July 16, 20178 yr Nice. Great battery idea hidden in the plastic tub, but where's the controller hidden?
July 16, 20178 yr Great looking bike, very tempted to try and build something similar for my commute.
July 21, 20178 yr Dave, Would love to see a pic of the controller/LCD. Also is it PAS only ? Ah the controller is in the hub like the KeyDe one! What about the rear motor I guess the controller is seperate ? Sorry I really should read the thread properly all the pics are here Jerry
July 21, 20178 yr I think I need to find a black rim and spokes: Dave nice Halo black spokes here on ebay and decent price. JE James do them for half this price but not all spoke sizes. A nice black Mavic disc based rim would look good. PS I checked with the supplier and they only do 36 hole versions at the moment. Jerry Edited July 21, 20178 yr by jerrysimon
July 21, 20178 yr Ah the controller is in the hub like the KeyDe one! No, the controller is in the tub on the frame.
July 21, 20178 yr The front one has the controller inside the hub though ? Jerry No' it's a normal controller as shown in the photo. Normally, I'd put it in one of those tool bags under the seat. PS I checked with the supplier and they only do 36 hole versions at the moment. Jerry Bummer about the 36 holes only. If I like this motor, I'll probably buy another to get a nice black wheel. I can't try the bike yet because I'm still waiting for my crankset to fit the pedal sensor.
July 21, 20178 yr Yes the new controllers these days seem tiny compared to the old ones when we started!. Jerry
July 21, 20178 yr It's in the tub. Hope you don't mind but I like your idea so much I'm already planning using it on a future build. Something like this, it means I can get my lipo battery pack in a saddle bag.
July 21, 20178 yr Sorry, you have to pay for a licence if you want to copy my ideas. Come to think of it, it was my idea to get one of those tiny Xiongda motors, so you need to pay for a licence for that too. My legal department will contact you to sort it out. BTW, if you want to copy my battery, that one is licence free. i donated the idea for the good of mankind. I have a spare base to fit the bottle if you want it.

Thats good, I really like your battery idea it's amazing and it's definately on my todo list so may be in touch to see if you still have the base plate at the time.
July 22, 20178 yr Have you got a welder for the cells ? Been thinking of getting one of those for a while. Larger batteries are cheaper now but I still prefer something smaller for my conversions. Jerry
July 22, 20178 yr I have one of the cheap Aliexpress spot welders. It's great for welding the first nickel strip to the cells, but when you need to weld another on top, it seems to struggle. There's a guy on ES selling hand spot-welders, powered from a lipo pack. They're relatively cheap and they seem to work OK.
July 22, 20178 yr d8veh, interested to hear more about this motor once you get the bike up and running. Which motor exactly is it that you have? The website seems to ominously call the 'motor with high torque' etc. Any problems with delivery/import duty? also interested in what controller you are using?
July 22, 20178 yr No problem with duty because I haven't paid it yet, and Awol gave me half of the £23.80. I haven't been able to test the bike yet because I've been waiting for my new cranks for 2 weeks. I decided to chase the seller on Ebay, but when I checked the tracking, it showed that the item had been delivered 10 days ago, and worse still, there was a signature that wasn't mine. I was gutted. I chased around all morning trying to find the postman to find out where it had gone, but i couldn't find him today.fed up, i decided to sit down and have a rest and a cup of tea and try and rationalise, why, if it had been wrongly delivered, hadn't the recipient handed it back to the postman. It's very unlikely that anybody else could use it. Then I had a eureka moment. Maybe the postman delivered it when i wasn't in and hid it somewhere. Normally, they put a note through the door that says, "in shed" or wherever. I thought I'd have a hunt around, and there it was in the shed, so I can now finish it off. Here's my new battery base - demoed in the bit that I cut off. The bottle holder's tongue goes between those two lugs and a cable tie prevents it from bouncing or being removed:
July 22, 20178 yr glad you found the cranks! would you mind pointing out the motor and controller?: https://xiongdamotor.en.alibaba.com/productgrouplist-220560510/NEW_Double_speed_Motor.html?spm=a2700.8304367.0.0.6c0c14712oMzrX
July 22, 20178 yr You have to email bonnie@xiongda.com.cn. She's very helpful and has quite good English.
July 22, 20178 yr oh excellent, is it just known as their 'new superlight motor' and not shown on the site? I will send her a mail, are you using a controller from them also?
July 22, 20178 yr The bottle holder's tongue goes between those two lugs and a cable tie prevents it from bouncing or being removedI wondered what the lugs were for, that's clever thinking. I was pondering this morning over it bouncing out going over bumps.
July 22, 20178 yr When I checked the designation you quote it wasn't there. Dave when I first saw that pic I thought it was a saucepan given the breakfast background! I need glasses! Jerry
July 23, 20178 yr Yes. I don't know if there's anything special about it, but it's a sensorless one and it has the connector for the speed sensor.
