July 31, 201213 yr Brilliant! Will I be able to pick it up when I drop it? :-( Tom. Bet it costs a bit more than our JuicyBikes?
July 31, 201213 yr Author No, it does mean CBT and full motorcycle test, since it's power is equivalent to their 600 cc ic scooter.
July 31, 201213 yr Author Interesting, why does the narrator of the 'promo vid' refer to 'Electric Engine'. Legitimised by people referring to car engines as motors I suppose, tit for tat!
July 31, 201213 yr Author And How ? Allowing it to drive on after the battery charge has been used up . It's a BMW, Battery Miracle World. .
July 31, 201213 yr Allowing it to drive on after the battery has been used up. This applies to the electric car . the plan is to use the 600cc petrol engine from the existing scooter, either to charge the battery whilst driving, or to pull the car at a lower speed with a flat battery, a "get you home" device.
July 31, 201213 yr Author The surprising thing though is the ic engine size at 600 cc. That will give it a full sport m/c style performance and is way beyond what is necessary to charge that small battery. Usually this type of hybrid system uses a relatively small petrol engine for the charge and drive on functions, the Chevrolet Volt and BYD cars being examples.
July 31, 201213 yr Oh no Tony, what have you done, I want one:( With BMW behind it this one, it should hopefully be more sucessful than the Vectrix, but will it cost more than a small hatchback......probably:(

No the scooter does not have a engine its battery only. They will be using the scooter engine in a version of the i3 Car so not going to give that good a perfomance in a full size car but could be enough to get you home if battery is flat.

But yes, the price will be a shocker, judging by their over £4000 C1 petrol scooter and the £7000 Vectrix. I'd guess well past £8000 and maybe nearer £10,000 in the UK. . Thanks Garry, I'd only quickly scanned the article before posting.

Under 6k it may have a chance but otherwise why bother other than to claim you are "green" which is a dubious claim at best of times.
July 31, 201213 yr It looks like a motor bike to me. Do they really expect to sell this? At that size and weight, 100 kilometers is not very much. And as for being an 'Urban' vehicle, one of the big problems for city cars is 'How do you charge them?' Many are kept at the kerb side.
July 31, 201213 yr Would it matter if i have my electric supplied from British Gas,and how about tariffs? I'd better start house hunting then.
July 31, 201213 yr Author They'll sell in the more affluent parts of Europe and to the green minded types in the USA, but otherwise the sales will be minimal. That city kerbside parking charging problem is a very big one for e-vehicles, though often not so much a problem for scooters which can be wheeled into paths or tiny city front gardens. The price will be the killer for this BMW though, one can buy the Renault Twizy two seater electric scootercar for under £7000 or a little more with side doors, and that's what I'd rather have in the city: Renault Twizy . July 31, 201213 yr I watched the video twice, just to make sure I hadn't misheard. At around 1min 10 the rather soulless and robotic commentator claimed the battery was 8 ampere hours allowing 120 kph and 100km between charges. That's impressive - can I get one of those?
July 31, 201213 yr Nice ground clearance on that, I could have a lot of fun scraping the fairing round corners.

Good God - and they said the Bubble Car was dead. Frankly, I'd rather have one of the originals, because that must be one of the ugliest microcars I've ever clapped eyes on. How cool would it be to have an original (or repro) Messerschmidt two-seater tricycle, but electrically powered?

How cool would it be to have an original (or repro) Messerschmidt two-seater tricycle, but electrically powered? It does look a bit weird, it is French after all, but it's quite practical in a number of ways, amazingly stable with it's underfloor batteries and power unit and by the look of it on all the tester's films, great fun. It really goes too. Personally I like electric cars to look different and not ape petrol cars, just as I'm happy for e-bikes to look different from normal bikes. They are different so why not be different, and I'd be very happy to be seen driving the Twizy.
