Motor identification for controller settings

Evening all, I have on order a new KT T06S controller and LCD for my bike. While I’m waiting I’m trying to figure out settings for the Motor.

 

it’s a volt bike and has a spintech motor. The code on the side is SYA2S3626QL3019S1 Does anyone have any idea what this code signifies? I have found some evidence that it may be a rebranded Bafang but can’t be certain of this.

Its a ShengYi 36v motor for a 26" wheel. the rest is the model number, production date and location.

There aren't any motor specific settings that aren't obvious.

You don't need to worry about that. I've never had to change that parameter from default. In the worst case, you speed display will be out a bit, so you can adjust until it matches your GPS.

Shengyi hubs vary widely from1.4:3 to 1.12 and have varying magnets 14 - 20.

Otherwise P1 is quite easy to adjust once every thing is fitted and up and running.

Set the lcd max speed to 25kmh and go for a ride with GPS to correlate speed, set P1 80 to start with to see how far the LCD speed is out. If it reads low adjust P1 up by factor of 1, if it isn't far out keep doing so until they match or are very close.

If the LCD readout is higher reduce P1 by factor of 1 until they match.

Once P1 is set your speed should be quite accurate if you change the lcd max speed.

So I fitted my new controller today and changed a couple of settings based on info from here. The motor seems to be very noisy and the throttle only works intermittently and is very jerky. I guess so. The motor wire has 9 cores. I have changed C2 to 0 and this seems to have fixed things.

Also strange, the manual says C2 goes from 0 to 8. I can only select 0 or 1 ?
You probably should have given the coloured lcd 8 a miss and gone with the lcd3 it is a better no nonsense display. C2/0 is always the default setting.

Oh well, we live and learn. I’ll persevere with it and see how I get on. I can always change the LCD later if this one proves to be an issue. They’re not exactly expensive anymore

Can anyone offer an explanation of how torque simulation mode is supposed to work? The chinglish in the manual is not clear to me. I’ve tried P3/0 and P3/1 and can’t seen any obvious difference!

 

“P3 is power assist control mode setting, when P3 parameter setting is1, power assist control mode is gear 5 of "imitation torque control" mode, when P3 parameter setting is 0, power assist control mode is gear 5 of "speed control" mode. P3 parameter needs to be determined according to the distributed function of the controller, its setting range is 0 or 1”

P3=0 is current control, where each level gives a different current (power) and max speed is the lower of what you have set or whatever the motor can spin to,

 

P3=1 is speed control, where each level gives a different maximum speed, and maximum current is allowed in each level.

 

Torque is proportional to current, so under current control, you get a different torque in each level, while as torque is the same in all levels under speed control, though it is subject to algorithms related to your actual speed compared with the max speed in each level, and whatever setting you have torque decreases in the upper speed ranges due to the back emf limiting the current.

 

The main difference you see or feell is during startup in the lower levels. On level 1 under current control, you get about 60w to 100w, so power feels soft and controllable. On level 1 under speed control, you get full power initially (maybe 600w), so a much more aggressive and uncontrollable start.

 

Both systems have advantages and disadvantages, but most people prefer the current control.

VFR400, have you got your P1 and P0 reversed as it seems to contradict what it says in the manual? Of course the manual could be wrong !!

Yes. Its because they say it backwards in the manual. why don't they start with zero, then 1
