April 21Apr 21 Just for interest. My front forks weren't working great so I decided to take apart and lube up.Oh dear...I think these are toast...I have a cheap set of buckloos forks I could use that cost £50.Maybe something better is recommended as I want some that will do the job and last, or just stick the cheap set on?Any thoughts. Thanks
April 21Apr 21 Get rigid forks, fat puncture proof tyres of some sort, and try handbar suspension instead? Here's a cheapo, I have no idea if it works or for how long. There are other cheapo types.https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007083286244.html@Nealh got a steal of a deal on AliExpress for a Reshift Shockstop:https://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/components-c9/stems-c76/redshift-shockstop-suspension-stem-30deg-p21973/s66650 Edited April 21Apr 21 by guerney

April 25Apr 25 Author Update.I've got a set of forks although steerer tube is about 10mm too long.Rather than cut I'm thinking about buying a packer as I already have a fork extender on because I like handlebars high.I'm thinking about that now. I think I know someone with a tube cutter I could borrow.Anyway, that's not my problem.I can't get the star nut to stay inside steerer tube?I have the kit to install it but it pulls straight out when I install forks. I bought a second star nut and that pulls out as well.I don't understand how it says in?Maybe if I rough up the smooth surface inside tube?Anyone had a similar problem? Thanks

You must have either the wrong size or you're putting it in upside-down. If all else fails, you can use a bit of 6mm threaded rod right through the steerer tube with a large washer and nut on the bottom, and a nut and spring washer on the top.
April 25Apr 25 Author Well they both slipped so I filled the petal edges of the star washer a bit sharper and sanded the inside of tube.Knocked it in again and it's worked. Result.Never fitted one before and like anything you puzzle a bit with how it all works. Edited April 25Apr 25 by Wayners
