  1. My bike had the cut out problem - about 7 times in 1100km so quite rare. Halfords eventually sent it away to a 3rd party for repair. I am going to pick it up tonight. My wife had the same problem on hers and a colleague at work also. So 3 out of 3. I'll be interested to hear if they actually acknowledge they have found a problem, or just say they couldn't reproduce it - because they didn't want to cycle 200km to trigger it!
  2. I have had this happen to me twice this week. Before that just once several weeks ago. I will report to Halfords at 6 week service but I have also emailed their customer service desk to get it on the record. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
  3. Hi Can I suggest you look at the Carrera Crossfire at Halfords. They are currently £999 but you can get 10% off with a British Cycling Membership, so you can save about £70-80 of that figure, plus you get 10% of anything you buy at Halfords. http://i1.adis.ws/i/washford/157408?$imageMainRetina$ http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/electric-bikes/carrera-crossfire-e-womens-electric-bike Myself and the wife both have the men's models, but they do a ladies version. One big benefit of Halfords is that they offer a two hour test drive. Just leave your credit card and driving license with them. You do need to book it in advance though. For sub £1000 it seems to be a good bike, with good reviews.
  4. OK - this is getting silly - day three cycling to work this week and puncture number three. Yesterday was glass and today was a thorn with a mystery guest on Monday. Those new tyres can't get here fast enough. I have changed my order to 35c land cruisers. Oh and I got stung by a wasp cycling home last night as well - stuck under my helmet strap. I'm sure this cycling is good for me! 820km and counting on the Carrera
  5. Interesting. I assume that is on the ebike crossfire? I have ordered 40c tyres as I thought 35s might be too narrow for the rim or not wide enough to take the extra weight of the motor. I assume they are working well I might change my order D Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
  6. Good for you! I think this is an excellent value bike. I am now up to 800 km. Only down side. 2 punctures, both in the awkward rear wheel so I am switching to more robust tyres. Also have had the battery cut out issue twice But that's 13 commutes to work that I would have done in the car Have fun Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
  7. I'll look out for you on the road. My wife and I have the carerra's as does a chap from work. So that's at least four of us in the Fylde. We are going to try the cafe at the top of Beacon Fell next. See how the bike copes with that Hill. Sent from my SM-T810 using Tapatalk
  8. Thought I'd provide a quick update. I've had the Carrera for 3 weeks now and have covered 450km. I'm very happy with the bike (especially at a cost of £700). The 'tugging' is a little frustrating, but I have learned to adjust my riding style accordingly. The 16 mile route to work now takes about an hour rather than a more typical journey of 1 hour 20 mins. I've had the battery cut out issue 3 times, but seemingly all bunched together within a hour, not a repeating issue so far. As far as range, I easily manage 1.5 trips to work on one charge. So a total of 48 miles on one charge, by which point I am down to one bar. I think I could therefore easily get to 60 miles. However, although this route does include some proper hills (1100ft of climbing on the way to work) , on the flat, I am often cruising without the battery as I am over the 15mph cut-off. I'd recommend this bike!
  9. Hi. Well in two weeks I've had this happen to me 3 times. My colleague at work had it happen to him once already and he has only had the bike a couple of days. We will both be reporting this to our own local Halfords. It will be interesting to see if they also deny any knowledge of other customers having the same issue. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
  10. Good point. All I would actually need is it increasing from 15.5 to 17.5mph. I am sure there are many who would disagree on that point, but I'm already travelling at that speed under my own steam. Not sure I want to void my warranty just yet though Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
  11. Very true - I had the bike for a 2 hour test ride, but as we kept to an official bike route around our town our speed probably never got high enough. It was only when I hit the open road that I noticed it. Anyway - it's not the end of the world - just wanted to be sure it wasn't an actual fault Thanks
  12. Thanks for the feedback - at least I know it appears to be a feature rather than a fault. I'll just push on to 30 kph and use the motor on the hilly bits. At least on the way to work. On the way home I'll probably go for the keep the speed lower option!
  13. Hi All I mentioned this point in another thread, but it was buried among a lot of other words, so I thought I'd give it it's own thread to see if any of the experts can help out. So I now have the Halfords Carrera e-bike and have ridden about 90 miles so far this week. Everything seems great except for an annoying "tugging" sensation at a certain speed. I get the same effect on both mine and my wife's bike so I ruled out it being a fault. As I haven't ridden any other ebikes I don't know if this is normal, or at least normal for this type of ebike. The symptoms. NB: The bike only displays in KM When I get close to the motor cut-off speed (about 25 km/h) rather than the assistance gradually get less, it actually feels like a brake has been applied. I can only describe it as a "tugging" sensation as if the motor is actually applying a braking effect. However, if I change down a few gears, increase my cadence and get my speed up to about 30 km/h the sensation goes away again. One test I need to do is to get p to the speed where the problem occurs and then actually try switching to "No Assist" or even switching the system off and see if that has an affect. Overall it hasn't ruined the experience, but it is frustrating - is it simply the assistance switching on and off in a jerky fashion and so me feeling and then not feeling the full weight of the bike? I think not, as the effort I have to exert when the bike is "tugging" seems less than the effort I need once I get out of the trouble zone and up to say 30 km/h - the bike is easier to pedal at 30 than it is at 25? Might just be my imagination, but I thought someone on the forum might have an explanation David
  14. Hi Did you ever make any progress on changing the wheelsize? I have managed to find a combination of keys that bring up the wheelsize (it says "28 CABE") but no ability to then alter it. I am going to have another play though
  15. Quick update. Return trip to work. Probably 35 miles. Used two bars. One there and one back. Includes some long hills so good going. Reckon I've enough juice to get back in the morning and then recharge battery at work. BAD NEWS. Bike just shut down whilst riding home on the flat with no bumps. Had to stop and then wait 10 secs and then I could switch on again. Definitely not overheated. I'm worried this is a loose connection issue. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
