Battery

Featured Replies

Hi all, just wondering what the possibilities are of putting another marque of battery on my giant twist sport C's lite. I can find very little information on my bike. I have only just bought it quite cheap but it was with no batteries or charger. I know a bit about DC currents but can find no info on components. For example the battery out socket/plug has 3 wires, I assume that is +/- but the third is for what? Heat cut out? Voltage check? Does anyone out there have wiring diagrams and or info on the components. Thanks in advance all info welcome

If the battery discharge has more then two wires, it rules out a generic battery type and means trouble.

With any Giant battery I think you will need a proprietary battery so may not be worth wasting more money on if old. It won't be a case of jsut adding another wire but will be BMS related as another function for minor comm's.

Flecc is the chap with the Giant knowledge on here esp with those pannier hung types, they are pretty much obsolete today.

Thanks for that. Like I said I have a knowledge of DC circuitry what would need changing to put on a generic battery. Failing that I have found a site on the net in Holland that sells batteries for giant bikes but at the princely some of €400 for 24v 13a/h was actually hoping to spend less.

I'm afraid you are stuck with that David. Although I know the variable spec on this series of Giant bikes, I have no experience of the details. Their Sanyo designed front hub motor sometimes had regeneration with additional connections, other times not. Some earlier models used NiMh batteries, most though Lithium. Some models had twin pannier batteries, others a single battery, so working out which was which can be very difficult, if a number of elements are missing like the battery(s) and charger.

Like Nealh I don't think it's worth bothering with. They were never good performers, as one very experienced reviewer commented on the performance, "one could die of boredom".

I've got another question. Why would my battery have 3 connections yet only 2 at the controller. I've just stripped back the wiring loom found 2 negatives ( the 2 negatives are joined in the insulation)going to the battery, yet only 2 going to the controller.
