Looking to get a new ebike - ridgeback arcus 2?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I'm new to ebiking. My commute to work is around 3 miles and I'm considering a new ebike. My work had a cyclescheme but the limit is £2000 for a new bike.

The cycle scheme only allows bikes to be purchased from smaller shops and not the likes of halfords etc.

I visited my local shop and spoke to the chap about my needs. He recommended the ridgeback arcus 2 - https://www.ridgeback.co.uk/ridgeback-arcus-2-varrb21930

It is retailing at £2299.

I liked the look of the Raleigh Felix but only halfords stock this and I can't use them as my cycle scheme doesn't allow.

Any thoughts and opinions appreciated.

Thanks

Look at https://wooshbikes.co.uk/ if your scheme will accept them.

Very good value for money and excellent customer service.

For a short commute almost any ebike (or regular bike unless it's very hilly) will do. Your choice will depend partly on what else you want to do with it, and how fit you are.

Woosh have the Santana step through https://wooshbikes.co.uk/?santana3

and Camino, Gran-Camino and Faro crossbar bikes,

and Rambletta foler.

Any of those would be fine for the commute.

Hi there thanks for replying. I will have a look at them.

Does anyone have any opinion on the ridgeback linked above?

I ride a Ridgeback X2, through a subsidised scheme, which has Shimano bottom end E5000 with smallest 418Wh battery and low end Shimano componentry. It retails at £2699.

If I was spending my own money, I would want better spec for that price. There seem to be a few hundred £ for the name, which other makes might spend on a higher spec motor and bigger battery.

Given the cautionary tale linked above, I would look around a bit more, and if going mid-motor, stick to the known names.
