February 18, 20197 yr Hi does anyone know if the dual power kits on sale are actualy street legal when programed to 250w cheers Dunk
February 18, 20197 yr If you are talking about the Cyclotricity kits, then, judging by their size, they are a 1000w nom. motor marked "250w restricted", which is not the same. I'm sure they believe that this complies with the law, they have been on sale for a few years, but knowing what I do, I would be very nervous arguing my case in court against someone with the same knowledge.
February 18, 20197 yr Remember, you're innocent until proven guilty. It's not easy to prove the rating of a motor unless it's written on the label. That's even if it were sent to some lab with sophisticated measuring equipment because an electric bike's motor rating has little relation to how much power it produces. On the other hand, a bike's speed is very easy to measure and you'll be in trouble if yours goes much faster than the limit of 25 km/h +10%. Setting the Cyclotricity to 250w mode turns it into a dog, so that's not really an option.
