  1. Thanks for all the replies,i think it looks like new bike time, the battery will not even start charging now,all five lights are flashing if you press the button, there are new batteries on ebay for around £180,but i dont think they are compatible with my black 4 amp charger, google search is only coming up with batteries around £400 for a 24ah battery,i would be happy with a 15 ah battery or less as i dont go far.
  2. It is lion, do cells usually die completely, do they ever just need a wire soldering back in place,I had the idea that the voltage gradually dropped rather than completely dying.
  3. It's a raleigh dover bike, not sure how old as i bought it second hand, has been working fine but went for a ride yesterday and it dropped from full 3 lights, to 1 flashing light after about 1 mile,it was fully charged 5 lights on battery, now battery lights just flashing.
  4. My 26v battery is only reading 18v,I'm guessing a detached wire somewhere, has anyone opened one up and repaired, or is it toast.
  5. Yes I have received it,thanks I will arrange something.
  6. Yes if you could leave me a number privately, I will arrange to come over.
  7. Hi does anybody know what motor is used on the old vikng ego folding bikes, also diensions of motor size,im looking at running 48v through one,has anbody done this before,or if size is similar replace with an ezee torq mk2 motor.
  8. I like to reply that i used to own one of those old fashioned bikes years ago, wearing lycra is realy trying to cheat the wind, toe clips give extra assistance, carbon frames are cheating weight, extra gears, most cyclists try and make it easier to pedal,so are cheating in some form.
  9. Still looking if anybody has an unloved bike taking up space.
  10. Anything cheap and not to far from birmingham, broken electric or unwanted manual bike, for winter project.
  11. Anybody near birmingham,up to 20 miles approx have an old folding bike, electric or none electric, working or needing major repairs,so long as its cheap for a winter project.
  12. I think with drones the risk of bringing an aeroplane down, and venturing into goverment and other high priority sites, forced new legislation, bikes are just a very minor possible nuisance, and are very far down the list of problems that could need attention.
  13. Hi this is for a work colleague, her partners carrera cuts out and is showing e 42 on display,he has been told it means a faulty cable and will cost £75,anybody know if this is correct, thanks paul.
  14. I have ridden electric bikes for around 15 years, and there is no way i would go back to a manual bike, they are just too much hard work on hills, but lawn mowers, i have just purchased a £26 push mower from argos,to do the first cut of the year (yes i know its a bit late but i hate gardening). my old petrol mower was dead after several years of abuse. and i needed a cheap replacement, pretty much every year i leave it till the grass is long, and i have killed several electric mowers as the motor struggles and overheats on long grass,so after reading lots of advice, push mowers are said to be more suitable for people who cut the grass frequently(not for me then),well i decided to buy one anyway and thought i will just strim the grass, and then try and keep on top of it,so i returned home with my £26 mower put it together and adjusted it to its highest setting, eager to try it out i set to work on the long grass, believe it or not it cut much better and easier than any electric mower i have ever owned, including a few flymo rotary mowers that would have slowed to a stop,i thought overall my old petrol rotary mower would have cut straight through, with less backwards and forwards passes, but thinking back it would have cut out as the long grass clogged up the grassbox,so overall the ability to just cut grass without filling with petrol, without starting and stopping and then restarting, then the hassle of going through to the front garden, moving the bins to allow access, no more it is so light i might even get the missus to use it.
  15. It all depends on the motor, some are very free wheeling some are a pain to use without assistance, even some geared hub motors offer very noticable resistance, some do improve after a long running in period.
  16. I seem to remember a few years back,an electric bike was not considered to be a cheaper option than running a motorbike, especially with a 30 mile a day commute, and was done more for exercise or enjoyment than any cost saving, also some bikes have not been the most reliable,it could be a long hard journey if the motor stops assisting, have you considered adding a kit to your own bike, cheaper generally more reliable and you could get a better battery.
  17. Electric bikes are far more fun,and lead to more use, kids would probably get more exercise than one laying unused, could even replace some dads taxi journeys, they are also harder to pull wheelies on in most cases,so may be used more sensibly.
  18. At any price point,i am sure a kit based bike could be built, with very little effort that offers better performance, and better components.
  19. Going back ten years, there was a huge problem with batteries, from one of at the time, best rated and fastest ebikes, the sole uk seller washed there hands of any responsibillity, and pointed the finger at the manufacturer.if an electric bike is not capable of getting you around,at less than six months old the seller should attempt to repair or replace the bike, and if a repair is not satisfactory a refund should be given, read your rights and do not be fobbed off.
  20. Yes i go quite a bit,its a car ride there for me though,i take my kids to play on swings etc there,so apart from the occassional walk around the lake,i miss out on the rest of the park,i thought it was arrow months ago,but when i saw your location i thought not,but when i saw you ride past the car park on your last ride,i knew it was,are you local to there.
  21. was that at arrow valley
  22. There are plenty of low cost on ebay and gumtree, just beware low cost used often means an expensive battery could be needed, how low cost are you looking at,then we may help advise.
  23. Hi jerry, you inspired me to make my own a123 battery pack several or more years ago,i am a little surprised that with your experience, you are not building something yourself,or at least adding a kit to something,i am sure you could put something far better, lighter and more reliable and much cheaper together.or at least better performing ,bigger battery and better components.
