Effbike motor issues

Featured Replies

I am working on an Effbike where it is having drive problems. Lack of power to the hub motor. I have stripped the hub, replaced the clutch, and when testing with the cover off the drive seems to want to go into reverse. I am suspecting a short somewhere or a controller (build in) failure. controller is working normally. Any advise would be greatful.

Does the controller utilise learn wires ?

One can try swapping a pair of phase wires to see if C/W roataion returns, other wise one will have to go thru the 36 possible permutations if the motor is a sensored one.

Often three combos will work, just means a bit of time to see which is best.

I cannot get to the controller yet, the owner has locked the battery to the frame. This is a manufactured bike, not a conversion. It was brought to me to have some spokes replaced. when refitting the wheel there seemed to be little or no power to drive the hub. I have stripped the motor down and replaced the clutch thinking it might be that and on reassembly I did some tests. The motor works great out of the wheel, but goes in reverse. As soon as I put the motor into the wheel it will not turn it even though the motor spins and the gears are connected to the drive ring.

P>S thanks for the diagram, I will use that in the future, very helpful.
