eZee Quando stolen, possibly?

Featured Replies

I just had phone call from a young lady who claims she has had the keys and charger for her eZee Quando stolen, possible but highly unlikely so naturally I am suspicious.

Let me know if you had your Quando stolen.

Possible that they were in a bag or something that was stolen along with other items? If so then she'll have reported it to the police..........and have a crime reference number!

Very good point, problem solved

in a bag or something

I once saw what my wife had in her bag.... she didn't have a bike charger but there was some very strange stuff that made me ask WTF :o

Sounds very odd, indeed.

There is always the possibility that she carried the charger with her in panniers and put the keys in too, people do silly things sometimes and it could well be the bike isn't stolen.

However, I did call her local police to ask if they have had a report of a stolen Quando, but they hadn't.

Incidentally, the police were able to find her name and address from her mobile phone number and may investigate further.

By coincidence, another lady called me to enquire about replacement keys for her eZee Sprint as they were missing...........all 3 of them. I am inclined to believe this lady is genuine, this has happened before.

eZee bikes are supplied with 3 keys, but some people leave them all on the same keyring.

John if its sold by you, do you not keep frame numbers? My mate with the LBS does then he knows whos bike comes in for service and when it was bought.

Hi Muckymits,

This bike wasn't sold by Cyclezee, we have records of everything we have sold.

Even more suspect

First thing I do when I buy a lock is put 1 key on my ring & 1 on THE keyring that hangs in th kitchen:

The trouble with having a 3rd key is that, as having multiple tape measures & I can't find the currently used one, I tend to just fetch the spare without looking proper as I know there's another one somewhere.......

Even more suspect

The Quando would have been originally sold by one of the previous eZee sellers.

It's surprising the number of people who pick up their new/used car like that and never seperate the keys.

I'm know thinking we should keep one of the three so that we always have a spare as back up to prevent this happening and the customer having the hassle of replacing the lock.

It's a particular problem if the battery is locked on the bike and destroying the lock is the only way to get it off.

That's a really nice thing to think of doing. Maybe give customers the choice of having a key looked after and with an option of paying to have a new one cut and sent to them?

Hey John,

If you'd like to pm me the details of the customer with missing key including frame number etc, i will check our records for you-we kept a key of almost every bike sold.....though it will take me literally hours to find,as a certain someone i work with dropped all 3 boxes of keys and mixed them all up lol!!!

Still,it's worth a try....

I forwarded the other lady to you as we no longer have blanks at the shop-i'm also inclined to believe that she is genuine, but again i may be able to give you a definitive records check if you require it.

Thanks Martin,

I have sent her a text asking for the info.

Of course she may not have bought the Quando from you and may not be the original owner.......or indeed the legal owner.

I will let you know in due course.

Reminds me of when my elderly, slightly forgetful Dad moved into a new flat. He kept the main door key on the original tag complete with the address so that he could remember where he had moved to. He also thought it would be a good idea so that if he lost them someone could post them back to him.:)

I recall there was a car keyring accessory, that displayed your car reg number on it, in case of loss.

Great idea, assuming everybody in the world is honest.

So far the young lady has not responded to my text message, maybe she has resolved the problem or also had her mobile stolen?

The young lady has been in touch this morning.

The good news is she has proof of ownership:), the bad news is the bike was originally supplied by Cyclepoint in Brighton several years ago.

They are no longer in business so it is not possible to get a spare key and her Quando will require a new keyswitch / battery lock:(

Lol

The good news is that you have a sale..

The other good news is that the customer will have their bike back on the road..

There isn't any bad news :p

No sale, just had a text from the young lady to say someone handed a bag containing her keys and charger into a shop, they phoned her and she now has them back, so all is well again.
