Sheared screw - help please!
Thanks all - very useful advice and lots of options to try. I think it's my own fault it sheared. I put quite a lot of weight on it during riding and I think at home it's been resting on the rack which might have pushed it over to one side and put more pressure on that bolt over a long period of time.

Sheared screw - help please!
Brill - thanks all. Thought it should be a reasonable repair to ask a shop to make! I'll try a better shop next weekend and see how we get on. Until then cable-ties for the mudguard will have to do!

Sheared screw - help please!
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not really that experienced at this kind of DIY. From the pictures I uploaded does it look like I could use the Dremel method? I think it may be a bit too flush with the frame. I can't get to the bolt from the other side alas - the brake disk is in the way and I've never taken one of those off.

Sheared screw - help please!
Hi all, I've been happily using a KTM Macina Sport for the last 18 months with no problems. However, the screw that holds the rack and mudguard to the frame has suddenly sheared off, leaving a broken bit behind that I can't get out (pics attached). I went to a bike shop this afternoon, who said 'bike shops don't do this kind of repair any more. Too time-consuming and risky'. Is that really right? Or do I need a better bike shop? Thanks for any help!

Thanks for responses. To be honest I don't really need it at all with the new Macina, so am looking to sell. Is the advice to repair and then auction?

BH Emotion serious problems
Hi all, Been a bit of a pause in this discussion. I've moved to a KTM Macina which has been excellent for the last four months - not quite as powerful as the BH but very reliable and feels like a lovely normal bike. I'd appreciate any advice on what to do with the BH - still only a year old and working well, but with one spoke broken on the rear wheel. Anyone here want it? Or shall I auction? Thanks!

What's your average speed ?
I ride in the middle of London every day and manage about 14mph on average. Some early mornings and weekends bumps that up a bit from the weekday commute. Better than a car or public transport!

Thanks Rob. This was very helpful. Tried a few out today - Kudos Eiger was interesting, though a bit slow off the start. KTM Macina Cross v nice.

BH Emotion serious problems
It's where the spoke attaches to the motor - looks like whatever attaches it to the motor breaks off. Have been riding a couple of weeks with the heavier spokes and had another one break today. I'm beginning to give up on this bike completely. However, before I splash out on a different one I'm worried the same things will recur. So a few questions: I weigh around 80 kilos, with a couple of kilos attached for a laptop. I presume that's within normal tolerances! I cycle around London a lot and there are some potholes and speed bumps. I presume a good ebike should be able to cope with that? Is part of the problem the extra weight in the rear wheel and would it be worth looking at crank bike like an Agattu rather than a hub like a Kudos? Should I look at smaller wheels? Any bikes built like a tank that people recommend? Grateful for any help - getting a bit desperate here!

Quick question about Kudos Tornado / Arriba
Great thanks all. Really helpful!

Quick question about Kudos Tornado / Arriba
Just a quick q - can you fit a normal rear-wheel luggage rack to one of these? Seatpost racks probably wouldn't be strong enough for my normal travel weight (laptop + papers + clothes). Thanks!

Hah! That cheered me up. I might not try that with the BH... crunching sounds would ensue...

BH Emotion serious problems
Just to share my pain after another intensely frustrating afternoon. I was told I could collect the bike at 3:30, so I trek down to Battersea. Am told that they haven't yet collected the wheel so I need to go away for another hour. So I waste an hour and come back. Only to be told that BH sent the wrong spokes and they only just found this out. So off I go home again with no bike.

I should clarify that the spokes seem to break near the hub. I'm not an expert, so I'm not sure what's breaking and how to true up etc. Anyone know a good guide on the internet I can read up, so to learn what to do?

BH Emotion serious problems
Hi all, Thanks for the suggestions, offers and support - much appreciated. My priority is to get the bike back on the road before Christmas, so I'm going to ask him to repair using BH's spokes. Secondly, assuming the damn thing breaks again I'd like to take up the offer of an introduction to a specialist wheel-builder. KudosDave - I'll be in touch by PM. Thirdly, I still feel badly treated and out of pocket. I don't concede that yet another repair using poor quality components ends the matter; nor do problems with the manufacturer absolve the dealer of responsibility. So I intend to take this further - do I start with a complaint to BEBA? Trading Standards? Thanks again!

BH Emotion serious problems
Ok sorry to drag this back on topic after so long, but it's been an extremely long and frustrating wait. Here's where we are. The bike has been now off the road for nearly eight weeks, while the dealer has been negotiating with BH in the UK and Spain. Despite the evidence provided by me and from this forum that the spokes originally fitted with the bike were inadequate, BH UK have only supplied a few spokes to repair the wheel – presumably based on the original 2012 specification. According to the dealer, BH's view seems to be that their bikes are perfect so therefore it must be something that I am doing despite the dealer saying to them that it is an intrinsic problem and that in his view and the view of others it will not be resolved by their proposed solution. So I'm now being asked to choose between: Dealer to fit these replacement spokes (no cost) but I'm pretty sure the problem will recur Dealer to rebuild wheel with 12 gauge spokes at a cost to me of £120 It's worth saying I've incurred probably a few hundred pounds in extra costs while the bike has been off the road, not to mention the inconvenience. What should I do? Complaint to BEBA? Trading Standards? Small claims? None of that will get the bike back on the road of course! All help very welcome (though I imagine dealer will be reading this site!).

Old Wisper 905SE - quick question
Thanks David. Another 12.5 miles done today and three out of four green LEDs on the battery still lit up so I'm relying on that for the moment!

Old Wisper 905SE - quick question
I'm sure that's right. Still I did 20 miles on it today without a problem. Front LED was red, but battery monitor said half-full. Working well for £350

Old Wisper 905SE - quick question
Hi all, To tide me over while BH is being repaired, I picked up an old Wisper 905 Works SE Sport third-hand. It looks like being about 4 years old - here's a photo: Quick question: I don't understand the LEDs. It looks like battery but it went down to red under heavy load and then came back again. Is it more like a current monitor? Is it better to trust the LEDs on the battery itself? That showed 3 out of 4 lights when the front indicator showed red. Might just have to risk it on a long ride! Otherwise, it rides pretty well for a four year-old ebike!

Still no response from BH on my bike yet - dealer tells me they're not responding.

BH Emotion serious problems
Thanks all - lots more useful advice. Will draw the attention of the dealer to this thread if I get no joy from the wheel rebuild.
-
BH Emotion serious problems
I'd rather not for two reasons: firstly I'd prefer to see what happens first when the wheel is rebuilt by BH and secondly I was talking to the mechanic rather than the dealer at the time and I wouldn't want to misrepresent what might have been offered.
-
BH Emotion serious problems
Thanks all. The dealer quoted me close to £200 to rebuild the wheel locally which I considered unacceptable when I have spent nearly £2000 on a ten month old bike used perfectly normally! I'll see what happens when the wheel comes back.

BH Emotion serious problems
Thanks - lots of useful advice. If there's a still a problem when it comes back from BH, I'll suggest that to the dealer.
