bike into, then turn on charger as you meter it. If voltage goes up charger is fine. Would be easier if we could put in wee drawings Or as Neptune says hook lights up in series then attach to the charger terminals and see if they light up or glow at least. Mind not to short anything.
  22. Tis A fix for mine bud if yours meters out the same as mine then prob be the same fault is all i am saying. Current can only be checked when there is a load drawing some juice of the supply? Think of it as water flow through a pipe if the pipe is blocked no water can flow? Sure i will be corrected if I am wrong above. Id hook the load ( lights ) direct across the battery positive and negative terminals that takes everything else out the circuit and will check your cells direct(direct onto the battery cells inside not terminals on casing). Then do the same after the battery board. Meter the voltage as you are doing the above and disconnect the battery from the bike. This is to check the battery and battery board only. Trying to narrow down the fault. If that works it is good sign i suppose as it takes the expensive bit out the circuit. Nice to see your not giving up took me a while to get mine going again. hope this helps.
  23. When you say you connected across the battery, do you mean inside across the actual cells? Did you read my post chris? post 45? tis exact same fault as I had with a fix.
  24. Hi Frank was going to call you next week about the COMMUTER PLUS bike will pm you tomoz if that ok dont want to hijack a thread. Must be fate
  25. Hi, New member just joined to try help you out bud. Dont do forums to many trolls these days anyways hello all and here goes. My bike (905se) had same fault - turn the key and the lights flickered and then all went dead. Battery was measuring 40 odd volts too when disconnected and charging fine. After checking everything out i found it was the BMS (board in the battery) my bike is one from the first batch in the country so fairly old and I didnt want to invest in a new battery. So... to check if yours is the same try the following Connect it all up to normal order Inside the control box at the pedals find the wires from the battery(big white connector?). Stick a digi multimeter in there (key to off position at this point) Turn the key and see the voltage if it is way less that 40 volts prob be the BMS like mine(i got 40 then jumped to 200mV as the lights dimmed) To get round this issue open the battery and cut the black wire close to the BMS board(make sure its the one that goes to the kettle plug not the charge on) and connect it direct to the battery. This shorts out the BMS board and gives power direct. This isnt ideal for all be warned that overloading the cells can happen now as the battery management will not cut in to protect them but its an old battery I have got and saving up for new bike so will keep me going in the mean time. Hope this helps if you have any probs with above chuck a reply up. I will keep an eye open for a response. Good luck.
