Does anyone know where to get a replacement battery for a Smart E-Bike, or maybe someone who could re-cell and fit a normal charging socket? Thanks

the batt has a coms channel to talk to the motor and display and it is also encrypted so a recell will be near impossible.

Ok. I'll give them a shout tomorrow? Could a normal battery, perhaps mounted on a rack, be used?

no the motor and display will have to be changed but if you use the batt case you can then recell it and use as a normal bike.

 

they do this crap to force you to buy there rip off batts that you cant even buy as went bust doing this :mad:

You can try Torque-E-Cycles, but they seem to be very busy.

One option is to get the battery repaired with a normal cell-pack and BMS, then dismantle the motor and remove the controller, wire in a normal motor cable and run with an external controller. If it's like other Bionx motors, I'm pretty sure it splits down the middle, so needs to be de-spoked to get it apart. That's a lot of work, but means the battery will be repairable in the future. It also gives a lot more options for power and speed. It will be legal with whatever power you want as long as you keep the speed cut-off to 15.5 mph.
ill tell you now to recell that pack is going to cost £500+ so might be more cost effective to bin the lot and fit a new motor and display so bypass the controller.

RIGHT EVERYONE. THANK YOU ALL FOR THE INFORMATION. I WAS GOING TO BUY THIS WITH THE IDEA OF HAVING IT RECELLED TO GET IT OPERATIVE AGAIN. DOESN'T LOOK LIKE THIS CAN BE DONE EASILY? NOT ONLY IS THE BATTERY A BIT OF AN ISSUE THE REAR MOTOR ALSO AS INTEGRAL INBUILT GEARING SYSTEM. I'LL KEEP LOOKING FOR ANOTHER PROJECT. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR KIND HELP AND ADVICE.

Making keeping an older bike going so much harder to the point where most people will not bother.

 

You might think that is what the manufacturers want.

Yes. I just wanted something a little bit more unusual. Don't mind working on them but there as to be a limit? For a project I thought I'd try to get a Smart frame and add some standard wheels and all the electrical gubbins?

Has anyone built one of those Vruzend no-weld kits ?

The Smart frame is pretty bad. It's all too stiff and gives an exceptionally harsh ride.
