  1. Thanks both. That fat tyre Brompton looks pretty cool! Probably quite heavy but it's certainly different. Thanks for the info Stuart. I'll see if I can get test rides on both to compare.
  2. I might look at a used Brompton. I have seen them on the trains a few times and marvel at how small they fold up. The thing that puts me off a bit is the supposedly sketchy ride, although I admit I've never tried riding one. I live in the sticks and it's full of potholed lanes so I stick to my full size bikes at home but fancy something I could store easily in the house. That Carrera bike looks pretty cool too although it's not really what I was after, I bet it's a comfy ride.
  3. Hi all, Thank you for your very helpful replies. Sorry to waste people's time, but I've decided to cancel the order on that bike for a couple of reasons - one being it didn't seem a very good donor for a conversion. I still would like a trifold bike to put in the car as I have 3 other full size bikes (BBSHD, BBS02 and TSDZ8 mid drives). I'm 15.5 st 5ft 11 but trying to lose a bit of weight. I might save up for a Brompton g line and look at converting that but they are a lot of money. I want something I could fold up easy to chuck in the boot of my Yaris. I've already got a towbar and bike rack but it can be a faff to set up with the big bikes. Paul
  4. Yes, something like that would be ideal with a 20 inch front hub.
  5. Yes either a clip on battery or a smallish Brompton clip on bag to house a small battery and controller with a detachable wire so it's easily removed. I'd prefer something lower down rather than the swytch-style handlebar mounted batteries. Something light but with a bit of grunt. I'm not expecting too much as I have BBSHD and BBS02 bikes but just something to help up hills.
  6. Yes 406, long write up on them here: I could do with something similar to the Brompton kit where it clips on with a 20 inch wheel.
  7. I think it's 74 mm: Opening front 74mm,rear 120mm Any recommendations on a suitable kit?
  8. Thanks all for the recommendations. The clone I've ordered has 20 inch wheels, I think Brompton's (apart from G-line) are 16 inch wheels. So I'm looking for something similar to the set up for the Woosh bike but 20 inch wheel instead. Also been looking at aliexpress, pswpower, etc but not sure if they would fit.
  9. Hi all, I'm looking for a front hub kit for a 20 inch Brompton clone (Mint T9-20D). I don't have the bike yet as it's still shipping but wanted to get some ideas about possible kits. 20 inch wheels with mechanical disc brakes. Front hub kit ideally 250w road legal but don't mind a bit more, 36v. Looking for a fairly light battery I can clip on a bag at the front. Ideal would be something that still allows the bike to be folded up pretty quickly and easily detach the battery when required. Smallish display and throttle if possible. Something with a bit of grunt for hills but not expecting too much. Would prefer something already built into a wheel but will also consider motors without a wheel. Does anyone have any good suggestions? Here is the link: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Fashion-MINT-Folding-Bicycle-20inch-9speed_1601181061992.html many thanks, Paul
  10. Issue resolved. The STlink dongle needed a firmware update. Once updated it now connects ok and I've flashed the motor.
  11. yes it shows 5v and Java is fully installed and working
  12. I don’t have the bike here atm but I get the following output when the stlink is connected on Linux. The other Stlink I have outputs the same values but the serial number is just showing ‘Y’
  13. I've tried both Linux and Windows 10 on 2 different PCs desktop and laptop. Java is working all ok. Assume it's a hardware issue or incompatibility with the motor.
  14. Tbh I'm a bit reluctant to spend any more money on clones as 2 different ones from different sellers haven't worked. I could buy a genuine one e.g. from CPC farnell but there is no guarantee this will work either. https://cpc.farnell.com/stmicroelectronics/st-link-v2/programmer-icd-for-stm8-stm32/dp/SC12550?ost=stlink
  15. Update, tried with a much shortened cable (see attached pics) at 3.3 and 5v. No change. Any other suggestions before I give up? I've tried 2 STlink clones from different vendors and no joy.
  16. I did try 3.3v instead of 5v and no difference. Been busy with work but will try the shortened cable this weekend. Does the OSF make much difference to the torque or top end speed (compared to stock firmware 48v 16a)?
  17. I will try shortening the cable first. This is the second STlink dongle I've tried from Amazon (using different sellers) so it is more likely to be the length of the cable.
  18. Yes software all installed correctly. It just refuses to connect
  19. Hi all, Many thanks for all of the advice. The cable would not work with my old 36v motor or the new 48v motor. The entire cable is 13cm long from end to end. I have tried with windows 10 and 11 installed on a fairly modern laptop and a separate desktop PC. Also tried Linux and no joy with any of them. I tested the voltage on the pin shown above for the 48v motor and it reads 5v so I assume it's version 1. I haven't tested the old motor as it is packed away now but it was bought in April 2020 from pswpower so I assume that one is version 1 too. I don't want to give up yet but where should I go from here? I guess trying to shorten the cable so the entire cable is under 10cm? As an aside, maybe I was expecting more but the performance difference on the 48 TSDZ2 wasn't that much better than the 36v version. I'm running it on a specialized crosstrail disc with the standard chainring on the front and 11-34T cassette on the back. I'm running a 48v Yosepower battery 13ah fully charged and it is maxing out at 20mph on flat ground in top gear. I've set the display VLC5 to max speed limit and it's set to 16a current on the display (was bought as a 750w 48v kit from pswpower). Maybe I'm underwhelmed because I've got BBS02 500w and BBSHD (de-tuned to lower amps than stock) on other bikes and they feel considerably more powerful but the 48v TSDZ2 it doesn't seem that much more powerful than the older 36v version and the top end speed is about the same.
  20. I have recently purchased a Tongsheng TSDZ2 48v 750w kit from PSWpower to replace my previous TSDZ2 36v 250w motor (also purchased from PSWpower). I have a VLCD5 and wanted to use the open source firmware on the unit (the embrusa firmware for the VLCD5 screen). I bought an ST link adaptor from Amazon and wired it up as the instructions on the wiki to a speed sensor extension cable (see image). Connecting it to the speed sensor cable running to the motor. I’ve tried the ST link software and the Java tool and I’m unable to get a connection on Windows 10 (with drivers installed) or Linux. It just refuses to connect. Any ideas why this will not work? I purchased another ST link USB dongle from another amazon seller and that won’t connect either. I used these instructions https://github.com/OpenSourceEBike/TSDZ2_wiki/wiki/Flash-the-firmware-on-TSDZ2 I've tried 2 motors and 2 STlink USB dongles and still no joy. Any help would be much appreciated.
  21. Cheers both, I will check the chainline first before I order anything
  22. Ok thanks guys. So in summary I need the following: California Ebike stabiliser bar Lekkie bling ring spacer 1 or 2 or more? Longer M6 bolts into the motor Loctite/thread lock I’ve attached pics, tell me if this is your thinking?
  23. I don’t really fancy using the angle grinder on the frame as the bike is brand new. I have one of those California evoke brackets on my other bike, might buy me 1mm. I could grind a bit off the motor but still not sure if that is going to be enough. I’ve attached some more pics.u
  24. Ok thanks Peter, I also found this but it isn’t cheap (still cheaper than buying a bbshd though) http://precialps.com/uk/accessories-bafang-bbs01-bbs02/12-kit-modification-bafang-bbs02-en-100mm-fat-bike.html
  25. Thanks for the replies guys. I would rather reuse the existing motor rather than buy a brand-new BBSHD as these are the best part of £500. Would any of these ideas work? The second picture I stole from another website.
