Cycling "midlife" crisis
Oh okay thanks for that. It was going at a constant speed of 30kph on flat which is just over 18mph and to be honest with you, I wasn't putting much effort into pedalling. Bearing in mind, this was on speed 3, does that mean it would go even fast at speed 5? When I tried speed 4 for a brief moment, it definitely felt faster. I didn't get a chance to look at the display but the speed increase made me panic so I switched back to 3.

Cycling "midlife" crisis
Hi, thank you for your reply! I bought the 6 speed Brompton hoping that I might actually be able to ride it on the highest gear, or is that not how gears work? Also, yesterday I was riding my Woosh on pedal assist speed 3 but the LCD display said that I was going at 30kph which I believe is 18mph. How is that possible when the limit is 15mph or am I having a dumb moment? I wonder how fast it would go at the highest speed. Good idea. Thank you! I'll have to try that once I get used to the bicycle but for now I'm afraid of using the throttle as I fear it may throw me off balance. Thank you hoppy for your kind words as always I think I'm just going to have to gradually build the leg strength to be able to ride the Brompton. If that doesn't work, then I plan to do an electric conversion in a few months.

Cycling "midlife" crisis
Thank you! Your comment has made me feel so much better and I hope I get used to it soon as I definitely like my new Woosh bike. Despite being an affordable bicycle, it feels sturdy and I like the stability it offers. I just hope I don't end up getting killed on the road before I can actually get used to it. I'm not able to ride a regular bike due to health reasons and lack of leg muscle so I honestly don't know how I'll make use of my new Brompton.

Cycling "midlife" crisis
Hi everyone, I haven't been on here for quite a while but now that I'm back, I have yet another "situation". I quit cycling back in July last year and sold my e-co bike a couple of months ago. The last time I posted here I was looking to buy the Kalkhoff Sahel but my circumstances changed and I no longer needed to make the purchase. Anyway, I began to miss the feeling of freedom a bicycle provides and decided to get back into it. My health has further deteriorated so buying a normal bicycle was out of the question. And so my search for the perfect electric bike began... I had my heart set on the Kalkhoff Sahel but the fear of having such an expensive bike stolen got the better of me. I started looking at cheaper alternatives and ended up purchasing the Woosh Petite. On paper this seemed like the perfect bike for my needs. Anyway I had the bike assembled yesterday and took it for a ride today. Compared to the e-co, it felt so much more stable especially on potholes. But it's also extremely heavy and hard to control. I cycled for half an hour and couldn't signal once as any time I attempted to take one of my hands off the handlebars, I'd lose my balance. My journey was beyond hazardous and I consider myself lucky to have returned home in one piece. I returned home feeling rather upset about not being able to enjoy something that means a lot to me. I owned a Brompton not long ago and I remember how happy it made me feel for the brief period when I was able to ride it. I don't know what came over me but around half an hour ago, I placed an order for a H6R Brompton and I have no idea what I intend to do with it. Rant over...

This made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Thank you so much. You're awesome And thank you to everyone else too. Apart from a swollen lip, I feel fine this morning and the neck pain seems to have gone.

Ouch that looks painful. I'm glad you're ok.

Cycling Accident :(
Thank you Thank you for the encouragement. Yes I have definitely come a long way but I've also started taking risks and I need to stop. I jumped a red light today for the first time ever during my morning commute. This has been a wake up call.

Almost died and almost got physical later
Oh I'm so glad you're safe and alive I can't think of anything more dreadful than the sight of van and lorry drivers whilst out on the road. Stay safe

Cycling Accident :(
Thank you very much everyone for your kind, encouraging words. You guys are awesome He came back to check up on me and when he saw that I was bleeding, he offered to take me home. He wasn't even worried about his cab. He was concerned about me. He didn't even accept my money after dropping me home. Faith in humanity restored

Cycling Accident :(
Thanks. I'm sorry to hear about your accident and I'm glad you're ok. Yes I think I'm going to start slowing down. I feel that I deserved it and had it coming. My cycling has completely changed from when I first started a couple of months ago as I've started taking risks. I think I should consider this a wake up call and be glad that it wasn't too serious.

Cycling Accident :(
Thank you. Yes I thought so... but I think I'm in denial. I know it was my fault but I suppose I'm trying to make myself feel better. I feel so stupid. Thank you. Hopefully I'll be back on the road soon

Cycling Accident :(
I have no idea how it happened. I applied the brakes in good time but they didn't work and I'm not sure whether I should blame myself or if there was something wrong with the bike. I might have been going too fast and didn't expect the taxi to stop so suddenly. The chain is damaged as the pedals no longer move. I'm still in shock and apart from bleeding from my mouth and mild pain in my neck, I feel fine. I'm lucky that I didn't damage my front teeth, although at the time, I was almost certain that I had broken my teeth.

Sahel compact or nano Brompton
Aaaaahhhh I'm in love. It looks like it was made for me. I can't wait... Thank you for that

Sahel compact or nano Brompton
Thank you for such a detailed reply. And thanks for the bag recommendation. I'll definitely be getting that to go with my bike I've decided that it's probably best to go for the compact. Hopefully I'll place my order in the next couple of weeks. Just one question now... Black or orange...

Time to buy a new e-bike
RobF you have convinced me. I'm going to go for the sahel compact. Thank you so much for your recommendation. A big thank you to everyone else as well for taking the time to advise me. I'll hopefully test ride the bike in a couple of weeks and then make the purchase.

Time to buy a new e-bike
Ohh thank you so much I think I might have messed up the chain on my current bike since I haven't cleaned it or greased it in 2 months... But yes I should probably invest in some maintenance skills.

Sahel compact or nano Brompton
Oh good idea. Thanks In my other thread, many people said the agattu might be too big for me. RobF suggested the sahel compact and after giving it a serious thought, I think it's perfect for my size/height. I think I might have to try riding one before taking the plunge.

Sahel compact or nano Brompton
I'm a student and I won't be able to leave the lock at college. The main reason why I'm purchasing the bicycle is to attend a treatment programme 5 days a week and I definitely won't be able to leave the locks at the hospital overnight.

Sahel compact or nano Brompton
Ohhh thanks. I was actually looking for advice on some good locks and these are perfect. I think I'll buy them both. I read somewhere that locking the bike with 2 different locks means the thief needs different set of tools. Thank you once again. You're awesome

Sahel compact or nano Brompton
Thank you. I did consider the AVE MH7 but I don't like the way it looks. Last week, a driver shouted "nice wheelies" in an attempt to ridicule me whilst I was riding my e-co bicycle. I don't want anyone making fun of my bicycle which is one of the reasons I'm going for an expensive good looking bike Yes I don't know what the resale value is on the sahel compact but I don't expect it to be as good as the Brompton. I owned my Brompton for a year and I still managed to sell it for £700 (original price £865).

Sahel compact or nano Brompton
Thank you OK so the custom built Brompton in my preferred colour (yellow and blue ) would cost £1125. And then I'm looking at ~£1000 for conversion. Whereas the sahel compact would cost £2000 plus ~£200 for insurance. Decisions decisions...
