Nyon or Kiox retrofit?

Featured Replies

Do you have to pay extra for the lock feature? I see "restore purchase" mentioned.

I think it was something like £7 GBP

Bit the bullet, ordered a 2021 Nyon retrofit kit from Germany, which is on eBay for €310 euros (£265, plus £14 shipping and possibly another £50 brexit fees on-top).

2 available, now 1 left. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bosch-Nyon-BUI350-REPLACEMENTS-KIT-incl-Display-Holder-Control-Unit-2021-/124986539612?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=707-127634-2357-0

Good choice. Let us know how you get on installing it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Turned up today. There was indeed £55 Brexit charges, and £12 customs charges. So about £320 on total.

Not fitted it yet, but charged it up, updated firmware and had a tinker. So far impressed. Very responsive and comprehensive.

Great news. When are you planning on installing it?

Interesting development, I took the plastic housing off to see what the job looks like, and to my untrained eye, I don't need to even touch the motor mounts, I can access the holes the wires come out of, in-situ, in my Haibike.

Anyone confirm?

Mines a Cube so not the same but by the pictures it looks like it could be quite an easy job. Probably get it done in 10 minutes ;)
Turns out the problem was not getting to the down tube, but getting the old lead out, I have left it in situ and ran the new one alongside. And round the motor, not under (there is plenty of room behind the plastic housing to go around rather than under, so go knows why haibike ran the cable there)
just take out 2 of the motor bolts and then swing the motor out the way and can then remove the old cable.

I did that in the end. I really wanted to avoid touching motor bolts, due to aligntment issues and torque settings. In the end, it's all assembled, I just need to tighten the Torx T30 screws when my amazon torque wrench arrives tomorrow (mine didn't go low enough), and buying a cycle torque wrench was only £24, still much cheaper than getting some trainee at my local Bosch centre, who didn't know anything about what the job entailed, or even if it's something they could do charging me £50 an hour, or part thereof. I now own a cycle level 5nm to 25nm torque wrench and also know the work has been done correctly :)

i have 2 motors and can swap them out in 15 mins i have a torque wrench but just do them up as tight as i can.

I saw the horror stories of stripping the threads on the TORX screws into the motor, which sounds expensive..

All fitted and working. Went for a ride, as so far impressed with the unit, it's attractive and responsive.

My only wish would be some widgets for Bluetooth music controls.

Glad you got it fitted easily. That weekend job turned out to be a mid-week job. I guess you couldn’t wait until the weekend to get it installed. :)

Interesting that you say it is responsive, I find mine is quite sluggish at times and sometimes doesn’t respond to a touch and I have to do it again. I do have a screen protector on it so I wonder whether that might be causing it.

The navigation can be a bit weird at times. I planned a round trip on Komoot the other day starting at home, going to a couple of waypoints and then back home. As I was leaving I switched it on to navigate and it just said you’re at your destination. As I rode away it kept wanting me to do a U-turn to go back home. It was completely ignoring the two waypoints that were in the route. It may be user error, I’ll have to try experiment.

Haven't tried route planning yet, it's all set up to do so. My primary purchase reason was the smarts, not so much the routing, but the cost gap and upgrade hassle that I also needed to do for KIOX, it made sense to go all in with the NYON, rather than partially in.

Will plan a weekend route and see how it goes and post here.

I can help with that. I did something similar to me, I planned a route to start from a friend's house, started the navigation, but actually met him on the way. The navigation was obsessed about us going to his house (the official start point) before it would do anything else.

To fix; On the main navigation screen, there is a button you can change where routing starts from, and it defaulted to programmed start point. I changed it to next waypoint and it sorted itself out. It sounds like the same problem. I will try and find the exact wording s location of the button.

Perhaps this is now a bit off topic, and move to a nyon '21 thread...

I have the same thing with Kamoot on the Nyon 21. I think when adding the way points on the map, it’s not quite that precise and sometimes wants me to go down a drive, then back again. It doesn’t like it if you don’t do it and as you say, can nag you.

Thanks. I’ll try that next time.
