Hello from Finland !

Featured Replies

I and my wife have now had pedelecs for four years and I have never spend 2,5 k€ better way. They have payed themselves almost twice and I don't now any funnier way to to move from one place to another. Now it's time to upgrade and this community seems to be one of the best places to find useful information for my upgrade project. Now its winter and snow here but it's a good opportunity to find out what kind of pedelecs to purchase next.

This is what it looks like here now:

Welcom. As far as I can see, your bike is the same as the Kudos Sport, which is the same as my first electric bike from Sunlova. There's too many bikes to choose from now, and everybody has a different opinion of what's best. Good luck.

Hi Tinu, a warm welcome from the forum to offset your cold conditions!

We have a number of members in Finland, including Sherman, Marlon, Zombie, Magnuken and Tkarttu. I believe you lucky people are allowed 1000 watts on e-bikes there, to encourage their use.

1000 W is a dream only :-), 250 W is our reality in EU.

I was going by this recent post in here Tinu, but it seems from what you say that the Endless Sphere post is incorrect. :(

There are certain circumstances where member states can vary this law, which is why I had accepted the posted information.

Pedelec power limit is 250 W and the assisted speed limit is 25 km/h. It is possible to have more than 250 W but it's not a pedelec anymore and it needs insurance and registration etc... then it's something else (moped ?).

If your government approves it's possible to have a separate class between pedelecs and mopeds, such as Germany's S class which permits 500watt rating and 45 kph assist. The regulations for that are fixed by the national government.

A second option applies when the law is first imposed, in Finland's case when they joined the EU in 1995. Then an application could have been made to the European Commission for a national only variation in the pedelec class regulations.

Otherwise there's only the moped class option.

Welcome Tinu,

A few questions then?

Why do you want to change your bike?

What range and battery's did you have.

What range and price did you think you expect.

Flat or hilly?

Good questions. To be honest, I'm still trying to find good reasons for changing my ebike. It's the same kind of dilemma as with the car. When you have made up your mind, it's only question of time to find many very good reasons to buy a new one.:-)

The battery is 9 Ah/36V frog type and the range is from 60 km to 100 km depending on how much assistance is used.

My plan for next step is to get a very good hybrid/trekking (Haibike Sduro Trekking RC? - opinions ? ) ebike for every day use and then some day to buy maybe a good quality used full suspension normal mountain bike with 26" wheels to be converted as center motor eMTB. They can possibly use the same battery pack. Maybe next winter project.

Flat or hilly? Both - in certain limits. Full suspension to forest paths and hills and Haibike for commuting.

What about a road bike and a full susp bike both with a CD from whoosh or similar then you have one system with common components and batteries?

Rather two good specialist bikes than one compromise?

Absolutely this makes sense. Next thing is to find more information about mid drive kits.

Or get a Riese & Muller Delite that will do both, be very reliable and reduce the burden in your bank account.
