the german group zeg is advertising:

-999€ for e-swing (pegasus bike) a pedelec with sanyo motor and nimh 24v 9ah

-what is your knowledge about the sanyo motor? in comparison with others?

 

-they offer too the pegasus e-bike1 for 1399€ with sanyo motor . here in the advertising i read that the motor is not driven by twist grip but by the foot of the driver i mean by the cycling. how is that for a hub motor in comparison with twist grip. i dont understand why here 1399€ as it seems to be similar to the e-swing but i will ask them what difference is in it

 

-and they offer the bordeaux pedelec from rixe with the panasonic unit for 1799€. they write that one can choose the frame for lady ("wave") or frame shap for men. the question here is i think by kalkhof the agattu is 1800€ and pro connect is 2200€? and the only difference is the frame(?) is it so? difference between agattu and pro connect only in the frame? if so why such a price difference?

The Sanyo motor has quite a history. It was originally designed by the the US Birkestrand Corporation and sold as the Motorised Wheel, though possibly manufactured by Sanyo at that time. More recently it's been used by Giant in their Suede and Argue models, and is now the motor in the new Giant Twist 1 and 2 models.

 

It's been a high drag motor without a freewheel, and on the new Twist series it's used for regeneration, not very successfully though. It's also not particularly powerful, our A to B magazine tested the Twist and highlighted the slowness of the bike.

 

The price difference between the Kalkhoff and Agattu bikes is about the construction and components. The Agattu is heavily built and has standard, though good quality components, the Pro Connect is has some higher range components and is constructed with top end light alloys, making it much lighter. As usual with that sort of lightweight bike, there's always a price premium, as you can observe in any good bike shop.

I had a giant suede with the sanyo motor,although it only did 15mph on the flat it seemed quite powerfull up hills,but the drag from the motor when unassisted is one of the worst,it also seemed to drain the 36v nimh battery quickly(average probably 15 miles) so may not be suited to a 24v battery.
