January 15, 20206 yr Hi all, Carrera Crossfuse picked up and ride home real nice. There was however some slight noise while peddling which didn't sound right so need to get checked. Halfords guy recommended £70 pa servicing saying it was a condition of Bosch warranty that your bike was serviced. I have until this weekend to decide whether I take this out. I'd welcome any views. thanks Mark

Bike shops usually include a checkup before selling, being in the price paid, why would it need a service that needs to be paid for? Buy a car new and have to pay for a service before you can use it???? Apologies if I have misunderstood what REALLY happened. Andy
January 15, 20206 yr Author Ah sorry - no its an annual policy which includes one of their bronze services and 2 silver services in the year - https://www.halfords.com/advice/cycling/service/service-centre?rmsrc=1&cm_mmc=GooglePPC-_-PACS%20-%20Tools%20%26%20Maintenance%20-%20Service-_-Service-_-Text%20Ad&source=ppc&_$ja=tsid:57505%7Ccid:1739468379%7Cagid:69803797642%7Ctid:aud-271742666404:kwd-367337404%7Ccrid:224645307966%7Cnw:g%7Crnd:1240574794794932695%7Cdvc:c%7Cadp:%7Cmt:p%7Cloc:9046225&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI176chpyG5wIVV-DtCh3XFwawEAAYASAAEgK9nfD_BwE

I don't think that they can service the motor anyhow.
January 15, 20206 yr Author I think the suggestion was the electrics wouldn't be covered. I'd be surprised if Bosch really are that fussy
January 15, 20206 yr Halfrauds are trying it on, the Bosch warranty is not dependent on you having the bike regularly serviced by them especially as Halfrauds wont touch the motor if anything goes wrong they send it back.

I'd welcome any views. thanks Mark It's possible that Halford's warranty of the Crossfuse requires that a specified service and maintenance plan is followed using a specialist dealer or themselves, similar to the warranty on cars. I'd have thought they'd have made that clear in the documentation that came with the bike. The only actions their service plans specify for electric bikes is "servicing and regreasing of electrical connections", the Bosch components require little or no maintenance. So, you might need to get your bike serviced at Halfords for their warranty cover on the complete bike but that's not a requirement for the Bosch warranty of its components.
January 15, 20206 yr The warranty of the Crossfuse does not require you to take out a service plan, I know because I own one and have had one replaced at Halfords and I did not take out a service plan and it was never questioned. All they said was that they are not allowed to touch the motors and replaced the bike.
January 15, 20206 yr When I bought my Carrera Vengeance from Halfords nearly a year ago I (foolishly) took out a one year service contract with them. However, I was so disgusted with the service I received from them at the outset (mudguard fell off on the way home, and the six week check simply wasn't done) I asked for (and received) my money back. Pay as you go, I would advise.
January 16, 20206 yr Halfords have their uses, they are usually local so much easier than dealing with mail order bike problems, test rides are available, open 7 days a week and you can use British cycle club discounts, you just have to make sure to check a bike when you get it as their pre delivery checks and servicing are useless.
January 16, 20206 yr Independent bicycle shops are generally far better than the likes of Halfords, keener to help, far more experienced and generally keen to do business.
January 16, 20206 yr Never had any queries from Bosch re servicing when we have had warranty issues on a bike we've sold.
January 16, 20206 yr Independent bicycle shops are generally far better than the likes of Halfords, keener to help, far more experienced and generally keen to do business. I agree, except that in my (limited) experience the independent bicycle shops are much less helpful about test rides than Halford's is. And sometimes rather too keen/pushy to do business.
January 16, 20206 yr It is just Halfords trying it on in a bid to sell a servicing plan. "trying it on"??? Halfords lied, they clearly can't be trusted.
January 16, 20206 yr I agree, except that in my (limited) experience the independent bicycle shops are much less helpful about test rides than Halford's is. And sometimes rather too keen/pushy to do business. I guess that would depend on the shop in question. In my case, my LBS couldn't have been more helpful, I basically spent a whole Saturday morning in there, asking questions about every aspect of the bikes, I tested just about every bike in the shop, couldn't decide, so went back a few weeks later and rode them all again, they were happy to let me try all the bikes for as long as I wanted, and eventually I made up my mind and ordered one. When it arrived I didn't even have to collect it, they delivered it to my home. When the bike was due it's first service, they came and got it, at a time that suited me, carried out the service, and returned it to me the same day. Their service and customer care has been exemplary. There's a lot of horror stories these days concerning poor customer care, so reading this thread has prompted me to give praise where it's due. The shop in question? Electrifying Cycles.
