August 6, 201015 yr I have just invested in a Garmin Edge 500 which is one fantastic piece of kit. It will tell you everything you need to know about your ride. Apart from the usual time, average speed, max speed, distance etc you also get elevation gain and loss (thats a total of how much up and down you have done) max elevation and min, moving time and stopped time, split times (you set at what distance you want ie 1 mile 2 mile etc and it tells you at those distances everything quoted above atose intervals throughout tnhe ride).I have still to try the course where you go on a previous course and see how much better or worse that you are. The garmin connect features and graphs showing your rides are brilliant. I have now just ordered a heart monitor so i should now be able to tell if my heart as well as my battery will get me home !!! If you have the money, get one,you won't be disappointed.
September 27, 201015 yr Garmin forerunner 305 I went for the non cycle specific forerunner and I love it. I now have heart rate and cadence although fitting the cadence monitor was a pig on the flyer, I couldn't get it to measure speed at the same time. The are a couple of mounts for this that let you mount on the handlebars too. It seems to be cheap at the moment as they have brought out a replacement model.
