Is this correct? Does such a thing exist?

I'm currently running the 250w 36v legal version and wondered if this thing can be just bolted on. If so, would it have a higher rpm and/or higher torque? I've seen something similar on the pswpower site.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I have indeed. It's currently running at 18 amps but I darent go any higher incase I fry it.

I'm not long back from a failed tour in Wales and the motor struggled heavily loaded up a 20% climb. I was hoping a bit more torque can help there.

How much do you and your bike weigh? What's your battery capacity? I've managed steeper climbs than that - 36v 250w bbs01b 19.ah battery @15A while towing a heavy trailer. The combined weight of myself, bike, cargo and trailer was 174kg. It wasn't easy, and at the limit of my pedalling ability. Have you set "Keep current" for all PAS levels at 100% ? That works for me, even with my less than ideal for hills 52T>32T gearing.

You must be alot stronger than me then. Battery is 20ah.

The bike and I weigh maybe 90kg. Luggage was I'd guess around 40 or 50kg. Gearing is 40t front and 36t rear. Much lower than yours.

I got to the top of that climb and couldn't catch my breath for a good 5 minutes.

I'm not at all strong. I do wonder about whether I'll have a heart attack at the top. Could it be that it was your battery struggling to supply enough power? There is a lot of voltage sag on hills, even with my large capacity battery. It can't do many steep hills in succession, before the voltage sag causes the motor to make strange noises and cut out. Fortunately my heavy hauls are short, about 4.5 miles in total, with about a half mile of steep hill climb, followed by a very steep 250 yards or so of extremely steep climb, then a 1/4 mile of less of an incline - I can be confident of doing that twice with that weight. Haven't attempted a third, in case I end up with a nightmare scenario halfway up...

 

Longer rides while hauling weight are also a problem - 12 miles and a total combined weight of 161.1kg was hard work, and I avoided the 1 mile climb to my home, no way I could cope, never mind the motor. Also the battery was showing too much voltage sag for me to try.

Did your motor make strange noises and cease providing assistance on hills?

 

Maybe increase to 20a, if you are confident of your battery's ability to supply it? That was my plan when I started hauling heavy trailers, but so far it hasn't been necessary - having a spare controller handy is reassuring. What cells does your battery pack contain? Maybe one of the battery boffins can advise what your max continuous amps your battery is capable of providing.

No idea about voltage sag. If memory serves, the display showed it dropping to around 34v and it had already done a good 15 miles of hilly rocky rough trail.

No it was perfectly silent. No cutouts. I just know I was having to pedal like a madman to keep moving.

The only info I have on the battery is the advertised lingo from when I bought it.

Hailong G70 36v 20ah with a 35amp fuse.

I've read that the standard BBSO1B 250w can't handle more than 20amps so advised not to go over 18amp for safety.

I've almost no idea about electric current and how it's measured etc but I saw somewhere that my setup of 36v 18amp is 350w? Should I remove my head from my rear posterior?

As guerney mentions, set the 'Keep Current' to 100% on the PAS page of the software, if you haven't done so already.

Your wheel size would be useful to know.

 

On 700c, puny 40Nm motor and 38T front 36T rear and similar touring all up weight to you, I can manage only 12% gradient without struggle. And only at the beginning of the day!

 

If you want to do 20% I think you will need to go to an MTB type cassette with about 50T bottom gear. That's my plan.

I've set the keep current to 100% but I think I've adjusted something else too. Out with the doggy tonight and the bike was sluggish as anything. I'll look tomorrow. I'm knackered.

The pedal speed limit I've just reset to 40kmh. Probly pressed it by accident to display speed limit.

Is your bike sluggish with those settings on Level 8?

 

Presently with 85% on Level 8, you're using 15.3A - that may be a good thing, because we don't know if your battery can cope with supplying 18A continuously.

72,000 eRPM? Might that be just the thing to fine tune Bafang rpm pedal assist, for people who prefer a slower cadence? Trousers would catch fire through air friction pedalling at 72,000 rpm.

150kw 200bhp 10.000rpm top speed depends on the motor winding and motor core size but there all 3 phase motors that will work with any 3rd party controllers.

 

its getting it to do what you want via the controllers software as depends what you use pas or throttle sensor wise and some are better than others depending what you want.
