June 26, 20196 yr My employers have bicycle parking in the car park under a plastic canopy. Due to congestion they put some more bike 'hoops' in front of the canopy but obviously these are unprotected from the weather. I arrived at work last week and all the protected hoops have a single bike secured to them. Now my ebike is waterproof but I'm not going to leave it outside in heavy rain for 9 hours, so I doubled up with another bike. At the end of my shift I find a snotty note stuck to my bike telling me to use an unused hoop and not inconvenience other riders. Really? Aren't these hoops designed to have a bike either side? Is it me? I'd be interested in forum members opinions on this. Darren
June 26, 20196 yr It's perfectly ok to park on and lock to both sides Darren, done all the time in my area. That note writer was clearly a selfish person, your bike on the other side could hardly have inconvenienced them to any degree. .
June 26, 20196 yr It can be awkward to get a bike out if the bars from another overlap it, which is I guess why the guy complained. Suggest that the other guy puts his bike in facing out, so that when you put yours facing in, he won't be hindered. Instead, you'll be slightly hindered putting your in. Second suggestion: take an old bike to work and leave it locked under cover, then you can always lock your electric bike to the other side of the rack and nobody will complain. If anybody asks, tell them it's your emergency bike in case your electrics break down, to save you from pedalling a heavy bike without power.
June 27, 20196 yr Author If only I had an old bike:p I have always parked my bike doubled up with the handlebars the opposite way around to the bike already parked there without thinking about it. I think I simply found someone in a bad mood that day and I'll just carry on as I always have. Darren

Darren Surely, if you had parked your bike the other way round, it would make their bike harder to get out, which is what put them in a bad mood.
June 27, 20196 yr Author My bike was facing in, the other was facing out. My bike was the harder to get in and out. Darren
June 27, 20196 yr Provide your own rain cover and park where you can. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-Bicycle-Bike-Cover-Waterproof-UV-Weather-Rust-Resistant-210cm-x-100cm/282709748956?hash=item41d2d06cdc&enc=AQADAAADEFjVrDbVsZ8oH%2F8PNHtt9VX4%2Fw7FZcmMuqsX8uaFEduV2vwXH3%2Fu2B6cVL8GKJKAYyN6aY8wYp9wQYUgtQTRkt5AgnSVS5yeq5%2BwIuZ5%2B8i10SvpWf%2FsQ7gqfl9ZVzy6tIC4w47d2mUMb8FMT%2BiLc9Uufv7FcZS6GE8LEf7HINdq7EcXNil81zpFlZyMF6VUQyFU2nPzAB1AfFpiK6Bzn0XRvIKZzSA1WijZz3O4gTqH8RS1LJRHpk6URkH2UPQoc4wY27FuhZ5KSDEBJxCF0gu32d3ysQYfSk1x4TBN8MxQqIVQUQp1LACx%2B6aZn8FyrQOp6xMCRtY%2FYNys2QFlq2p2zlwyFof9ihilUzAHRnCONI4kOGfDGNryIc8xvvues5Ee2lq2uLj%2BXgmH%2BeC7k9wzUnPYX75KXHTGxZFwMkAmuQAc5af0CFbsH7U9qPXFStE1cA4PgDyjHMkAyWg86Yq4aCJ2KDJee4MJwJ1Bl0%2BYG4rX0ynTNbU1ROuouuAZToHXpDee05sboChqKfLyw1zxq7Ub1Kdyj%2B0u9RW5%2BY2QOnHgX4XMfZd%2FIifqTbbprgKICF%2B2TOvNErIzpSD7ernEKBbPTPQqWFTYLDOfT4lWXc2ElrhSPh7pgi4JYwofv2yYqCrFBUW3QoHBtVL4SzgdwNRy0BfUFbXwkDbEyzdGNJUhMeI7v1y%2Bdcn0L1FKBoF7PUWr%2FwxK0IKtS%2B9FmRki%2BJFNEkiBvvP6Bas%2BcxVjf9JzZ9tJcsVD35QhKJzu8eyp%2BrwC8FSG6KOT05bZYAz4DNdg9Ja7s2AIzyo4jd9l%2B3Cef92VcvNYvwCu4jczTx0GbegHYZXkOwc7qxsziYy%2BT6LgnxJ6bFY7c8FMaERjHxFMkREDh6a9s7ONGTyfrYOB7YmJ6l1SjpMo%2F0ykl2w20lKlxE0mBQvebf2Rv4m%2B6f1VvHRw6pICZyVfOmzOXGum5rRSP2mLETID9K0%2FlkfSwjckIqMzdu9aPKDvB4ctRhOMjbRtvYAwDOSqaa6R3Udk0zj9HHDmCZ03OPr1XyY%3D&checksum=282709748956944d5f2c0cdd4a938c0f5b92320fd89f
June 27, 20196 yr I think I simply found someone in a bad mood that day The daft thing is Darren that it probably took them longer to write the note than it took to get their bike out! A bad mood indeed, bad enough to make their own life more difficult. .
June 27, 20196 yr With not enough places to park and lock my bike I cram it in and lock it up wherever a bit of space allows and very often on the opposite side of a bike already parked. I must admit I have never considered the handlebar situation as whenever I have had a handlebar locking situation when removing my bike I have just lifted the front of my bike and wheeled it backwards being careful not to snag cables. My greatest concern is not to lock the other bike as well as mine by mistake. Sounds like I am due a few angry notes!
June 28, 20196 yr A thumbtack discretely placed under a tyre of the bike concerned... Just your way of saying thank you for the kind note...
