Just got a cyclelife brochure through the door advertising lots of raleigh bikes including the Dover deluxe premium ..with schwalbe marathons as standard....£1799.99

so it looks like they will be ok for kalkhoff spares and servicing if required as ther are quite a few dotted around the country...

Is that more or less the same bike as the Agattu that 50 cycles sells for £1595? The marathon plus tyres are different I suppose.

The new agattu comes with the 8 speed nexus as does the Ralaigh - it has front suspension, twist grip gear change but the handlebars are the real give away that it is an agattu. mmmm love the Humpert Moon Comfort Cruiser handlebars!

its not the cost thats important,,if all the cyclelife shops sell and are trained and familiar with them that opens up 108 uk outlets where we can take kalfhoffs which they would be familiar with....great peace of mind.....:)
Agreed about the dealers - always a weak point when dealing with 50 cycles. Still it is disappointing to see the Agattu is more expensive when sold as the Raleigh Dover.

No, the Dover is the Pro Connect equivalent, so price ok.

 

The Agattu equivalent is the Raleigh Leicester.

 

The Tasman equivalent is the Raleigh Leicester de Luxe.

 

These were previously imported by Hilderthorpe Cycles in Yorkshire who priced the Raleighs a bit below the Kalkhoffs.

Not quite, this incarnation of the Raleigh Dover is the equivalent of the Agattu.

 

It has same sprung forks, nexus inter-8 hub, weight, sprung seatpost, handlebars.

Well the links I posted clearly show that the the Dover de Luxe Premium is the same bike (more or less) as the agattu but £200 more. Maybe they named it wrongly but that doesn't explain the price. Quite why they call the basic version de luxe premium is beyond me. Mind you I used to drive a Ford Anglia that was also called de luxe but far from it.

That model has the Pro Connect frame, hence the naming, it's not intended as an Agattu equivalent. These price disparities have always been there, the Pro Connect with rigid forks and seatpost didn't look good value at a very much higher price than the Agattu that had sprung forks and seatpost, especially after the Agattu gained the 8 speed hub.

 

As for the Raleigh and Kalkhoff names, it's just badge engineering, the Austin and Morris Mini thing all over again.

The pro-connect has the premium alfine while the agattu and this bike has the nexus. The standard pro-connect has never come with the suspension forks, those lovely comfort handlebars, suspension seat post etc. The spec and picture look like an agattu???

I was going by the frame jointing detail, the frames were different. Unfortunately Kalkhoff have discontinued the crossbar Agattus now it seems, so I can't show you those and the differences on their 2010 website.

 

They now make and list the 2010 bikes in a different way, Sport; meaning Pro Connects and Sahels, all with crossbars only, and Comfort; meaning Tasmans, Agattus and Jubilee, all the latter as step-through only now. Since this premium version has a crossbar, it must be a Pro Connect/Dover and not an Agattu. That's just their 2010 marketing, I can't explain it, it's just how it is.

It is these extras that make it a Premium bike, though a few pennies are probably saved on the hub ancillaries.

The Dover De Luxe Premium is an Agattu with a Raleigh badge and paintjob. There is no longer a Raleigh Leicester in the 2010 line-up.

Thanks for the extra information Tim, I was going by the Kalkhoff website which as reported doesn't show any

choice. The Raleigh site does show the variants so I'd seen those.

 

Derby Cycles are going to create no end of confusion with these model changes, combined with name changes

and website differences.

Possibly, but they leave it up to their national dealers to clarify things for their own customers, and to take or leave the models, frame sizes and options they choose.

 

So for British customers, at least, our website is the best guide to what will be generally available, though we are open to special orders for models we haven't ordered up front from Derby (including any of their marvellous non-electric models).

I agree. There's sometimes a conception that through shop is best, but that certainly isn't always true as you

showed with the prompt advice on Kalkhoff frame geometry in another thread. Imagine trying to get that

information from the average local cycle shop!

buying other manufacturers e-bikes.

thats why, subject to cyclelife shops knowing how to deal with them,people will be able to see the kalkhoff equivalent and know they will have local help if required.When i had a problem with the Agattu gears,the local shimano centres had never worked on one !!!

It has to be a good thing for 50c if their prices remain competative.

Great prices, even lower than the original Agattu introductory price well over two years ago!
