March 26Mar 26 Hi, just some info & feedback:The old site needed username + password to log in, the new site needs email address + password (not a problem, just something to be aware of as I needed to change my saved login details).I couldn't log in with my existing password so requested a password reset. The reset password email went to my spam folder (as mentioned upthread). On my laptop (Ubunto + Brave browser) I couldn't reply as I got "This site is insecure - click here to return to your emails". My mobile phone was happy to reset my password.Hope it all goes smoothly and any reported niggles are easily fixed 🤞 Edited March 27Mar 27 by Scorpio formatting

I found the previous inteface very easy to use and look at. I appreciate that sometimes change is necessary but from the user perspective, this new layout leaves me absolutely cold. However, dear administrators, I really do appreciate your efforts. Cheers, Bikes4two
March 27Mar 27 I prefer the usual username and password login. I only received a password reset email after my second request (I guess the forum software was busy doing something else then forgot), and the link it contained was blocked by Gmail, so I had to click a Gmail button to unblock the link. I could have forwarded the email to a less picky email provider, in order to access the pedelecs button link.1 hour ago, Bikes4two said:I had the exact same experience - currently not enjoying the new forum layout one little bit. Cheers, Bikes4twoThe forum software isn't free, I think it's here to stay until licensing comes up for renewal, unless @rsscott demands a refund. Personally, I would have transferred the old forum to this more reliable hosting instead. I would have considered using this new hosting myself, if their offerings weren't so stingy with storage. Some of the hosts this host bought were so stingy with CPU they didn't work - before one of those godawful hosts was bought by this new host, I got refunded for an entire year's hosting services, after threatening legal action. I'd have preferred the damned hosting I bought functioned as advertised. After screwing over his customers for years by providing crap services, the previous owner of the useless host bought a Ferrari with his "Winnings", sickening. Last I looked a couple of years ago, the ratings for this new host were pretty good. Personally, I'd deffo sue the previous host this forum was on, get refunded at the very least because it was awful and likely cost the forum custom. Nimbus hosting wasn't nimble. I hate those dudes. I'll look into the email side of things, there are still some changes to be made on that side of things.

Cheers, Bikes4twoIt's OK, we've done a few updates over the years somtimes to fanfare, sometimes not! This is still a work in progress though as with the previous site there was a lot of customisation and at the moment it's pretty much the standard install. Looking ahead we just want something that is easy to maintain and not get charged $200/hr for changes!

March 27Mar 27 In case an earlier post as Guest does get posted, I have now fixed the problem, "forgot password" (which I hadn't) email went to spam, recovered it and reset and can now login.🙄

The share option appears to have appeared just now, though it's hard for me to tell because this font is very light and not as easy to see and read with my damaged eyeballs as say "Arial Black" - is there a heavier variant of the same current (Nunito?) font? Yes those dots enabling the sharing of a link to a post help. Still, more convenient than linking to say "See why your bike exploded in post #n". In any case, not a dealbreaker this lack of #n on posts.This font is stylish, but a bit on the light insubstantial "barely there" side. Reminds me of an old saying: "When in doubt, use Helvetica". Reminds me of an old saying: "When in doubt, use Helvetica".I suggest the Chrome extension Stylus (or other similar). You can use that to override the stylesheets for individual websites or parts of them. I think there's a Firefox version as well?I used to use Stylebot but it stopped working for me). I find Stylus UI a bit confusing, but useful. (eg for overriding "barely there" text)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~@-moz-document url-prefix("https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/topic") { * {font-family: serif} * {color: black}}
March 27Mar 27 Struggling to see a way to match the old 'what's new' for an overview of all active threads. 'Unread content' is not really the same thing. Also finding screen space not as efficiently used. Too few items on a mobile screen, again the comparator is the results of tapping 'what's new' in the old system.Whereas before I would quickly see (sub 10 seconds) interesting stuff and places I could contribute or help, now I have to work harder than I would like to do the same.Likely to drift away.

The "What's New" view was my default. Unread items is not the same. Also the amount of screen space used by each post means only 1 or 2 is visible at a time.

I'm here to enjoy, learn, help others, and my aging brain no longer enjoys the admin effort of overcoming barriers to that.A black font would aid readability.

That stream should be made accessible via a big button or something marked "New Posts", on the homepage... Edited March 27Mar 27 by guerney

March 27Mar 27 I'm quite happy viewing "All Activity" - it's an easy bookmark. Not perfect, but then again what is?https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/discover/ Edited March 27Mar 27 by guerney
