November 13, 201213 yr I dont think I can keep this laptop going much longer Im not happy about jumping into the first generation Windows8 and the half tablet/half keyboard offerings...... plus they are more expensive..... and plus I really just want an excuse to buy a tablet I have read so many comparisons on tablets... and apart from the headaches its giving me.....it really has to be between the iPad and the Samsung 10 Tab....OR the Samsung 10 Note...... My phone is the Samsung Galaxy but I also have an iPod touch. My instinctive loyalty is towards the Samsung though ...... Has anyone tried all three tablets and can give me some sensible unbiased advice on which is the best ......or at least the pros and cons of each?......please..... Lynda
November 13, 201213 yr I thought Penicillin was the tablet for the girl that had everything. If you can afford the £1, check out this. It just came on the TV while I was reading your post. Must be devine intervention. Best buy laptops - About Which?

I have to be dying before I swallow any tablet Dave But thats a good tip, thanks , Im a great believer in divine intervention lol and I certainly trust 'Which' so will have a look, I think the budget 'may' stretch to an extra pound Aah....or maybe £1.49....decisions decisions lol....... November 13, 201213 yr Hi Lyn If you need a laptop then a laptop it has to be... But on the subject of 'tablets' there's only one breed and it's iPad (or do like many other peeps do and buy something else then regret it and then buy an iPad) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

And B*****.....but it looks like Which agrees with you about the iPad.......now I really DO have a dilemma Lynda
November 13, 201213 yr There are 'tasks' that are more suited to running on a laptop where the program's are only available in a windows or Linux operating environment, and there are no apps written for the tablet, so have a think about what do you do and what you need. Mrs old Dave laptop gets very little use since she stopped playing FarmVille on it, lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
November 14, 201213 yr I bought an iPad in the Comet stock liquidation sale last week as Christmas present for my wife. She uses a laptop quite a lot, mainly for surfing and email, so the iPad will do that in a more convenient and portable package. I always try to get her something that I really want;)
November 14, 201213 yr Author But has anyone tried both......it seems like the advantage of the Samsung is that it has a memory slot and you are stuck with the memory you buy with the iPad. Resolution is supposed to be better on the latest iPad but is this splitting hairs ? And the iPad doesnt have flash support. I think I am still edging towards the Samsung, but I need to try one properly as , doing a lot of typing, would I find only a 'virtual' keyboard a pain ? Or should I just get another laptop................I think I am starting to lose the will to live....... ( but I am 'enjoying' reading about the best car/washing machine/breadmaker etc on Which ) Lynda
November 14, 201213 yr I think this would suit you Lynda Apple (United Kingdom) - MacBook Air - The ultimate everyday notebook., not cheap, but if you make enough bread.................
November 14, 201213 yr Author Please stop rubbing it in....you know I am LUSTING after that ......but as you say....its not cheap, but then........you get what you pay for.........and I think I deserve it ......but I just really fancy a tablet Lynda

November 14, 201213 yr Lynda What do you mainly use your laptop for ? If its mainly email, internet browsing, playing music, watcing video then a tablet is fine. For large amounts of typing (eg documents, selling on eBay), video/photo editing, then while doable on tablet they are far easier/quicker on alaptop. As for which tablet im with old dave. Get a iPad (and right now in comet if they have any left as 10% off is normally impossible to get) Edited November 14, 201213 yr by GaRRy

Get a iPad (and right now in comet if they have any left as 10% off is normally impossible to get) Its mainly email and internet browsing......I use my iPod for my music, kindle for reading and I will keep this current laptop in the motorhome for watching dvd's on. I dont play games either.......apart from my Solitaire compulsion lol Its just with the iPad Im not happy about not being able to retro increase storage and also the no flash support that is still niggling with me. As for Comet, I dont know that only 10% discount is enough to give up any after sales support with the store although I realise I would still have apple warranty. Im getting close though...at least I have decided that my usage doesnt warrant a Mac book Air.....thank god At least all this 'thinking out loud' is helping me to reach a decision......eventually Lynda
November 14, 201213 yr I am quite drawn to the 16GB Nexus 10 - retailing for £319, £80 less than the equivalent iPad - but, to be fair, this would be in addition to the iPad I already have (and I pay US prices here in Indochina). I wouldn't worry too much about space, Lynda, it's just a matter of a bit of tidying up, usually, if you are getting near full up.
November 14, 201213 yr Author If I remember correctly Alistair.....werent you the lucky b who WON an iPad ? Wish I could.....then I wouldnt be bothered about my niggles lol. I presume that I wouldnt have enough storage to keep all my photos on the 16 iPad like I do on Picassa ? And what exactly do you mean by 'tidying up' ? Dont go getting TOO techy on me Lynda
November 14, 201213 yr a bit of tidying up = get rid of all the cr*p, like films that you have seen and will never watch again, home made videos / pictures that aren't worth keeping and so on.
November 14, 201213 yr Author But if you just trash them ...dont they still stay 'somewhere' and still use 'some' space ? I have to admit I am now leaning towards the latest 4th Gen iPad.............but still a bit lol Lynda
November 14, 201213 yr Yes... But now your over thinking, lol From a users point of view, once deleted the space is then available again to use for other things Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
November 14, 201213 yr Its just with the iPad Im not happy about not being able to retro increase storage and also the no flash support that is still niggling with me. I have never come even close to filling my 64gb iPad and if I got another doubt I would bother with more than 32gb version. As for Flash even Adobe seem to be acknowledging its demise and will not be developing it for future android releases Android latest platform to drop Flash support
November 14, 201213 yr Lynda Get a iPad (and right now in comet if they have any left as 10% off is normally impossible to get) Hi Garry, I doubt if Comet will have any left, I went in last Thursday lunchtime, the day the sale started, and they only had one iPad left. In contrast there were tons of TV's and 'white goods' available, but they are usually cheaper online anyway. Online electricals is probably the main reason for the demise of Comet..............who will be next:(

In contrast there were tons of TV's and 'white goods' available, but they are usually cheaper online anyway. Online electricals is probably the main reason for the demise of Comet..............who will be next:( Quite possibly although my local Comet still has them on display so may vary from branch to branch. Of course they may be that dumb as to keep on displaying goods they dont have Agree most of the goods with 10% off can almost certainly be bought elsewhere (even on High St) for less but there were a few bargains. I picked up a Humax HDR FREEVIEW FOX - T2 Hard disk recorder for £153 and cheapest I can find it on net is £200 +. I guess eventually they will bring prices lower but its a bit like a dutch auction to see whos nerve breaks first. What worries me about the demise of places like Comet is how are you meant to look at goods to decide which one you want to buy ?. Online reviews are fine but sometimes it is still nice to see a item in the flesh before parting with cash. It also means the "hot" reviewed product will sell in bucket loads and every thing else will just sit there so can then see manufacturers getting in trouble as well. November 14, 201213 yr It also means the "hot" reviewed product will sell in bucket loads and every thing else will just sit there so can then see manufacturers getting in trouble as well. And the trouble with that situation is that it leads to sham reviews and ratings. How often we see or hear claims of "best supermarket cheese/meat etc seller of the year" or "Voted best xxxx product of the year" etc, all too often the voting through an organisation set up by the "winner". Similarly reviews are often fakes even now or at least done by beneficiaries, and those practices will expand in the situation you highlight.
November 14, 201213 yr Author Well....off I went to have a look, Comet had one 32gb version available but I would rather buy from amazon or Apple.....and probably the 16gb. I decided I liked the feel of the iPad better than the Galaxy Tab.......slowly getting there....... THEN....I spoke to the lad in our office who says he wouldnt get another iPad as he now thinks the Toshiba Tab is good and he wont upgrade his original iPad because he seems to think that once you download the upgrade, Apple have a code inside which slowly runs the speed down until you decide you simply have to buy the new super duper version Mind you, with Apple I wouldnt be surprised if that was true...... He did however confirm that lack of flash was not a problem. You are right Dave....I DO overthink things.......so much so that its now taken me 18 months of cogitating to get THIS far......only benefit is.....if/when I buy the iPad at least I will be four upgraded versions down the line ( I wonder when the iPad5 is due out lol ) Lynda
November 14, 201213 yr You are right Dave....I DO overthink things.......so much so that its now taken me 18 months of cogitating to get THIS far...... Logically, doesn't this long delay through prevarication mean you don't need one and can save the money?
