August 22, 201510 yr I've only recently rediscovered cycling so my knowledge of bikes is rooted in my cycling days as a teenager - and books weren't very often on my activity list in those days. So....my knowledge of bikes is not only very rudimentary but, more importantly, is only about bikes as they were in the 60s - never mind electric bikes. While I know I can get lots of information on line (including youtube etc), I would really like to get a book that I can hold in my hands and flip through the pages. The question is...which one? Anyone have a recommendation? It needs to be up to date, to not assume I know anything about bikes but not be too techy (I'm just a casual cyclist) and, ideally, very readable.
August 22, 201510 yr This question comes up frequently. I've often wondered what the Haynes Bike Book is like. It seems to get positive reviews: http://www.evanscycles.com/products/book/-haynes-the-bike-book-ec005718?country=GB¤cy=GBP&esvt=1240-GOUKE256468&esvq=&esvadt=999999-0-38022-1&esvcrea=61235557496&esvplace=&esvd=m&esvaid=50080&gclid=Cj0KEQjwu-CuBRCQ2byQtMep7e0BEiQABQKlkbnTAYIV_qDfytmSQJkQtuEyYPEjzKs-izX0osfvrJEaAgFW8P8HAQ ...Perhaps you could try it and report back? Thanks - and apologies if I'm reinventing an existing thread(s). Yes, I had seen that one and it looks quite good and reasonably up to date (2012). Might go for it but I'm going to hang on a bit and see if there are other suggestions to consider also.
August 23, 201510 yr Try here. http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/smiles.21876/#post-274038 This book also popped up as an advert on my FB page yesterday, but I have no idea if it is of any use. http://www.merlincycles.com/zinn-and-the-art-of-mountain-bike-maintenance-74609.html

Will put this one on the short list.
August 26, 201510 yr Author Well, having had a look around, but being impatient, I opted for what looks like a bargain. Latest edition (admittedly 2nd hand) of Bike Repair Manual by Chris Sidwell for £5.96 (free p&p). Will feedback (if I remember) on the extent to which it suited me as a total novice.
