  1. What sort of dealer does not have the equipment to work on the bikes they service? not sure I would trust them with your bike SW. What's in thier workshop? a pair of pliers and a 5mm allen key?
  2. No, pretty much all motors come with the same 9 pin connector and an extension cable. Be aware some Bafang motors are 3 or 6 pin, check with the vendor before purchase.
  3. Count the links in your chain, you need 10 more than you have. Most are 116 link which should be fine.
  4. Sorry, don't understand, too short? What chainring do you have?
  5. Just run it and see how it performs. Unless you are pulling over 25 amps from it, you prob. won't know the difference. Most chinese cells are around 2500mAh unless they are Surefires.
  6. Why 10 speed? If your old chain is worn get a new 8 speed.
  7. I just explained why the print is misaligned. Fake cells will show their true colours under testing, but this is not so easy with an assembled pack.
  8. You have one of the older 30 amp variants, so I believe it should run fine on either 48/52v. I think the newer 28 amp models you have to match to the voltage you want, or flash the fimware? Display should work OK, but with some you may not get battery voltage on a fully charged 52v battery. Have a look on ES for more detailed info.
  9. The printing is misaligned because as Stanbike suggests the cells are in alternating rows. The printing looks OK to me, but I'm no expert on fake cells. Sometimes the insulators can be the wrong colour and the legs on the + cap can differ from genuine. You should be able to find more info on the net, Google "fake 25r cells". Is that one of the packs being sold on Ebay?
  10. It's aluminium, so quite soft and easy to file.
  11. There is a ridge in the centre of the BB where the threads meet from each side. Remove this from around the circumference of the tube and your motor will fit without the use of a hammer.
  12. The Aikema/Q 100 H/CST would be a good choice at around 2kg, but would mean buying from China and building up yourself. http://www.topbikekit.com/akm100cst-cassette-36v250w-ebike-rear-driving-hub-motor-3236-holes-p-728.html
  13. A clear photo of the BB without the motor fitted will help identify the area that needs filing away.
  14. I have a Sturmey Archer S-RK3 disc hub 32h 135mm with less than 100 miles on it if it's a viable alternative. https://www.sturmey-archer.com/en/products/detail/s-rk3
  15. If you have owned the bike from new, the key no. may be recorded on the paperwork/handbook you got with the bike, if you still have it.
  16. You know you want it Neal, go on, make an offer ;)would save building the cargo bike, i'm sure it would tow a trailer fine:Dit's deff. worth keeping in the current thread list for the grin/disbelief/horror factor.
  17. Good find Neal, have wondered about Tony a few times over the last couple of years and hoped he was OK, always a bit worrying when a regular poster disappears for no apparant reason, esp. in that time. Glad to see he's been keeping busy, what a great machine!! Prob. a good job his girlfriend lived elsewhere, he would never have got away with building that in the bedroom:)
  18. If you want a bit more power then a shunt mod, use search on here, will do this or a replacement 17/20 amp controller.
  19. Unless you have reduced the C5 setting on the display, your bike will give you full power, 14 amps, on highest PAS setting or full throttle if you have one fitted.
  20. TBH i'm not up to date with the changes that have been made to the HD drive units recently. I understood it needed firmware flashing to run on 52v, but not sure if that stops it running on 48v. I think there is more choice of 48v batteries than 52v.
  21. Can't really tell much from that photo, but assuming your motor has hall sensors, then it should do the job. You may have to change connectors or do some soldering. Looks like it may have self learning wires to sinc. the motor.
  22. The new display is not compatible with your controller, hence limited function of PAS. Unless you can get an original display you will need to replace the display and controller box as a matching pair. Your new display is an analog one, I don't think you will find a controller to match it.

  24. Yes, they are technically illegal, although identical to other motors marked at 250w, it's a marketing thing. As long as you comply with the 15.5 mph assisted speed restriction, you would be very unlucky to land in any trouble, but this is obviously your own decision to make.
  25. Looks like the vendors offer of a new controller is the way to go, shipping can be within 2 weeks, but sometimes longer.
